~Revolutionary~ designers need to eat too.
they should be eating pretty well after they took a decent workstation and fucked it sideways
You wanna fight or something?
After reading/watching reviews, the back and forward buttons on the mouse seem to be too far back to press which kinda sucks because I'd use those buttons a lot. It wouldn't have been much of an issue if it had the back and forward buttons on the scroll wheel.
Oh whoops, walked right into the CS thread didn't i
Oh whoops, walked right into the CS thread didn't i
Typical Nova
Typical Nova
Nova? What are you referring to. Is this a CS joke? I don't play CS.
Nova? What are you referring to. Is this a CS joke? I don't play CS.
Nova is a lower ranking in CS:GO competitive.
So how about those computers, huh guys
We need a giant "DAYS SINCE PREVIOUS CONTENT" thing in the OP.
I play CS in 800x600 stretched on my 21:9 screen so the enemies are bigger and easier to hit :) [editline]confirmedtrue[/editline] My friend says that it does something to clientside hitbox prediction fluxwaves and you also get knife drops that way
So how about those computers, huh guys
Yeah, I'm still using few year old or older tech right now.
I played CS:GO once. I hated it.
I would like to start by saying that some pros use the settings I use, by coincidence. Just like how some use the same settings you use by coincidence. With that done: Having more frames in cs helps input processing in the same way that increasing polling speed on a mouse helps, ie your movements are averaged out by the engine less, which does happen and is funky as fuck, with more time between each frame giving a greater amount of mouse input to be averaged. Especially the problems with having rawinput on (or off, i dont remember), which makes it do all sorts of strange shit. There are youtube videos of guys using teensys to send set amounts of mouse counts to cs, and it behaving as intended (snapping from position 1 to 2 instantly) on one setting, but spazzing out on the other. Secondly, if you have less frames than the tickrates you're using you will be at an instant disadvantage since your aim won't be as well synced with the server. As well as this if you are running at lower framerates you will have the issue of input lag (16ms at 60fps, compared to <5ms when you're over 200). Also 200+ was a moderately arbitrary number I pulled. I cannot say definitely that there is a breakpoint at 200, just that 200 is a safe number to have.
Okay, so you've at least answered the question. Now, let's see if your answer holds up. Your claim, essentially, is that Source processes input and game logic once per frame. Thus, a higher framerate decreases input latency and allows for finer control. Let us suppose for a minute that this claim is true. Does ultra-high FPS have a meaningful impact on gameplay? The input latency is likely a non-issue due to a hidden assumption of yours: that input polling and game logic is done at the very start of the frame, rather than at the last possible point before rendering. This is such a flawed design that I have no doubt Source does not do things that way. Source, and any other decent engine, will poll input immediately before issuing draw calls. Assuming 1ms CPU time for issuing render commands, 16ms for scanout (this is fixed to your display refresh rate, at least on VGA, DVI and HDMI), and 10ms LCD response time, going from 60 to 200fps cuts your latency only from 43ms to 32ms. Considering you could get a better reduction playing at 120fps on a 120Hz display with reduced response time (~19ms), which I notice you aren't insisting on, I think we can safely qualify this as "not a significant reduction", particularly since this is a networked game with a 33ms tickrate - even with zero lag, you're looking at things up to 33ms old on top of the above latencies. Now for the issue of finer control. To be clear, this means taking input made during a single frame and having it take effect then. This would let you distinguish, for example, between a 16ms-long sidestep and an 18ms-long sidestep. This is patently absurd. Not even platformers need movement this precise, and even if you need positioning that accurate, you could solve that with an analog input (thumbstick) rather than mucking about with input processing. Does anyone in the professional community use such a setup? If so, I am unaware. Thus, even if your claim is true, it seems unlikely that ultra-high-framerate settings would have a notable impact on latency. I also have reason to doubt that this is the case (from here onward, the argument is not assuming you are correct about the input processing being frame-synchronous). Source handles networking in an asynchronous thread - this is trivially proven, as changing the tickrate to an ugly non-factor of your display rate does not immediately turn latency to garbage. Hell, if that were the case, competitions would ban disabling vsync, since it would ruin everyone's game if even one person were at 61fps instead of 60. I also believe physics is processed multiple times per frame, for accuracy. I know this was a GMod thing, I expect if it mattered it would have been merged into CS. This is even more relevant, as the player is a physically-simulated object. So if Source is already processing at least one thing asynchronously, probably two, why would input not be processed asynchronously? I can think of only one reason: that it does not matter. If it mattered, it seems so easy to implement (given that Source is already asynchronous in other ways) that it would be very odd for Valve not to implement it. Given that my Bayesian priors favor Valve knowing how to write a game engine better than you, I see no reason to change from that position. Perhaps, back in CS1.6, it mattered. I could believe that GoldSrc had worse input latency than Source, and that such tricks might be valuable. I do not see any reason why that should have continued after CS:S, save for sheer ontological inertia. Which you have yourself demonstrated to be a major part of your decision-making process.
Also it was a really big surprise after getting home from work late to find 96 new posts for CIP and it was all this shit.
Oh boy three pages I wonder wha-
I played CS:GO once. I hated it.
Well it's like CS:S but.. well, it's still on Source so it's basically still CS:S :v:
My poor merge Edit: fuck
I played CS:GO once. I hated it.
All I play now is Insurgency.
All I play now is Insurgency.
I only play Secret of the Magic Crystals. Anything else is for casual scrubs.
That moment when something is 2x the price on Amazon.ca compared to Costco.
computers
I only play "resolve the missing dependencies" I think that's the only game for Linux?
I've logged some serious hours on that game.
I only play "resolve the missing dependencies" I think that's the only game for Linux?
rm -rf / is my favourite lunix game
I only play "resolve the missing dependencies" I think that's the only game for Linux?
Not true. There's also the "I wonder what window manager I'll use tod- oh" game.
Have you beaten the level where you need to find GTK1.0 components yet? Its a pain in the arse.
Yeah, but I had to look up some cheat guides online.
DAE manually network every packet?
You guys should try the Permadeath mod.
I'm definitely installing suicide at once point, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

aaaa still too much i'm done with computers i'm just going to lean in to becoming one of those dumb teens that only uses an iphone
Sand Castle if you want to add me on steam I'd be happy to go over a build with you.
