Way more useful than 8's
Still not going to take off till they drop metro.
Still not going to take off till they drop metro.
guess you're going to be on W7 for a long, long time
Damn sexy.
Still not going to take off till they drop metro.
Looks like you'll be on 7 for quite some time then. Had a look through the msstyles and the completely removed the old start menu resources. They're still there in 8, but no longer in blue.
Does Win8 or Blue has text-to-speech build in like Win7 and XP?

Maybe they'll throw in an added bonus and replace the old icons as well?
Still not going to take off till they drop metro.
Or until people bother to get used to it. Give it a couple of weeks and the start menu or start8 seems like a joke in comparison. The metro home screen is like the best of both worlds between desktop shortcuts abuse and a start menu.

It would be pretty stupid if it didn't. And the icon is apparently the same as in XP as well.
Maybe they'll throw in an added bonus and replace the old icons as well?
I don't know why they didn't for 8. Microsoft usually hires the Icons Factory to create the icons so it's not like Microsoft would have been delayed by making them or something.
Panda, what is the metro tile like for the clock app? (if there is one)

No clock app, here's the new programs/tiles though.

Please stop...
Not only 50:50 split. You can change the size to anything you want:

You can now use up to 3 metro apps at once on a 1080p monitor, all resizable.
It's like they stole Nokia's UI designers
[editline]24th March 2013[/editline]
I mean this as the best possible compliment
Multi-monitor optimization:
Start menu doesn't close when you click on a different screen
Metro apps can exist on multiple screens (so up to 6 metro apps with 2 1080p monitors)

But doesn't this impact the idea that Metro applications should be very simple to scale? Before they only had to make a scaleable 16:9, 16:10 and 4:3 and the 320x<768 versions pretty much, not they'll have to conform to a few more. I just mean, why not do it in the first place?

Neat!

What the hell? This is what Windows 8 should have been like.
Are we going to have to pay for Windows Blue?

Some apps don't scale too well, others work just fine. But this would cause problems for 8 specific apps as they could have controls outside the view box. Music currently does that in Blue.

Well, oops. Have a tick.
You can use multiple metro apps with resolutions smaller than 1366x768 now.

Oh god, my idea of buying a little screen just for start menu/metro apps finally comes true.
It just would be nice if we could tell the start menu on what monitor to open.
It always opens on your primary display if you hit the super key on your keyboard.
This is not true, when I plug my thinkpad into an external display, it always opens on the thinkpad LCD even if the external monitor is set to primary.
[editline]24th March 2013[/editline]
Unless I'm confusing main display with the numbers.
Bit of bad news for Start Menu enthusiast:
Microsoft has removed all bits of the old start menu from Explorer and the registry as well as the msstyles.
Which means Start8, StartIsBack, and ClassicShell all do not work in blue.
At least not without major reconstruction and changes.

already in that world man
i would just go ahead and install it right now on my hard drive but that is stupid with the need of always reinstalling each leak.

give them a few days and it will all be fineeeee
but with my smaller second screen, as long as i can just have metro live over there forever i wont complain
My left monitor is #2 and is set as a main display, it always has the start screen on it, the only way to get it to open on the right display is to use the hotspot on the right display.
Monitor 1 is the think pad LCD but the external monitor is set as main LCD.
If I switch monitor mode to external only, then back to extend, then the start menu appears on the external. If I switch to internal only, then extend then the start menu appears on the internal.
The numbers do not change.
