lol [editline]04:45AM[/editline] im gona kill myself tell me when they are out
im sure sum1'll beat me to it BUT I TRY
26th and still nothing. Also how much is a 4 years old 8800GTX worth? It has worked flawlessly up till now, but it's 4 years now that I've been using it so I can imagine time has taken its toll on it. I'm still not even sure if I'm going to sell it, it all depends if I have enough money to buy a new GPU when the GTX4XX come out (be it an Nvidia or ATI).

Maybe it's just my choice of games, but I find that my HD4850, and my older 8800GT played pretty much everything I wanted to play. The jump from a 6800GT to an 8800GT was a huge difference for me, but I'm getting the feeling that at my current resolution with my current games, jumping to something past this level is kind of pointless.
Posting what games you play wouldn't hurt.
and resolution u game at
1920x1200, a variety of shit. A lot of Source games, Fallout 3, Prototype, HAWX, Far Cry 2, Supreme Commander, just off the top of my head. I can usually run all of these at maximum or near maximum settings with good frame rates. I've also run the Crysis demo, and while I obviously can't max it at the resolution I play, I can play with just about high settings on everything. It might be because I don't use Anti-aliasing due to my high resolution, but I generally find that my GPU can run nearly everything thrown at it.
same here with my 4770. maxes a majority of games on my 1920x1080 monitor. guess graphics cards are gaining usable life as time progresses
same here with my 4770. maxes a majority of games on my 1920x1080 monitor. guess graphics cards are gaining usable life as time progresses
I think it's because gaming graphics aren't advancing nearly as fast as GPU technology is. While each year we're having nearly 100% increase in performance, the best looking game is more or less still Crysis. Granted Metro 2033 came out recently and it seems like it eats up shit-tons of processing power, but we're really not seeing that many graphically ground breaking games these days. [editline]01:41PM[/editline] Maybe we'll have another one soon when all the next gen game engines come out. When UT4 comes out, or when Crytek finally releases a new from the ground up engine to replace CryEngine 2, or when Valve replaces Source, or when id Tech 5 comes out. I guess a big jump in graphics is guaranteed when the next-gen gaming consoles are out, but that's also in quite a while.
If valve replaces source but they keep their pattern, it won't be demanding.

Though it does require a shitload more power too.
It'll probably take few months until you even can get one
http://www.techspot.com/news/38297-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-480-and-470-specs-emerge.html
According to VR-Zone, internal benchmarks reveal that the GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 are some 5-10% faster than the Radeon HD 5850 and 5870 respectively. Such estimations are of course unofficial, but we'll have clearer idea of the value behind these cards when benchmarks start popping up after next week's launch.
http://www.muropaketti.com has a review ready, they are releasing it as soon as the NDA ends, which is in 5 hours and 20 minutes
you mean 1 week
Nope
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=4307947&postcount=1968 benchmarks!
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=4307947&postcount=1968 benchmarks!
Please tell me these aren't real
Please tell me these aren't real
Considering that the 5970 is dual-GPU (and costs 550£), that is pretty damn good considering it gives more than 10% performance increase. Yes BC2 doesn't show it, but if you consider that a single driver update improved performance on ATI cards as much as 20% for that game it's probable that something similar will happen with the GTX480. Not to mention new drivers will improve performance (which can make a big difference in FPS, up to 20% as said). [editline]09:19PM[/editline] Also seeing as there are some performance spikes (in some games the GTX480 beats even the 5970) it's probable that the drivers are crude at this point and the performance will increase with the new drivers (I doubt it'll surpass the 5970 though). It could be the other way around too, but considering that the GTX480 is the new card, not the 5XXX, it's more probable that it's the GTX480's performance that is being held back by the lack of decent drivers, performance and optimization.
I'm going with th 5870 since the 480 is over $450 unless the 470 is cheaper and better. I was planning on buying nvidia.. but that won't happen I guess.
