I'm gonna buy one a 460, they are very powerful for the price and in some cases perform as well as the gtx 470.
And, surprisingly, runs cooler. Lets see what charlie has to say about this
nVidia stole ATI's chipsets obviously.
nVidia stole ATI's chipsets obviously.
Amazingly he didnt say that. He went into profit margins, die yields and what not, that man is a sore fanboy.
God dammit, does EVGA not make the 1GB version of the GTX 460? I can't find the 1GB version anywhere, it's sold out, damn.
not yet, no. wait a few weeks, right now only Palit does. someone told me Zotac is the way to go, though. cheaper, longest warranty [editline]11:56PM[/editline] i mean now that EVGA doesn't have the lifetime warranty anymore, there's not really any real reason to get them instead aside for the brand name
someone told me Zotac is the way to go, though. cheaper, longest warranty
not at the moment at least, seen bad things in reviews of their 460s http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_460_1_GB/35.html
ZOTAC however has failed on their implementation of fan control: in both idle and load the card is very noisy. It seems that this is a bug or oversight because other GTX 460 cards deliver almost whisper quiet noise levels.
Fuck yeah, just bought a 460 for $200 CAD. Not bad. Hopefully the price will go up due to supply and demand, and I'll sell this.

When the GTX 460's first went on sale they were the cheapest 1GB versions I saw.
Is "GIGABYTE" any good? When the GTX 460's first went on sale they were the cheapest 1GB versions I saw.
If you've got the money just get the MSI Cyclone 1Gb, its the best of the bunch.
i mean now that EVGA doesn't have the lifetime warranty anymore, there's not really any real reason to get them instead aside for the brand name
EVGA still uses its lifetime warranty, though, its only for more expensive products. (I just got a gtx 480 a few weeks ago with the lifetime warranty). I'm not sure about other companies, but EVGA allows you to use aftermarket cooling and overclocking without voiding the warranty (as long as you don't damage the card installing it). That's why I use them.
Just looked at the prices eBuyer have for the 460, not bad at all £150 for the cheapest, which is a ZOTAC mind you. Another £15 gets you a MSI one.
i mean now that EVGA doesn't have the lifetime warranty anymore, there's not really any real reason to get them instead aside for the brand name
What are you talking about? EVGA clearly still has a lifetime warranty. The only thing is not all of their 460s have the lifetime warranty.
The EVGA limited lifetime warranty is only eligible for part numbers ending in: -A1, -A2, -A3, -A4, -AR, -AX, -CR, -CX, -DX, -FR, -FX, -SG, -SX. (with product registration 30 days from purchase)
01G-P3-1373-AR, 01G-P3-1371-AR, 768-P3-1362-AR are all GTX 460 part numbers on EVGA's site. They should have the lifetime warranty on all their GPUs, but I guess people will just have to be careful what EVGA product they buy. Its not that hard to check part number.
Rumor has is 6000 series is coming out in a few months.
Rumor has is 6000 series is coming out in a few months. Not in 5 months Besides last ATI card I had was a 1950, which was allright but I kept getting microstutter issues with it which made it always feel like it was performing worse than my older 7300gt. Doesn't help that I keep hearing similar microstutter issues happening with the latest ATI drivers in certain circumstances, games, or programs.
Was just a comment guys, no need to get pissy. On a semi-unrelated note: For whatever reason I didn't notice that there are no 512mb 400 cards.
It's kind of like...going back in the technological time-line to do that. These days, larger resolutions are becoming the most common.
That is not micro-stuttering. It has nothing to do with a driver issue or a fault in the video card. It's a manifestation of irregular delays between frames rendered in multiple GPU configurations. It's the Delta in latencies between each rendered frames due to there being 2 or more GPUs. It affects both SLI and Crossfire. Many users reporting problems with their cards is because there are 20x more Cypress/Evergreen card owners than Fermi card owners, obviously because Evergreen was released 6 months beforehand. So yeah, there's going to be less people with problems regarding their Fermi cards because of this. It's just a simple perception thing that is generally misunderstood, that's all. From my personal experience I have not had problems with my 5870 and any drivers whatsoever, and I've had it since January. I occasionally get stuttering/jerking in a few games but there is evidence supporting it's to do with 2d/low3d/high3d clocks switching back and forth. I've done these tests myself as well, by the way. It happens on Nvidia cards too just as often. In fact, most cards made from DX10 onward do. I had it on my 4850, and on my uncles GTX260. Most of the time it's not noticed by the average user but for people like me who notice everything it can get quite annoying. It doesn't really affect gameplay that much, just when a camera is panning like in 3dmark vantage. Just search "stuttering" in google and enter your desired video card in front of that, you get results for pretty much every card out there currently. There's been some saying it's having to do with the video card memory being overloaded and bottlenecking the rest of the card but I really haven't found a lot else regarding that. I have searched about this issue for a long time now and can never really crack down on what exactly it is. I think it is a number of things, actually.
Well I was considering getting a 5830 before the 460gtx was announced. The 460 though was pretty much exactly what I was looking for in a video card so it worked. I only had one 1950 though by the way

5830 wasn't exactly a bad card, the 460 was just the first card in the family that was a viable buy for performance/$ for a change. AMD announced price drops on this card already to increase the value, but there's not much else they can do other than that. Can't really blame them for lack of competition in the past few months, prices go down, consumers are the ones who win in the end. The world does not stop spinning, they just had it so good for the past 8 months they didn't need to drop the MSRPs until now. Besides, they can't control what the retailers are charging, there's a supply chain between them and the consumer who buys it.
Which GTX 460 should I get, I'm looking at the ones that come with Just Cause 2.
don't buy a $250 item just because it comes bundled with a game that's dumb
