Why would they bother censoring the user names when he's got the "Plex co-founder" flair right there
I feel most Linux Desktops were ahead of the curve though, they seem to of had flat designs since forever.
Microsoft are taking risks every time they change anything, so they have to slowly make changes so people can keep up.
They forgot this when they made Windows 8, but now that MS has a new CEO they're making some more sane decisions.

It was posted on a subreddit - Reddit has sitewide rules about distributing personal information, which means that screenshots, of Reddit posts, posted on Reddit, have to have the names blacked out.
I tried to find the post, I looked up his Reddit account, and then went through the posts - couldn't find the comments.
I'm thinking the idiot deleted his comments, and then he deleted his.
Dusted out my computer this morning, temps look great.

Sounds uber nerdy but this computer really is one of my favorite, like, accomplishments. It's sooo nice. Every once in a while it hits me how lucky I am to be in the position to have it.
Those two are Window Managers, XFCE is a Desktop Environment.
Basically I can let a tech illiterate use my laptop with XFCE with second to none instructions, since it's a complete package, whereas with Awesome or i3 I'll have to dick around with getting the extra's working myself somehow.
IMO XCFE is the best balance of lightweight, customizability, stability and usability for both tech illiterates and the hardcore power users alike.
god damn.
i seriously need to buy a M50x when, in the distant future, i go to a first world country. G430s just don't cut it.
Picked out the 128kbps MP3 in all cases.
No audible difference between 320kbps and uncompressed, and I'm pretty sure scientific studies haven't ever found one either.
And true, MP3 gets a worse rep than it deserves - this isn't the 90s anymore, we have decent encoders (and bitrates) and a lot of the artifacts in terrible P2P audio files are because they've been recompressed a dozen times. Though there's still far better codecs (Opus <3) and 128kbps MP3 is, to a lot of people, objectively not (quite) transparent.
Terribly executed test though.

The true problem arises when mp3 stops getting popular. If all the tracks in the world were mp3 files, and this new standard format comes out, then when they would start compressing from mp3 to this new format, alot of audible artifacts will appear, then the original sound quality is lost forever.
However, if you keep lossless files and keep compressing them to other lossless formats, the quality will be the same forever, even if it is 10 years or 100 years from now.

The originals generally still exist somewhere - on CD, often enough - and both the music industry and warez scene would compress based on those, not MP3s.

This would be like if once a movie came out on VHS they just threw the original film reels away
Woke up to Comcast digging up my entire front yard to lay a new line. Got excited because maybe they were installing fiber. Nope.
We talked to the guy and he said he's basically just going to move a box on the left side of the house to the right side of the house. :|
Went on my PC this morning and Windows decided it's not genuine anymore.
Well fuck.

But think of how many nanoseconds better latency you'll get on the right side of the house now!

That seems suspicious, they're just gonna suspect you have some really nasty fetishes or freaky hobbies.
It's fixable.
In this case it sadly isn't, just spent a few hours looking into it.

I'm pretty sure I know how to fix it, but can't exactly post it.

Unless you don't have a legal key it's quite fixable...
Unless you don't have a legal key it's quite fixable...
Its fixable regardless if the key is legit or not. v:v:v
W7 doesn't exactly have the greatest activation and "genuine" checks, you can just reactivate it with some tools and fool it into thinking it's genuine again.

Yeah, I recall it being relatively simple to fix.

You'd be surprised. Plenty of groups have been banned off of private trackers at one point or another specifically because of transcodes.
No audible difference between 320kbps and uncompressed, and I'm pretty sure scientific studies haven't ever found one either.
This is objectively wrong. The difference between 320 MP3s, and lossless should be transparent to most people, for most songs. Sometimes some of us can discern a difference, even on MP3s that are properly encoded. Some types of audio simply make the MP3 artifacts stick out to some people.

I feel so conflicted right now.
I was going to return my laptop back to the store I bought it from because of all kinds of hard drive problems that didn't get fixed after a few trips to repair. They promised to return a portion of the original price plus some compensation for trouble. I was already prepared to buy a new laptop.
Then the idiot me just had to start playing with the laptop for the last time, and I managed to fix the problem. I had the event viewer open when it happened and it showed some events that I had never seen before. Makes sense, because they wouldn't show afterwards due to computer never being able to write them. Some googling and there it is, a driver issue. Apparently I had forgotten to install some drivers for this piece of shit (still, I wonder why the problem appeared after a year).
So, the problem is fixed. All is good and well, except I lost my chance to get a new better laptop at a "reduced" price. While this one is fine, the last repair introduced some physical issues on the computer. I'd take it back but there's no way I can prove they weren't caused by me, because I didn't bother to check it when I received the laptop.

I have a normal-seeming windows but on closer inspection, everything's in french and the keyboard has no letters written on it.
If I happen to encounter a touch-typer, he gets treated to the full éèçà^complement of keys he didn't know were there.
Also fun fact, if you ssh into my laptop, everything's in french even there :V

I got 5/6. JayZ's was the only one I couldn't tell in. I think mp3 as a codec has some sort of signature that I was picking up on, because I could notice the same *things* in the two mp3's despite the difference in bit rate affecting quality opposed to listening for the difference in quality, if that makes sense.
Edit:
Yeah. By listening to the fading in and out as well as static I can pick out the differences between mp3 and wav, but not the two mp3's :V
Damn, the laptop was only pretending. What a piece of crap.
Anyone know a workaround for this error?
