You're not giving me any proof.
Boohoo you're not worth it
I'm running my xbox over the component cables and it's set at 1080p
Yes, you get twice as much resolution. 1080i=540p
a modern TV's native resolution is the highest it can support, so it either supports 1080p or doesn't, if it does, it upscales all sources to 1080p.
Not true. I have a Vizio 32" that is 720p but it supports 1080p, it just downscales it.
Boohoo you're not worth it
Sounds to me like someone can't back up what you say. Get out.
Oh, arguments over the internet. How exhilarating.
Manufacturers write 1080p support on TVs, but they mean that it can handle an 1080p input signal and rescale it.
I have a 720p set that can downscale a 1080p input and it clearly says "720p" on the front of the manual.
Yes, you get twice as much resolution. 1080i=540p
thats really a common misconception. it's much closer to 1080p than 540p. you're still getting 1080 different lines of video, they're just interlaced.
Don't most Xbox 360 games run at 720p anyway? I think I remember reading that somewhere.
someone didn't read the thread before posting
Yes, you get twice as much resolution. 1080i=540p
The resolution is still 1920*1080
Nobody seems to think of that he's TV doesn't support native 1080p, it only support 1080p downscaled to 720p. I would use the included Component cable and set the Xbox output resolution to 720p. That would give enough Image quality.
What the fuck dude? If it says "Full HD" or "1080p" on the tv it's 1080p, not some wierd shit like scaled down to some other resolution for no reason.
Some games genuinely are 1080p, but on the xbox 360 side it's not worth bothering. PS3 actually has some half decent games running at 1080p, like wipeout hd and katamari forever (and others). Xbox 360 puts 1080p on the back of every game box, but PS3 games only show 1080p if they actually are.
A PS3 game can put 1080p on the box if it does internal scaling. GTA IV runs at some silly small res on PS3, but it internally scales to 1080p.
A lot of 360 games don't even run at 720p same with ps3.
Yeah, I've heard some things that developers just decrease the resolution if the game doesn't run at playable fps. :v:
This thread confuses me, just guy the damn cable, it's only like 5$.
1080i sucks ass
Yes, you get twice as much resolution. 1080i=540p
That's not how interlacing works. You get the same high-quality picture on 1080i and 1080p, especially if the view is not moving fast. You only may notice a difference on really high-motion videos. So far, I never did and I run on 1080i HDTV here. Interlaced pictures just jumper over one line per frame. Frame one is line 1,3,5,7 etc and the following frame is line 2,4,6,... The deinterlacer-unit in your TV anyway reproduces a full-picture for one frame using the previvious frame. In most cases, you don't see a huge difference.
Sounds to me like someone can't back up what you say. Get out.
Oh man you're really hurting my feelings haha
A PS3 game can put 1080p on the box if it does internal scaling. GTA IV runs at some silly small res on PS3, but it internally scales to 1080p.
The case for GTA4 in the PS3 claims to run at 1080i/p. But whenever I run it it forces itself down to 720p, so I'm guessing it downscales for some unknown reason.
The screen blacks out when I try to select it in the options.
Then you don't have a 1080p TV.

There was a massive fuss when it came out since the 360 version runs at 720p but the PS3 version is 640p (I think)

[editline]10:04PM[/editline] However, if your TV is a good de-interlacer, the quality will be similar to 1080p during still scenes.

Makes me wish my PC could even run the launcher, let alone the game :v:
1080p is best.
eh, the 360 supports 1080p over component
It's rubbish compared to HDMI though.
Yes, you get twice as much resolution. 1080i=540p
Nope 1080i is the same resolution as 1080p. On the left are two progressive scan images. Center are two interlaced images. Right are two images with line doublers. Top are original resolution, bottom are with anti-aliasing.
Wikipedia 1080i is interlacing (middle to right) 1080p is progressive scan (left). This page helps some too.
