I like 8, but I appreciate the simplicity of 7. The design focus is older, but the bare-bones-ness of 7 not having all the extra features of 8 is nice.
Lubuntu's looking pretty good for this thing (I get about 300MB memory usage at idle). Anyone know how well Office works under Wine or is it a futile effort?
Windows 7 is pretty ugly compared to 8 imo
Windows Vista's look is still the best hands down EDIT: Why is this funny? I'm being serious
Windows 7 is pretty ugly compared to 8 imo
I despise the flat design personally. To each their own I suppose. Also, I like the pseudo transparency given by aero. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one.
I just hate the round corners and thick borders of win7 after getting used to 8
Windows 7 is pretty ugly compared to 8 imo
Honestly, I like the way Win 8 looks but I really miss all the themes you could get for 7. Stuff like Shine [t]http://img04.deviantart.net/20a8/i/2010/206/c/1/shine_2_0_for_windows_7_by_zainadeel.jpg[/t] I hope we'll see a bit of a surge in popularity again for this stuff with Win10.
I just hate the round corners and thick borders of win7 after getting used to 8
Those are valid complaints, which is actually one of the few things that's always bothered me regarding the 'Aero' UI layout of 7. That and the retarded placement of the user account image in the start menu, that's goddamn retarded.

With all their open sourcing lately, it's not as far-fetched as it once was.

The refurb mini has landed. And apparently in OOBE you can't even summon a virtual keyboard if the only keyboards in the place you have are all PS/2 and you don't have converters available. Hey, at least from the looks of it, it doesn't appear to be Yosemite.
workspaces on windows when?
If I remember right, this has actually been implemented.
If I remember right, this has actually been implemented.
Where??
Where??
In Win10 they will be (and already are in all of the TPs).
XFCE and workspaces on windows when?
After using XFCE on my Debian machine, I fail to see what you want that for, since the Win2k skin looks exactly like xfce.
Anyone know how well Office works under Wine or is it a futile effort?
Just use LibreOffice or similar. Most of the big name open-source office suites support all kinds of microsoft formats.
XFCE's customizability perhaps? Also bitchin' dark themes exist for XFCE.
Dark minimal themes or bust.
Dark minimal themes or bust.
Why go xfce for "dark minimalist theme" when you can just run awesome or i3?
Why go xfce for "dark minimalist theme" when you can just run awesome or i3?
Because it's what I prefer?
Today's Goodwill haul was pretty good in my book. Why do people think it's shameful to shop there? All the good loot you can find in there... [t]http://i.imgur.com/c2FUb7z.jpg[/t] Doing the excercises in it, Perl's my favorite out of the higher-level languages. Python makes me grumpy for some odd reason, Ruby still sucks but doesn't give me said grump, and Perl is pretty comfortable. Must be working with a high-level language like C for a while that makes it more friendly.
Do you also enjoy looking at line noise?
Only on the third chapter, man. But I have heard of people saying that before. Looking through the rest of the book, the closest I can tell that's close to "line noise" would be the s/this/that/ substitutions. sed-like commands aren't exactly foreign to me.
Where??
it works the same way as OS X's workspaces thing
it works the same way as OS X's workspaces thing
Haven't really used 10 TP much. I've only got it on a 90gb partition on my laptop that I very rarely boot to

Hey, at least from the looks of it, it doesn't appear to be Yosemite.
Update: I attempted this idea to get an old Vista-era Acer Aspire 5570 series laptop to emulate a Bluetooth keyboard. Only thing is, this particular laptop's Bluetooth adapter is crippled for whatever reason. So now I gotta wait until tomorrow to either get a cheapass keyboard or a PS/2 > USB converter. It's almost like I'd be waiting an additional day for the mini to be shipped in the first place.
I like the Windows 10 interface, looks a lot more modern than Windows 7. The flat design brings it right up to date. I feel most Linux Desktops were ahead of the curve though, they seem to of had flat designs since forever.
I bought a coffee pot at the goodwill. Made the best coffee I ever had, then broke the next day after I removed the stickers so I couldn't return it.
Why go xfce for "dark minimalist theme" when you can just run awesome or i3?
Those two are Window Managers, XFCE is a Desktop Environment. Basically I can let a tech illiterate use my laptop with XFCE with second to none instructions, since it's a complete package, whereas with Awesome or i3 I'll have to dick around with getting the extra's working myself somehow. IMO XCFE is the best balance of lightweight, customizability, stability and usability for both tech illiterates and the hardcore power users alike.
