Wait, didn't the 465 underperform in many cases compaired to the 5830? Why would the 460 perform better?
Wait, didn't the 465 underperform in many cases compaired to the 5830? Why would the 460 perform better?
Some architectural changes to make the 460 more gaming oriented and such. Also far higher clocks because it's a new chip and not some huge cut down one.
Wow read over the benchmarks. $200-$220 and it tends to beat the 5830 in performance in many situations, and the 5850 in a couple as well. That's pretty much exactly what I've been looking to upgrade to video card price/performance wise. While also beating the 465 in performance too!
I'm seriously considering replacing my ageing 4870 for one of these. I know it won't be hugely faster but it'll be much quieter, cooler and more power efficient. Plus the small size and PhysX support is a bonus. Reckon it's a good idea or should I wait for a price drop on the higher end cards?
I would think the 4870 would decently underperform compaired to a 460 If i get a 460 I'll be upgrading from a 9600GT, which has done an admirable job so far I think in the past two years in the department of playing games well
there is nothing wrong with the high end cards, they aren't that loud, and if the 1 buck extra on your power bill matters, then ______ _____ ____
So, I've been looking at 460GTX benchmarks, and personally I'm impressed- I've always considered ATI Technologies to be far superior to Nvidia cards when taking bang-per-buck into consideration. Anyway, this Benchmark extremely impressed me, and I promise to write more when I get home. All things considered, you can't see above 60 fps anyway. While the 5970 will outperform on more GPU-intensive games, anything above 60 is just overkill.

Yeah, I mean, if the size of your video card and Phys X are really worth $200 to you, then ok, but is the 4870 really having problems with your games?
New drivers are out! http://blogs.nvidia.com/ntersect/2010/07/release-256-drivers-are-back-with-even-more-goodness.html [img_thumb]http://blogs.nvidia.com/.a/6a00d834515fca69e20133f22e98ff970b-pi[/img_thumb] I'm not late, am I?
God, before I wanted to take the Radeon HD 4890, and now the GTX 460 is more interesting for me (though a little more expensive). I think I will go with this new card by Nvidia. It's clearly worth it. Just a question: This card use only one PCI-Express 2.0 slot?

Don't know well about that, but my motherboard is an MSI P45T-C51 (Socket 775). It's not a problem, is it?

My motherboard has these specs: PCI-Express 16x slots: 1 PCI-Express version: 2.0 PCI-Express 1x slots: 2 PCI slots: 3 It's okay for an GTX 460?

Thanks. I was worried about the fact I buy something not compatible.
Good job nvidia only 8 months to late. At least they got one decent fermi card now :)
Good job nvidia only 8 months to late. At least they got one decent fermi card now :)
Wha- Oh fuck it, why do I even bother.

I've seen some benchmarks about the GTX 460 and wow. The GTX 460 1GB (OC at 800/1600 Mhz) managed to beat the GTX 470 and 5870 3/4 of the time. For about 250 €/$, you have the performance of a 350-400 €/$ graphic card.
Wow okay the 460 seems like a beast when it's OC'd.
Best performance/price right there Nvidia, sure, did a good job
Nice, nVidia finally remembered to cater to the mid range/ high-end fence sitters. The 460 looks like a very nice card, and if the UK price isn't stupid I may consider one (they will work on a 500W PSU just fine right? :ohdear:)
I remember I bought my 8800gt because it kept up with the higher priced card when Oc'd. I think I may do the same thing again and pick up a 460.
(they will work on a 500W PSU just fine right? :ohdear:)
Except just ~150W for an single 460 so I think a 500W PSU is clearly fine. [editline]09:44PM[/editline] A friend of mine uses 280-300W for a Phenom II X4 955/5870 for his PC, by example.

I bought a fairly overkill PSU for my system, so I'm going to salvage it to save some money.
and the GTX 460's power usage is around the 5850 to boot.
And, surprisingly, runs cooler. Lets see what charlie has to say about this
