2% in 3 hours. jesus crust why does windows shit need to be so fucking bloated
The registry did sound good in theory, a central place for storing configurations.
But third-party applications fucked it up by storing all kinds of bullshit in all kinds of places.
There is no order, some programs may even store cryptic hidden entries somewhere in a hidden place for god knows what reason, that arent even removed upon uninstall.
It's chaos, and the whole thing needs to die.
It seems that's the case with every standard place to store shit the OS tries to have, there's a folder in my documents specifically for savegames? nah let's fuckin make our own in appdata
For me, these changes would put Windows to the top of my fav list.
Remove the
Program Files
Program Files (x86)
Program Data
system in favor of a single unified folder.
Deprecate the use of the Windows Registry in favor of UTF8 config files.
Create an official API, which allows Developers to create custom Window Managers without having to resort to complicated hacks.
API to change the way fonts render, to allow custom font rendering to happen without having to resort to terrible hacks (Mactype, etc...) which have terrible performance.
Improved uninstall system which has the ability to remove all possible traces of a program.
I know that none of these would ever happen, but I still would like to see these features in Windows.
I read something about x86 apps would come in some kind of container when you download them from the Windows Store. I know exactly nothing about this, but couldn't streamline this process?

IMO best thing would probably be a Windows Integrated Installer system.
In which the dev's are restricted to the Best-practice folder locations for Binaries, Documents, Configurations, Temp files, etc... but guarantees a working installation and 100% clean uninstall, and absolutely no interferences from other program installations.
I blame both MS and the Devs for it. MS for not actually doing something to fix this. They are just gonna make a blog post passively addressing devs that you should put content X in folder Y.
And Developers (AAA and Big name dev's in particular) because they just place shit wherever they want.
Not a really popular opinion, but the dev's need to be put on a leash for certain things, since their shitty practices can be malicious to the end-user, which also negatively impacts Windows's reputation.

Yes. IIRC, they will have a virtual Filesystem and virtual registry to solve this.
I can imagine them being in a .vhdx container.
so what?
are caselabs cases actually worth the half grand you're spending on them? plus assembly, plus getting fans
there's a market for nice looking cases that don't cost more than your graphics card
I've honestly found it worth it for my case, but it isn't for everyone. The issue I have is its the third time, and not just copying case labs. Also tt hasn't exactly made a decent case until recently when they started copying case labs/fractal
[editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
Not to mention the designer is being really douchy. When someone on Twitter asked him what's the differences between the case labs case and the thermaltake he responded "Me! (Drops mic)"
There are probably better headphones you can buy for the money then an m50x, at this point.

god damn.
i seriously need to buy a M50x when, in the distant future, i go to a first world country. G430s just don't cut it.
4/6, pretty good if I do say so myself.
If the samples are randomized I'll try it out with my headphones instead of my speakers instead.

My favourite part is the self proclaimed audiophiles in the comments saying "I only got 3/6 because your examples are bad"
They are it seems. Only got Dark Horse and Speed of Sound wrong, mainly because I just skipped the last parts for all. Tom’s Diner is the easiest.
Really?
Tom's diner should be the hardest because MP3 was designed to not touch the vocals as much as possible.
Tracks like Speed of Sound should be easier because the entire frequency spectrum is filled, making it easier to detect the muddy-ness of the higher tones.
[editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
It's hardly an argument against FLAC if you can't hear the difference in my opinion. I like to have the highest quality for archiving purposes because I can just convert to any type I need for a device, like my phone.
But if you have the lossless version of a track you might as well listen to that right?
The Coldplay's piece, Speed of Sound, [sp]I picked the track that didn't have crackling in the background because it was distracting, turns out it was the 128kbps one.[/sp] :v:
For some reason, when I switched to my PC's front panel headphone jack, sound would get distorted / lack lower bands of frequency.
It made detecting the 128kbps track really easy. With 320kbps it's a bit harder, though.
[vid]http://a.pomf.fi/zgptas.wav[/vid]
That's how it sounded. I wonder if audiophiles hear this when they listen to low quality music. :v:
I still have nightmares about my motherboard's built-in audio
I never used anything other than my onboard soundcard.
Is it really that bad?
I never used anything other than my onboard soundcard.

No.
I just use my TV screen as a screen and speaker through HDMI
What the hell. Just simply nudging the headphone jack with the headphones connected switches between that horrible garbled mess and acceptable quality. What is going on?!
Bad connection most likely
Turning the volume to 100 while listening to the "good quality" changes it to that mess, without me touching the headphone jack. v:v:v
No. Most onboard audio is fine unless you're ASUS and your board happens to be a P8Z77V-LX. Then prepare for your worst nightmare.

Akasori bro my merge.
I have a P8Z77-V Pro, though I'm using Xonar DG instead of onboard audio.

Many cases have horribly cheap front-audio sockets.
You don't happen to be using ASUS drivers and not the unified ones right? Cause if you are there's your issues. Specially if you have GX enabled.
Unified ones.
Many cases have horribly cheap front-audio sockets.
I have Define R3. Is that bad?
I have Define R3. Is that bad?
It's usually cheap cases that have shitty front-audio sockets, but I wouldn't be surprised if some more expensive cases suffer too.
After all, the average Joe & Jane uses shitty headsets and in-ears, so they don't care or don't know any better.
I have a P8Z77-V Pro, though I'm using Xonar DG instead of onboard audio.
My Xonar's sitting in a box because I didn't remember it was PCI, this mobo only has PCI-E
It's the first on my cutting block, hate this cheap, port lacking, crashy-ass motherboard
Yet I offered to take your PCI DG for my PCI-E DGX and you still refuse to take my offer :v:
Because I'm lazy and don't really care THAT much
The only reason I even bought the DG was because BF3 Multiplayer would crash on certain Realtek chips
Fairly sure it's still never been fixed either :v:
Quick question here, is there a way these days to install Sybase SQL anywhere 5.0?
[T]http://i.imgur.com/b0iu2re.png[/T]
Right now I'm in the store of a florist where my mom works for, and she needs the software of her cash register on her office computer. I tore this installer from the cash register running Windows XP, but it requires a floppy. That's how old it is.

Is it a "I need this quickly as a temporary solution" or is it "This is for a probably permanent installation"?
Most likely the latter, chances are she'll upgrade the cash register after 2-3 years and she desperately needs the program to run on her office computer.
Lol, 2 songs into the test I realized my front sound got interference from the front USB ports (Recent thing, really weird) and that might have skewed the results a bit.

2/6, got MP3 320 for all of the rest bar that Katy Perry song which considering how badly mastered pop music apparently is these days is not too surprising. There is barely any difference (If any at all) between MP3 320 and lossless, that I can detect and I'm playing this over speakers from the early 1980s that would cost around £400 in today's money.

Well at least as a temporary patch, it's probably your best bet to just VM XP.
