there was one game that gave a 110 percent boost, too.
Thats not possible...
Thats not possible...
Why not?
Why not?
Because SLi/crossfire doesnt work that way.
Doesnt matter what the app says it scales to, fact is in a real life situation cards are never going to scale past 80-90% at most
[editline]10:49PM[/editline]
Unless he can back it up with evidence hes an idiot
Thats not possible...
It most certainly is. If the game is written in a way that's optimized for performance in SLi setups, it's completely possible than 2 cards might outperform a single card by 110%. It's all in how the code is written.

Evidence or it didnt happen
ill look for it, but i am not sure if was an article about a card, a game (scaling in the game) or a driver update. so it'll be hard to find. i am positive it is true though
Hrm. I wonder if there's a possibility that Nvidia might release a non-shit low-profile card with this generation of GPUs.
There’s good news and bad news; the bad news is that the GTX 400 series has been pushed back to April 6th. The good news is that it’s only in reference to retail supply and not the actual NDA; so come the 26th of March we’ll all know what performance will be.
Hey, maybe at this rate we'll get a package deal bundling a 400 series card and Ep3.

looks like another FX5000 series
Geforce GTX 480 aims for €450 price
Shops might go higher
It is quite natural that the most famous and yet delayed chip called Fermi won’t be cheap but it turns out that it won't be that expensive either.
People have expected single GPU Geforce GTX 480 to end up at close to $600 or €600 in Europe after tax but it turns out that the amount Nvidia wants for its new high end card should be closer to €450.
Note that high demand might easily make shops push this price even further but Nvidia's suggested retail price should end up around €450 including VAT. Higher prices will be reserved for some dual card that is supposed to come in the next few months.
Since most available Radeon 5870 cards are selling at €375 and higher, we believe that Nvidia's price is quite OK, and some partners have told us that Nvidia might have plenty of cards to launch on the 27th.

Geforce GTX 470 to cost €349
£299 in the UK
We managed to get some additional prices of upcoming Fermi-based cards and the slower of two will sell for €349 or £299 in the UK market.
The plan is to attack the Radeon HD 5870, which is currently selling at roughly the same or a very similar price, as Geforce GTX 470 should end up at least slightly faster in most benchmarks.
We would not be surprised to see ATI dropping Radeon HD 5870 price further down, but this is yet to happen. Bear in mind that ATI increased HD 5850 prices a few weeks following the launch, so it clearly has some room to tweak the prices.
Of course, these are Nvidia’s recommended prices and they include taxes, distributor, partner costs and the shop’s part of the financial cake. However, as we warned you yesterday, the shops might increase the price if they feel like that the product will see huge demand and if it sells great.
This is the price to hope for on launch day, March 27th in Europe and March 26th in the US, but only if Nvidia sticks to what it said in its announcement.
Eeeeeeek I may be able to upgrade to a GTX 470. About time we get some word on price. I've been going nuts over this.
fudzilla.. fudzilla.. fudzilla. take it with a grain of salt.
I wouldn't be suprised if that's the price, but just sayin. They're as credible as SA. not including when charlie worked @ FUD.

VAT included? That is not bad, not bad at all. In fact that is awesome.
If it's true, which I do doubt a little, the whole Fermi thing always sounded (and was presented like) very expensive.
Hopefully I'll be able to trade up my new gts 260.
[editline]11:46AM[/editline]
The shit that's rebranded, do they then support dx11 or total rebrand with no changes?

Cards with Fermi are not re-branded, it's a completely new card.
a new GPU and a new architecture

Because they can so easily rebrand a DX10 card as a DX11 card with tessellation and a whole new architecture. :downs:
Website VR-Zone claims to have received what are supposedly the final specifications for the upcoming Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 GPUs.
The site lists the following information:
GeForce GTX 480 : 512 SP, 384-bit, 295W TDP, US$499
GeForce GTX 470 : 448 SP, 320-bit, 225W TDP, US$349
Internal benchmarks reveal that GeForce GTX 470 is some 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850 and similiar [sic] for GeForce GTX 480 over the Radeon HD 5870.
i was about to post that
[editline]03:00AM[/editline]
I do expect fermi will do better in DX11 though
is there even a significant difference between the 5870 and 5850?
[editline]11:31PM[/editline]
and how does it compare to the 5970? it'd really make more sense to compare to that
they said 10-15 percent you do the math
and in dx11 it does better with tessellation and stuff..
to the 5970, uh it's a bit more than half the 5970s performance.. do the math....
i'd love to do the math but you see math is a science of numbers, and if i had numbers i could perhaps conduct this science you formally referred to as "the math"
We're only a week away from their grand unveiling, but already we've got word of the specs for NVIDIA's high end GTX 480 and GTX 470 cards. Priced at $499, the 480 will offer 480 shader processors, a 384-bit interface to 1.5GB of onboard GDDR5 RAM, and clock speeds of 700MHz, 1,401MHz, and 1,848MHz for the core, shaders and memory, respectively. The 470 makes do with 446 SPs, slower clocks, and a 320-bit memory interface, but it's also priced at a more sensible $349. The TDPs of these cards are pretty spectacular too, with 225W for the junior model and 295W for the full-fat card. Sourced by VR Zone, these numbers are still unofficial, but they do look to mesh well with what we already know of the hardware, including a purported 5-10 percent benchmarking advantage for the GTX 480 over ATI's HD 5870. Whether the price and power premium is worth it will be up to you and the inevitable slew of reviews to decide.

We have received the final specs for GeForce GTX 480 and 470 which are slated for official launch on March 26th 7pm US time. Coincidentally, an official photo of the GTX 480 has been leaked in our forums here : http://forums.vr-zone.com/news-around-the-web/586418-finally-official-picture-geforce-gtx-480-a.html
GeForce GTX 480 : 480 SP, 700/1401/1848MHz core/shader/mem, 384-bit, 1536MB, 250W TDP, US$499
GeForce GTX 470 : 448 SP, 607/1215/1674MHz core/shader/mem, 320-bit, 1280MB, 225W TDP, US$349
* The intended GF100 has 512 SP clocked at 725/1450/1050MHz with 295W TDP. It should still be released in the future but just not now. For this launch, GTX 480 has 480 SP with clocks lowered to 700/1401/1848MHz at 250W TDP.
Internal benchmarks reveal that GeForce GTX 470 is some 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850 and similiar for GeForce GTX 480 over the Radeon HD 5870. Interestingly, the TDP of GeForce GTX 480 is almost similar to Radeon HD 5970 which is a dual GPU card. Interestingly, our sources revealed that there are indeed plans for dual Fermi cards and the TDP of the card is probably gonna be mind blowing.
295W... a 57% higher TDP seems a little much for only a 10% benchmarking advantage.

If i was to buy this I'd have to upgrade my motherboard, CPU and probably power supply. So I'll give it a miss for now.
295W... a 57% higher TDP seems a little much for only a 10% benchmarking advantage.
does TDP even matter when most people have enough amps for fully overclocked 5970 crossfire?
answer: no
