I just have a doubt, not about performance, but mostly about the noise. My card will be noisy at idle and load ? (in my Fractal Design Define R2)
[editline]12:04AM[/editline]
Sorry if I should know that but it's really my first real card I bought.
[QUOTE=FunnyGamer;24597945]Processor bottleneck?[/QUOTE]
no, that's about right. My GTX 260 was pulling the same framerate and it's basically the same card as the 4870

460s run cool and so they have quiet coolers
the only particularly noisy cooler I know of is the EVGA external exhaust
PNY only has 460s with the stock cooler so you should be fine
The 460 is the same noise as my 4870 according to anandtech, and my 4870 is JUST barely audible. I wouldn't worry about noise too much.

yeah EVGA makes external exhaust cards and it makes me mad because it takes up a slot just to blow air (albeit outside the case instead of inside but it lets the noise out). :frown:

all the 460s are double slot cards
the problem with the EE is it uses a noisy as fuck fan, and I really can't imagine you're getting good airflow when the only way the air can move is through the tiny holes in one expansion slot, at least compared to something like the MSI cyclone
if you're buying a card as expensive as even the 460 you're not going to be putting it inside a sealed box, it'll be in a case with at least decent airflow and it's not like the little bit of extra heat is going to cause CPU temps to skyrocket, so I really don't see the point of the EE
So what's the difference between the "EE" cards and non "EE" cards. Both exhaust air.

I guess one is designed to (try to) push the air outside of your case instead of inside.
also would a 480 SLI setup work on [url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182186]this?[/url]

No
:frown:
the amperage after I get the actual wattage (factoring in efficiency) is just below the exact amount two 480s requires, which is probably slightly underestimated anyway. And you've got 4 rails at 18A a piece which could possibly be spread unevenly for the PCI power cables

No but I see both EE and non EE cards having an exhaust outside the case.
[QUOTE=Brt5470;24603120]So what's the difference between the "EE" cards and non "EE" cards. Both exhaust air.[/QUOTE]
EE only blows out the expansion card bracket and uses a blower fan
reference cooler blows out both the bracket and the opposite side and uses a normal fan
EE runs hotter and louder than the reference cooler, all to drop case temps by a handful of degrees

i have two of those, and they're quieter than the single 9800gt i had before
don't worry about it bro
[editline]11:17PM[/editline]
also don't get the EE card
the fan is shit, noisier, and doesn't really make the card any cooler, it has a better chance at making it warmer if you don't have a front in-take fan in your case

all fermi cards are dual slot...?
[QUOTE=reapaninja;24602988]all the 460s are double slot cards[/QUOTE]
My MSI P45T-C51 motherboard have these:
1x PCI-Ex16
PCI-E Gen Gen2 (1x16)
2x PCI-Ex1
3x PCI
It's enough for the GTX 460 ?

You just need the PCI-E 2.0 slot, as long as you don't have anything blocking it, or the slot directly next to it on your motherboard, you'll be fine.
by slot they mostly mean in the case. it'll only use one slot on the motherboard, it's just that if there's another slot right next to/below the PCI-E x16 slot, you won't be able to use it
I'm excited about buying one soon. Once my amazon gift card comes in.
GTX 460 prices just got lowered 20$

I mean it takes up 2 of these slots in the back of the case
[img_thumb]http://lian-li.com/v2/tw/product/upload/image/X500/x500t10.jpg[/img_thumb]
the card itself only takes up 1 PCI-E x16 slot, but it will cover the slot below it so you won't be able to install anything there

So basically I probably can't push enough amps?
I think he means it's too close to your max wattage to be safe.

yeah
MFB, all 460? And where do you see the drop?
newegg
The most drop I see is 20 bucks on the Palit, the others are like $10.
470s dropped a little bit too.
the EVGA one i got, the first superclocked one (second most expensive nonEE) dropped :10bux:
[editline]09:33PM[/editline]
from $229.99 to $219.99
[editline]09:33PM[/editline]
it's funny - everytime i buy computer shit it drops a few days after i get it.
same thing happened with the i7-920 (except i got that on sale at microcenter and it dropped to an even better sale)

i7-930 at $200 FTW
even that's not really that exciting
i got my 920 in march or whenever for $229
