no 485/490/495 info? not even a rumor? :(
no 485/490/495 info? not even a rumor? :(
the 490 is confirmed to be two GF 104/102 (?) chips on one board. as for the 485 and the 495 there is nothing solid at the moment.
I think I should have waited for the GTX 465 instead, because it would have save me some money, and I can't use up the raw processing power of the GTX 470
I think I should have waited for the GTX 465 instead, because it would have save me some money, and I can't use up the raw processing power of the GTX 470
Wait a bit and more DX11 games will come your way. I dont expect the 465 to be a tesselation monster like its bigger siblings, so you made a good choice by going with the 470.
http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/faith/end-of-the-road-for-gtx470/ If that article is correct, they are stopping orders for 470's and are going to break PCI-E spec with the dual gpu card.
It was proven false a while ago
There will be no GTX 485, 490, or any card in the 400 series that is higher than the 480
http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/faith/end-of-the-road-for-gtx470/ If that article is correct, they are stopping orders for 470's and are going to break PCI-E spec with the dual gpu card.
Who cares about PCI-E spec I mean really. They need to update it so cards aren't held back (like the 5970), or make it so manufacturers just have to put a warning or something that the card is out of bounds. This will make it so tech savvy people can buy top of the line cards that are running to their potential, and the ignorant people will be safe from purchasing something they otherwise couldn't use.
People say PCI-E 3.0 will never be used.. SATA 3.0 will never be used... well well what is happening. Oh right you won't need more than a gig of ram you won't need more than two you won't need more than 4 does it ever end? It's always good to have room for the future.

haha
i'm confused what about that kitguru article has anything to do with pci-e not challenging it just not seeing where it's at all mentioned maybe i'm blind
just noticed that. why'd he bring it up?
Will there be any aftermarket coolers/fans/heatsinks for the Fermi cards? I know theres alot of debate about the effects of hot cards, how hot they get, etc, but I just want some sort of comfort in the future.
what debate, it always ends in "you're dumb, stop posting" for a reason and probably, but it's not really necessary unless you're overclocking.
just noticed that. why'd he bring it up?
all it has that has any relativity to PCI-E would be the power thing, which for the last 2 or 3 years hasn't really been any big issue at all thanks to 6/8-pin PSU connectors. i mean if it needed so much power who gives a shit it'll still be PCI-E 1.0/2.0, they'll just throw on five 8-pin connections whatever [editline]08:08PM[/editline]
Will there be any aftermarket coolers/fans/heatsinks for the Fermi cards? Well the "debate" goes something like: Person 1: I think the GTX 470 would be good for my case. Person 2: But your house will burn down and your bill will go up a few thousand dollars. Its hardly a debate, but its enough to keep the current issues and logic at bay. Also, according to a few benchmarks, the GTX470 is less efficient than the 5870. This is true, but it looks like the gap in efficiency is little. Ill see if I can find the graphs on it.
that's a dumb old joke. It's not a debate at all.
that's not a debate at all it's just a stupid old as fuck joke. it's not a current issue either unless for a case you use a wooden box with no ventilation
Even then it wouldn't burn. Flash point for wood is >200 degrees Celsius. Not even an idiot would make his computer go that hot.
i mean if it needed so much power who gives a shit it'll still be PCI-E 1.0/2.0, they'll just throw on five 8-pin connections whatever
If it uses over 300 watts, it can't be certified for it. So no.
If it uses over 300 watts, it can't be certified for it. So no.
Then they can make a separate certification, since you need to be told how much power your PCI E card can use.
Then they can make a separate certification, since you need to be told how much power your PCI E card can use.
Yeah sure they can, they just can't sell it as PCI-E.
is it worth (performance wise) upgrading from a GT 280 to a GTX 480? I really want to, but it just doesn't feel right to do that when i still run newer games on highest settings...
is it worth (performance wise) upgrading from a GT 280 to a GTX 480? Though I don't know what res you play at and what games you play, so we can't say for sure. You shouldn't be hurting too much unless you're playing the newest games at 2560x1600. I have an 9800 GT and it's not even worth it for me just quite yet, though my unending urge to upgrade is really stressing me out because I do currently have enough money to upgrade everything minus case, hdds, and dvd drive. If you must know, I plan to upgrade around my birthday in July.
Well, it appears the the GTX 465 is a piece of crap. It performs about the same as a GTX 275. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/geforce-gtx-465.html This card was supposed to compete with the 5850? Hah, the thing is slower then the 5830 and yet costs more and at the same time draws more power. Though drivers might increase its performance right now it looks like a failure.
you gotta be going at like 1440x900 or something because i have a 9800gt and can't wait to upgrade
1680x1050 actually. I can still play most newer games on high. I tend to tolerate lower framerates than most might, but its not bad at all yet. I could probably keep everything in to 2011 if I really wanted to, but that probably wont happen. However, if I had a GTX 280, that would be different story.
well i have everything maxed out maybe that's part of it
