no it won't affect performance at all
Just got my GTX 480, aww yeah!
I used to have an ATI graphics card, but then, when I bought a new gaming rig, I tried the GTX285, it was awesome. I used to hate Nvidia before as well, but I realise I was acting like a faggot, because Nvidia has awesome cards as well. Now I got a new graphics card, I decided to stick with Nvidia, got the GTX470.. But that doesn't mean I hate ATI now.. It just means I like both, both are good.. I could return to ATI any day, but also could stay with Nvidia any day.. If I had 2 Gaming Rigs, one would be ATI and the other Nvidia.
I'm just curious here a bit. It's about a laptop card. How powerful would a GTX 480M and a Mobility Radeon HD5870 actually be?
Not sure if it is a good idea for a laptop [editline]06:29PM[/editline] The two of them must heat like hell
I'm just curious here a bit. It's about a laptop card. Hey look at that, they got the benches out for those two cards finally (just not with dual cards, but those are probably only in some crazy alienware) http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
Just thinking of the price of an Alienware with two GTX480m's in SLI scares me. :ohdear:
Just thinking of the price of an Alienware with two GTX480m's in SLI scares me. :ohdear:
So does the HD 5870 CrossFire. But I think the price will go more to the processor. If you add SLI or Crossfire,it will be an extra $375 whereas changing to the most powerful processor will cost a grand. I did a small customization to check the price. I manage to bring the price down to 2.9k but still it's very pricey. Might as well get an ASUS G73 which is 50% cheaper(1.4k) which is on offer now. These are the specs I customize for that darn Alienware for 2.9k.Terrible specs for such a high price. i7-620 Win-7 H.P 64-bit 5870 CrossfireX 17-inch 1920x1200 4 GB RAM 1.2 TB raid performance HDD Blu-Ray Optical disk Wireless cards ASUS G73 would be a perfect laptop if it had another GPU. I know that G73 has a huge ventilation behind it so handling 2 5870 wouldn't be a problem IMO.If that ever happens of course.
Got my 460 today, i plugged her in and upon starting up... still got the same problem. So turns out there was nothing wrong with my old graphics card, it was the PCI slot on my motherboard. I now have the 460 in the other PCI x8 slot. Will this effect performance very much, a x16 card in a x8 slot? I'll be getting a new motherboard, which means i'll need a new CPU and RAM. Aaah it never ends.
Depends on your res, and what kind of games you're playing. Source games don't gain any benefit from running in x16 unless your res is huge.
For 1.4k i can build a kickass desktop with a 460 [sp]IN SLI[/sp]
or a 470 or 5850.it's quite possible :)
Can anyone explain the difference between these two cards? http://eu.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=01G-P3-1465-ER&family=GeForce%20400%20Series%20Family&uc=EUR http://eu.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=01G-P3-1465-ET&family=GeForce%20400%20Series%20Family&uc=EUR
There is nothing different between them, at least according to the specsheets :psylon:
don't buy a 465
465 is for ignorants.

I bought a GTX 460 the other day. Kinda disappointed seeing as I had a GTX 260 before. Least now I can play supersonic sled. :colbert:
I bought a GTX 460 the other day. Kinda disappointed seeing as I had a GTX 260 before. Least now I can play supersonic sled. :colbert:
how could you be disappointed going from a 260 to a 460?

Oh no I was too busy setting a new record in Supersonic Sled". Then watch them trying to download and play it on an integrated.
no they're the same http://www.evga.com/articles/00471/cryostasisparts.asp
Not with Precision they aren't.
I forget the difference between XT and XR cards are but it seemed really trite.
how could you be disappointed going from a 260 to a 460?
Because there was nothing wrong with my 260.
Because there was nothing wrong with my 260.
if there was nothing wrong then why did you upgrade
Because there was nothing wrong with my 260.
Great reasoning on your part, then. They do say that hindsight is always 20/20 but I didn't think your foresight would be so shitty.
Hey I would like to ask a small question. If I were to upgrade my current 9800GTX+ to a GTX 480, would I still be able to use it without limiting (bottlenecking) its full performance potential? Even at 1920x1080 native resolutions? These 2 things that are currently in my computer come strongly into mind about this: Processor: Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.6GHZ RAM: 4GB DDR2 800MHZ Everything else I have is fine and I know will be fully functional alongside the card.
if there was nothing wrong then why did you upgrade
I had the money in the bank and had an itch to upgrade. I did upgrade a few months ago from a c2d to an 15 750 so now id say it was all upgraded.
Not with Precision they aren't.
what, all EVGA cards come with the option to download Precision.

Another possibility may be the oldness of the processor, but it's obviously overclocked so that probably won't be a problem.
