Gbps, no offense, but sit this one out.
No
Just posting from experience. I wouldn't tell him to go with another heatsink if I didn't have a reason for it. I had a perfectly good AMD Dual Core 2.0GHz casual rig running casual games once. I used the stock cooler provided with the CPU. It only took overnight for my CPU to burn up when the fan suddenly stopped functioning.

The stock i7 EE HSF, for example, can actually be used for some overclocking.
Here's my advice from experience in computer building: HDD - Either go with a 1TB HDD or a 10,000RPM HDD. The TB is less expensive than the 10k RPM, but you will thank me in the future for choosing one of them. MOBO - Good choice, but you need to stay with DDR2. You can shave 50$ off your rig if you stay with DDR2 instead of DDR3. DDR3 is ONLY necessary if your going with a core i7 rig. RAM - Always go for DDR2. Also, 4GB of RAM will help you more than anything CPU - Go ahead and upgrade to quad core. You have a Phenom X2, but you should be getting a Phenom X4. You will also thank me in the future for that. PSU - Go with a brand-name PSU. I've never heard of that brand, and I don't trust it. PSUs can go bad too easy, so go with something like a Corsair.
Let me work on the rest of your post, shall I? HDD - Not everyone needs a 1TB HDD or a 10,000RPM HDD - a 320GB 7200RPM is great for most people. Hell, my computer upstairs is using a 250GB IDE 5200RPM HDD and it runs quite well. Sure, there's probably some bottlenecking, but really, what does it matter? It still runs Crysis on High pretty well. And NO, HARDLY ANYBODY WILL USE UP 1TB OF SPACE. Honestly, unless you run a hell of a lot of games, have a lot of images or video on your HD, or one of the other few exceptions, then <500GB HDD is great for anybody. MOBO - Allright, you're speaking the truth here. Carry on. RAM - 4GB of RAM is okay, but 2GB is good for what he has. And no, don't always go for DDR2. DDR3 is way more advanced (though it is expensive) then DDR2. CPU - Honestly, how many times do I have to say this? MOAR CORES AREN'T NECESSARY. Unless you're doing some extreme multitasking or rendering shit, higher clocked dual cores are better than slower clocked quads in a hell of a lot of cases. PSU - Well, you got the crap about the PSU right.
Okey, bai everyone. It so seems no one cares for my advice. Just to tell you, I've been around the block a few times with computer hardware, and everything I've said has been valid ever since.
Better safe than sorry. [editline]08:49PM[/editline] As do you.
I know this is overused, but... "NO U." Honestly, you have a shitload of misconcpetions about a lot of things, take our advice and do what Prismatex said - sit this one out.
Bye. @Aurora DDR3 is only slightly faster than DDR2, not worth the extra money.
Okey, bai everyone. It so seems no one cares for my advice. Just to tell you, I've been around the block a few times with computer hardware, and everything I've said has been valid ever since.
Thank you.
Okay, I'm going to use a fallback CPU and motherboard. Will take a few to update. EDIT: Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157161 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103681
Bye. @Aurora DDR3 is only slightly faster than DDR2, not worth the extra money.
I know, but everything will probably switch (slowly, but surely) to DDR3 because of all the shit with Core i7 and the other new Intel brands and shit.
Okey, bai everyone. It so seems no one is listening to my shitty advice because I'm an idiot who needs to learn more about computers. Just to tell you, I've been near the block once with computer hardware, and everything I've said has been true (only in my opinion and no one else's) ever since.
Shut the door on the way out, don't forget your coat and bullshit advice edit: hey I just realised over 1k posts. Both I could agree could be downgraded to fit a budget, but if you have a few extra $ to spend, spend it on a luxury.
Updated MOBO and CPU. Tell me if this works. And will my RAM work with the MOBO?
rather than a necessity? such as, say, a good CPU to go with your GPU and 8 gig of ram?

You're not helping anyone. You should leave before you make an even bigger fool out of yourself.
I would appreciate if you would act more mature and stay on the subject (which is actually helping out this poor guy who wants some help on his comp build)
Better than you posting misleading advice.
Forget it.
Can I just get some help instead of everybody telling one person to stfu and leave (he really does need to though)?

Even if you're going expensive, better HDD and CPU with MOAR CORES is kind of stupid. Dual Cores are perfect in most cases. And also, about the bit that you did say that it's better safe than sorry to have a third-party CPU cooler - of course it's better safe than sorry, but this dosen't mean to go and buy a liquid cooling system and place the CPU water block on your mobo in an instant just for "safety". Nor would you go and a third-party CPU cooler when your CPU runs great with the stock. [editline]09:13PM[/editline] All right, on topic. AND GBPS, STAY THE HELL OUT. Why do you still not have a DDR2 motherboard?
I would get this ram... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104087 get 2 sticks if you want better performance, but 2 gb is fine. if you want 2 gb of ram, these might be better. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104045 this is a better hdd.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136320 the PSU is questionable, only 3 reviews, but good reviews. there's not many specifications though. this doesn't look like somthing I would buy. this one looks better... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339009 nice CPU for monitors, these look the best. 20" or 23", you pick. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=Property&N=2010100005&PropertyCodeValue=384%3A6820&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=False&CompareItemList=N82E16827118030%2CN82E16827106291%2CN82E16827140034%2CN82E16827151188%2CN82E16827106289 good luck and have fun :D

I most likely will because it was just my b-day on the 5th and half of my family will be sending cards.
But the memory standard is only DDR3 on that mobo, not DDR2 and DDR3. You have DDR2 memory. It won't work.

Okay, fine, but I find it better to stick with one or the other, being as you'll have more DIMMs to play with. More DIMMs can be used for more sticks, so instead of having one 4GB stick of DDR3 (do they even make single 4GB sticks? lol), you can have 4 1GB DDR3 sticks, which runs signigantly better.

Yeah. But more DIMMs is better, and when you stick to one or the other, you get moar DIMMs.
