I'm thinking maybe those responsible for naming these cards might have a bit of A.D.D.
Seriously though, the naming does get confusing sometimes.
Offnote @ above post: Dude, you might wanna fix your double post. Have faith in the intarwebz, it do work. :downs:
at least it will push the HD5970 into my budget
They need to figure out the whole naming thing, then get working on competing with ATi
This new series looks like a real competitor!

I suggest you shoot yourself.
Uh no, it's not really. I already said it once and I'll say it again, they're transitioning the old cards into the new series to make it easier for people to choose the card they want. Do you want people trying to choose between a 9800 GT and a GT 310? No.
[editline]02:26PM[/editline]
I'm trying to sensibly defend NVIDIA and all that happens is I get bombarded with boxes and "lul fanboi" because quite apparently this entire section is pro ATI.
gg
If I was an average consumer I would go for the 9800GT, higher number = better
wonder what the 300 series are gona be...
I'd imagine the 200 series rebranded, but with more woodscrews.
why do people make fun of wood screws?

It'd suck if a parent decided to upgrade your ATI HD5870 with a "brand new" Radeon 9800.
I can't wait to see how these new cards match up the the ATI 5xxx's

ARE YOU READY? Check back here on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. PST for a major announcement!
what could this be? fermi benchmarks?
Hopefully it will be "the GTX 4XX models will be released next month", they have already shown some benchmarks (not of games though) and benchmarks made by first parties aren't really reliable.
cant wait if they are benchies

If this is an announcement for the rebirth of the GTX200 series as the new 300 series I'm gonna die...from laughter.
Nevertheless, I hope nvidia's return from being absent helps lower 58xx prices.
ATI is getting ready for fermi.
OC'd 5870 won't be enough
We learned that some of AMD loyal press (not us) got samples of a card codenamed Trillian.
Ever since the HD 5870 paper launch in Oakland, when we had a bit of an argument with ATI's PR chap, we never received any sample for them since we don't do what they want us to do. Well, that is called free press and I guess that we're willing to pay the price for it. We have lived through communism and censorship, and sorry, no matter how red you are or how hard you try, we're just not easy to impress or tame.
Anyway, Trillian is a tuned HD 5870 card with slightly higher performance. Last year AMD boosted HD 4870 specifications with the HD 4890 1GHz card, and this is exactly what we expect this time around.
We don’t know if AMD plans to use the HD 5890 brand, but we would not be surprised if they do but what we are quite sure is that Trillian won’t be enough.
The smart part of AMD knows that but they still have to play the game that Geforce GTX 480 is bad, evil and broken as they know that Nvidia should be able to challenge them, well once it finally launches Geforce GTX 480.
This actually isn't a bad thing, since they've already fucked up the 300 series with a few rebrands. Hopefully this will put an end to their clusterfuck of a naming scheme.
"We've bought AMD!"
Would be a bad move, hasn't AMD been in serious economic trouble for a lot of time now? Or has that changed?
This naming stuff is really getting stupid.
If I ever release a GPU series, it's gonna start at 1 and keep going from there.
Rad-Force 1.
They do it for the marketing and to make it so people who don't know much about video cards will get suckered into buying a "high number" card for "cheap" (even though the card really sucks).
then shortly after Intel buys NVIDIA, ATI, and AMD, creating a monopoly
ATI is getting ready for fermi.
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17720/1/
first off - it's fudzilla. Take it with a grain of salt, even if it is semi-true.
I'm not surprised, but fermi benchmarks aren't really out yet. What if the GTX 480 ends up preforming 1.5x better than a 5870? GPU clocks can't get a 1.5x increase in performance.
then shortly after Intel buys NVIDIA, ATI, and AMD, creating a monopoly
then Google buys everything ever making everything ever into a monopoly
i don't know it was a joke don't be so serious
I know it was a joke, I'm not taking it seriously, I was just wondering if AMD is still in a bad economic shape or not.
