What did they do to get those rates in a 5850?
Here's a bench on the 5850 in dirt 2 at the highest settings:

Is that DX11? If so then WTF to the site that I posted. Well, I said myself source seemed sketchy.
On a side note, I'd also call tom's hardware somewhat sketchy. I've heard different things but basically they are inconsistent with their reviews. I don't know, that's just what I've heard. Personally I'm waiting for my favorite review site, Anandtech. Until then I just post what little new info I come across.

Good catch indeed. With rougly 70% scaling that puts the other source's bencies i posted in the green.

Ugh. Now I feel dumb. Original post is gone.
The 5970 makes it look small but we all know the GTX can easily grill two hamburgers.
Nvidia's initial batch of GeForce GTX 480/470-based graphics cards will have fewer cores than the originally expected 512 due to low 40nm yield at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to sources from graphics card makers.
Since TSMC's 40nm yield currently is still lower than 50%, Nvidia will block some of the graphics cores with problems on the card. As a result, the GeForce GTX 480 will only have 480 cores and GTX 470 only 448, the sources noted.
Hasn't that been known for a while?
i stopped keeping track of what nvidia was releasing after the 9xxx series came out, now all these weird new names confused the shit out of me :gonk:

Nop, don't confuse me though.

Yes, that article is the reason (maybe) for it.

By all means Fermi is a power hungry monster, but on a slightly less dark side, not as much as has been feared.
Geforce GTX 480 TDP at 250W
One thing is finally clear. The Geforce GTX 480 specification is locked at this time and Nvidia works hard to ship as many card for its planned launch on 26th US/ 27th Europe. We already told you that it might be all the way to April 6th before you are able to buy the card but today we have the whole specification.
As we said earlier, the card has 480 cores with fifteen out of sixteen clusters enabled while the chip itself is designed with full 512 cores/shaders. The most important clock is the shader clock that today works at 1401MHz while the GPU clock is at round 700MHz. The memory clock is a quite unusual 1848MHz and the card itself has a 384-bit memory interface and comes with 1536MB of memory.
Fermi's TDP stirred up quite a bit of speculation, but we finally have some exact numbers. The TDP is not close to 300W as many have suggested before, it's 250W. This is much higher than the 188W TDP of Radeon HD 5870, but as long as Fermi Gefroce GTX 480 runs stable, it should satisfy its proud owners. The GTX 470 will obviously have a slightly lower TDP, probably slightly higher than HD 5870's TDP.

Geforce GTX 470 has 215W TDP
Since the official launch of Fermi is on Friday US / late Friday night / Saturday morning in Europe, we are getting the last hidden details on the of slower of two Fermi cards.
Geforce GTX 470 has 448 cores, packs 1280MHz GDDR5 memory with a 320-bit memory interface clocked at 1674MHz has a TDP of 215W.
This is still much higher than Radeon HD 5870 TDP of 188W, or 170W TDP of Radeon HD 5850, but as long as it's faster, end users won't mind the TDP value. However, 215W is not a small value for slower of two cards and it will generate quite some heat, but with the help of Nvidia's new fan, temperature should be within the normal range.
Geforce GTX 470 shaders work at 1215MHz or twice as fast as 607MHz core clock and the performance of this card should be close to Radeon HD 5870 and definitely faster than HD 5850.
More box shots. Looks like ASUS will be supporting voltage tweaks on the 4xx cards.

Why would you ever voltage tweak a card that's already drawing 250 watts?
gimmicks
Why would you ever voltage tweak a card that's already drawing 250 watts?
Because it lets you open the taps and pump in more gigahertz.
The question is, how many gigahertz?
depends on how daring you are and if you live in the arctic circle.

Quite understanding actually.. cause the 5970 contain TWO 5870 gpu's in it...

If that's true than Nvidia really fucked up, and we're going to be looking at a period of consumer shafting and AMD monopoly prices.
Also the GTX480 doing worse than the GTX295? I sure as hell hope that's not true cause then Nvidia really really fucked up.
It can't be real. A GTX295 faster than GTX480 sure sounds dumb.
