What's the best FM2 socket cpu I can get? I have an A10-5800k. Alternatively, since it's the k series, what would I need to overclock it to the max?

760k overclocked would be the best, but it's only one gen newer. Overclock your 5800k. Grab a cooler master hyper 212 EVO for it.
You'd be surprised. Plenty of groups have been banned off of private trackers at one point or another specifically because of transcodes.
You must be talking about P2P groups then, as scene rules prohibit re-encodes.
This is objectively wrong. The difference between 320 MP3s, and lossless should be transparent to most people, for most songs. Sometimes some of us can discern a difference, even on MP3s that are properly encoded. Some types of audio simply make the MP3 artifacts stick out to some people.
I meant "No audible difference" as in "no audible difference to me". My comment about scientific studies was that I haven't seen a single large-scale ABX test between 320kbps and uncompressed that showed a difference, but as I said I might be wrong.
I got 5/6. JayZ's was the only one I couldn't tell in. I think mp3 as a codec has some sort of signature that I was picking up on, because I could notice the same *things* in the two mp3's despite the difference in bit rate affecting quality opposed to listening for the difference in quality, if that makes sense.
Edit:
Yeah. By listening to the fading in and out as well as static I can pick out the differences between mp3 and wav, but not the two mp3's :V
To me it sounds like the uncompressed/320kbps versions of Speed of Sound are clipping for some reason.
I got an email from a partner of Prima guides, they did a little interview with me since they were going to put my interstate as part of like minecraft history or something. They didn't agree to compensate much, but I'm pushing for a free copy of the book when it's published. Won't sign until I get at least something.

Done, just ordered it. I've never installed an after market cooler, how do I clean the existing thermal paste off my CPU?
[editline]5th June 2015[/editline]
I also bought some arctic silver too.

A q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. I'd also really recommend Arctic Cooling MX4 over that.
So where can I get a laptop that has:
1TB SSD
32GB RAM
At least an i5 processor
Not less durable than a soggy paper towel
Price doesn't matter; work's buying.
Got my diploma in the mail. It said do not bend. It's bent. And there is a crease in my lovely diploma.

Asus sells those G551's that handle 32GB... I dunno but it's a laptop I am looking at for a while.

Anything with 4 RAM slots is probably going to have a pretty hefty dGPU too. Might have to sort through the gaudy gaming laptops if it's for work.
After an unexpected HL3ing due to the fact that that the only other keyboard I had was PS/2...

Oh yeah, and also it's Mavericks (as was expected based on hints in the Quick Start guide...). I'll take it (Mountain Lion would've been fine with me too, pretty much Mavericks without the features of Mavericks anyway).

They know I'm a gamer so they probably don't want to hand me the top of the line gaming computer... I did forget one requirement too, has to be a business edition. (I really don't know what that means, per se, but my boss did communicate that.)
Docking station is also a big plus. We work with multiple displays.

My experience with USPS is if there is a warning on the mail, they will explicitly do the opposite.

A thinkpad W541 then?
[editline]5th June 2015[/editline]
Can only get 512gb SSD from factory though...
A thinkpad W541 then?
Their configurator doesn't have a 1TB SSD option, but if it's a true thinkpad it should be user-replaceable. Definitely looks great, thanks.
My boss is the one with the 1TB SSD requirement; I'm personally only using about 200GB and like 50GB of that is stupid personal shit I have collected on my work PC so whatever.

Basically no gaming or discount shitty home laptop is how I'm interpreting it.

That's probably for the best, then. I'll make the case for the 512GB SSD.
Could use an external hard drive but our company outright disables USB file transfer...

Cant you like upgrade it to one of those Samsung EVOs? If I'm reading it wrong then oops, just sleepy. What I'm saying is just swap out the HDD and install the 1TB SSD. Wouldn't you be saving money that way or am I wrong? I kinda saved a bit with my X230.
But think of how many nanoseconds better latency you'll get on the right side of the house now!
Funny thing is the main cable line comes from the south side of the house, past our house to Comcast's mini-node box which then goes back south again across our yard to hook into the area around the power panel.
At first I thought they were moving the node/splitter, but looks like it's just the fucking box where it enters the house. It's a plastic box with our splitter. Fuckers.
My tutor gave me the thumbs up to a job listing I asked him to look over, reckons it will start me small at first before building me up to maintaining bigger stuff like servers. Just got to get my CV up and running and it should be ready to be submitted Monday. Sort of feel slightly excited and slightly nervous I have to admit, first job I've will ever apply for and my first IT one at that.
If all places, I'm amazed China has absolutely no customizability for ordering DOM's.
All I need is 8mb, a SATA interface with a standard SATA power connector and a good price. You can get USB keys as small as 1mb AND they're as low as $5 but DOM's? NOOOOOOOOO. Fucking paying $30 for a DOM that's 2gb in size to hold a partition 1mb in size. What a waste.
In regards to the suddenly not genuine windows key, i replaced my motherboard and also the key got leaked online in them hacks 2 years ago so i just said fuck the whole mess.
There's a special hell just for everyone involved in the manufacturing of OBD-II software and hardware

So I just looked at that processor. Is a cpu with an FM2+ socket compatible with plain ol' FM2 like I have?
[editline]5th June 2015[/editline]
What i'm reading on a couple different forums says that I can't.
So I just looked at that. Is a cpu with an FM2+ socket compatible with plain ol' FM2 like I have?
Nope. FM2 CPU's will work with FM2+ boards, but not the other way around. So the 760k is the best you'll get. There's an extra couple pins in FM2+.
Speaking of connection speed, one benefit of the new box location is that the modem and router could be in my room and I could be wired to it and not on wireless finally. Not that it's really a problem, but often if I reboot with a ton of tabs, I basically kill my adapter and I have to restart the wifi adapter for it to work.
A friend was asking about the shitty wifi at his school. Apparently their IT department setup a temporary internet connection using a cable modem and a single dual-band Cisco home-grade wireless router. That temporary setup has lasted a few months now, apparently it doesn't work too well when there are like, 150 people trying to access it. Though another student isn't having any problems with his internet, in fact he's getting about 100 Mbps when doing speedtests. So I stop by with those two and whip out my phone running Wifi Analyser. On 2.4 GHz, there's a shitload of other APs EVERYWHERE across the band. I flip over to 5 GHz and there's the school's Cisco AP at the start of the band and some Netgear at the opposite end.
It turns out that even when nobody is around, my friend was barely getting 1Mbps because the entire 2.4 GHz band was saturated. 5.8 GHz is almost completely clean, so everyone with 5 GHz stuff is getting a perfect connection.
5 GHz is such a nice frequency band, except when I have to deal with it at work. 5.8 GHz doesn't go through trees worth shit. And our 5.8 GHz Alvarion radios are only managed through telnet and SNMP, no web UI. And you can't even see signal strength through SNMP for some reason. They're reliable, just shitty to manage compared to other vendors.

At work we have a mesh network with these Ubiquiti UniFi AC dual band APs. It's so nice. I get like 150+mbps at all times of the day no matter where I go.
That first one would make a really good tiny build.
