Oh wow! My GTX 260's go to 80C when playing Stalker Clear Sky with Clear Sky Complete mod. Is there something wrong with them? Because they don't go above 75 when playing Far Cry 2 with all max. So those GTX 4xx don't get so hot after all.

My GTX went to 90 in some cases (rare, but still).
And I don't see why 80C under load is bad, if the GPU is made to withstand much higher temps.

QFT.
Well, since we got the 480s/470s all nice and discussed, let move on to the lower-end fermis and the 460.
I think, considering the benchmarks now the 460 will also edge out its ATI competitior.
I don't think NVIDIA was too concerned about the 5870, as if you all remember, the GTX 295 beat it sometimes. Yes, the 295 is much more expensive, but they still had a valid competitor. GTX 295 owners still had one of the fastest cards out there, even if they don't have DX11. (after all, that doesn't always matter, RIGHT? :downs:)
now that fermi is out, they still can't really compete with the 5850, since the 470 is (and can be quite a bit) faster than the 5850, and also 50 dollars more.
The low end (sort of?) cards will compete with the 5850 and such, with the 460 going @ 300 bucks (i think?). Knowing NVIDIA it should be as fast/slightly faster/slightly slower. NVIDIA always seems to pretty close to ATI. Look at the 4890 and the GTX 275. Only thing that isn't close is the price, and that is usually what is most important.
I don't have much to talk on about the 460 since there aren't benches out yet.
With any luck, it will be priced competitively enough with ATI to force a price drop. Hoping for a cheaper 5850/5830?
im sure everyone loves fermi wireframes

I like how everyone thinks ATi is perfect and will change their prices and generally bend over backwards to make them happy, when actually they've raised prices a few times and it wasn't long ago that it became possible to see the cards even in stock
my favorite quotes from him
This may or may not be true, some speculation, but it follows suit with Nvidia's business practices noted before. http://www.thinq.co.uk/news/2010/3/8/amd-game-devs-only-use-physx-for-the-cash/
yeah its a good idea to post something unrelated to fermi in a fermi thread, as well as being negative. If you're going to post something unrelated to fermi, you should at least post something positive. Thank you very much.
Get the 5770 the gts 250 can barely hold a candle to it.
whose every? and why would they think that? I just want more competition between both red and green, since GTX 480 went into a price bracket in between ATI's cards. Of course they both raise prices when they can, but since NVIDIA is the one releasing the card here I'm just following wishful thinking for ATI's response. But yeah, your right, that makes me a fanboy for wanting a card's price lower.

But the 470 is a better card and isnt flying over its MSRP.

mm well i think that actually has to do with the forms of Anti-Aliasing used.
Mirror's Edge, Gears of War, and Batman: Arkham Asylum all run on UE3, yes? They all have an option for anti-aliasing (if on nvidia anyway), yes?
What types of antialiasing can ATI do? MSAA
nVidia? MSAA and CSAA
What type of anti-aliasing runs like complete shit with UE3? MSAA
So what does UE3 prefer to use instead? CSAA
Does the engine know whether or not a card can do CSAA? Probably not, but it knows that it is in nVidia drivers and not in ATI drivers, so under ATI it'll be MSAA.
What AA do you get with ATI when you force AA? MSAA.
if i'm correct anyway i'm pretty balls tired

Wow, that's an oldish post.
But prefer is not "if it's not CSAA don't have any at all".
We have asked our "panel of independent judges" i.e. developers about this method to ensure objectivity of this article and in both cases our developers told us that the description above is a standard technique advocated to gamers by both AMD and nVidia. With the description above being explained to us as "standard", it turns out that the code that was labeled "MSAA Trademark NVIDIA Corporation" was identical to the one recommended by both sides with one very important difference: nVidia's code features a Vendor ID lock that allows for AA menu inside the game only if nVidia hardware is detected.
you don't get it though, MSAA on any card in UE3 pretty much quarters performance. they don't give an option because it runs so terrible, it's the best way to prevent people from freaking out and saying HEY WHY DOES MY GAME RUN SO BAD, I SET EVERYTHING TO MAX IN HALF LIFE 2 IT RUNS FINE I HAVE THE SAME SETTINGS AND WAM
you know
[editline]11:29PM[/editline]
what they use the vendor id for, in this scenario, is to prevent MSAA all around as, again, msaa runs like dick in ue3.
if you recall, geforce 8 and up can have AA in supportive ue3 games, even a 7950 GX2 can't. i think if it was really strictly business and entirely based on money, they'd allow at least that, but only the geforce 8 series and forward can/will do CSAA
[editline]11:30PM[/editline]
then again i'm not one of those people that expects the worst out of every corporation
so

yes I'm such a fanboy for being sick of people thinking that either ati or nvidia have to be better than the other instead of instead of comparing the GPUs themselves and seeing it as a single range or products

ATi has always gone the value/ good price for performance route. They initially raised the price for the 5850 & 5870 cuz of bad yields.

Hahahahhaha
ATI raised the price of the 5 series because of their 6 month monopoly of DX11 cards.
Quit idolizing both companies.

Did you even read my post? The code they added DID msaa on both nvidia and ati cards. It's just that if it detected ati, it didn't actually apply it.
Removing the check or changing the vendor id both enabled aa and increased performance (Beforehand it was doing the msaa process twice, once for the game once for catalyst, except it was only applying it once).
TL;DR they have msaa running on both cards, just actually using it on nvidia.

it's funny how people make fun of NVIDIA's re-branding and such.
When ATI does the same, they defend it.
So, on a more relevant note, I notice some small news about the upcoming dual fermi card: http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/18820/1/
