Hey dude, want to come over and play pong and listen to my new greatful dead album?
I need help. I'm reformatting this Studio XPS 9100 for my sister in law. Drive in it died so I put in one of my old but working 640GB WD Blues.
Put it in, put in windows 7. And it says "No Drives were found. "Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation"
Two things. 1) after about an hour I found a driver that would load, everything I found was an executable which installed it automatically, no driver file. And when I go to load it, it reads the 640GB as a 1192GB drive

2) When I go to load the driver, I can hit browse and fucking browse the harddrive that apparently the windows setup can't fucking find.
ghost partitions+misread drives
it happens rarely though
Can you expand on this? It's a data drive just with video files on it. NTFS. I used to use it for backups but the data is old. Should I try reformatting it in my desktop?
Title had me chuckling for like five mins, I have no idea why.
I finally started playing some graphically intensive games on my rig with my new 1080p monitor, it's so pretty it hurts.
you can format it there using diskpart
//Shift+F11
diskpart
list disk (note the disk you want)
select disk X (X = the disk you want)
list partition (note which partition you want)
select partition X (X = the partition you want)
format quick (can add label=<namehere> if you want to name it)
active (marks the drive as active)
gpt (can't remember if you actually have to do this)
exit
then reload the drivers and try again
[editline]29th May 2015[/editline]
the reason why it happens is because it fails to read the file tables correctly, that and windows setup is really dumb, it did the same thing with some older drives and even with my ssd
Formatting it in my desktop didn't solve it.
Put it back in and formatted it through the command prompt like that, still didn't work.
Edit: Maybe the DVD is bad? idk at this point. Fucking dell.
Its a Dell, it explains all your problems right there.

Because I'll get banned, I'll link my reaction here: http://puu.sh/i3DMe.gif
I basically turned ON the raid in order to just see if something changed. That's when I saw that it was the same size and probably the array feeding the windows setup. So i deleted the raid, went back to AHCI to see if windows setup will see something.
Fingers crossed.
Yes, I know it sounds crazy but I know first hand that 7 and Vista's disk and partition utility is a piece of shit. It's even worse on laptops where you have nasty chipset-to-chipset bridges where OEM drivers are required before it's even aware of the damn SATA bus.
If you can, dump the driver to a USB drive and point to that. Sometimes I've found that I can bypass those really nasty EXE driver installers by extracting the contents of the installer using Winrar.

I already found drivers for it. Problem is the drivers don't show up the drive.
Just checked it now, now it sees no drives, even though I can see it in the browse box when looking for the god damn fucking drivers.
The fact that most people have used RAIDs at home now for the last 10 years and support is still so patchy is really disappointing.

So you do load the drivers, but still no disk (aside from that weird instance?).
Can't help you there. At that point me and my old boss would cry and sell it to someone else at the market without the disk or ram.

That was the case before, the 1200gb drive it found was some old RAID instance which no longer was around. I deleted the raid, and reset the drive to make sure it showed up as not in a RAID and then switched the system from RAID to AHCI.
Then went to the windows setup, loaded the drivers and it found nothing.
oh oneplus, you incompetent chucklefucks

imagine letting oneplus post to your facebook that verizon wireless had stolen oneplus's precious slogan
Ok, I give up. been trying to work on this piece of shit for like 4 hours now and nothing seems to bring up the drive. Even though I CAN FUCKING BROWSE IT.

It's mutual. We all hate computers.
So I just got promoted to junior network engineer.
Got an email from a Mr. Bill Milling from American Movie Company supposedly offering me a video editor and design position. I have a feeling it's just an automated email bot thing though finding keywords in my resume I post.
Does say it's $30 an hour.
Email mechanic to get estimate on brake line repair, tells you to bring it in and will call me when he has checked it out.
Get a day off a week later, bring it in as scheduled, they tell me they didn't order the brake hose, and they might not get it. Wait around, they tell me I'll get a replacement car if it takes till the next day, so far so good. Mechanic starts replacing the brake line, I don't object since w/e, know it can't be too expensive. Then (quick version) they fuck me over and tell me to take the train home and back the next day, leave slightly annoyed but ok w/e.
Next day they don't call, I ride the train back out in the evening (had work all day), call them for pickup, arrive at the dealership and get the bill. almost 1k. Most I expected was 700, and that was a very generous estimate.
Turns out they changed the back brake hoses as well, charged 10 €/L for oil that costs 4 €/L and such fun stuff. Also, apparently the easier part of the job on day 2 took 3+ hours, compared to 1 1/2 on the first to make new brake lines(was there for that).
Tell them I can't pay that out of pocket (Even if I had that much in the bank, card is limited to 400), tells me I should have called and he cant understand I wouldn't bring money to the dealership blabla. (Always payed the bill later via wire transfer so far)
Refuses to give me my car back, I ask to be driven back to the train station, nope, there's a bus stop across the street.
Obviously, after that I am not willing to take crap like 40 € oil, the only documentation that exists are the emails where I specifically request a estimate and they tell me to bring it in and that they will call me with it.
So basically they have no contract and besides the brake line I was there for (which obviously I will claim no more than 1 1/2) I will contest everything.
Hell, I even specified 5W40 in the e-mail and they used 10W40 after I even talked to the mechanic saying I really needed 5W.
tl;dr:
Fuck car repair places.
Well. That's exam's over for another year. Onward and upward.

I'm going to read up on the company a bit before replying, but yea I'm curious. Though my dad sent me a job posting that sounds decent for a local record label.

Way ahead of you, I already have a 70's mustache.
Too lazy to trim it down and keeping it neat, and even more too lazy to actually shave my upper lip every second day.

When the Van-man walks in the room, does funky 70's porn music start playing?
working with video editing must be great. i wish i could get into it but when all your published videos are like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqDSy-kIBow
it doesnt look very professional :v
Working with my own videos is good, but working with videos from people who don't shoot the project properly makes me want to kill myself sometimes.

My car is from late 80's but that doesn't stop me from thinking about replacing the carpet with something worthy of being called a shagrug.
And 70's porn music is the least worrysome music I hear.

I also have a goatee, straight-up Shaggy style.

What is it?
I wouldn't buy these "generic" Chinese variants, especially if they cost around the same as a popular branded counterparts. For the same price, you can get assuring quality and warranty.
He lives in Brazil so can't get a lot of stuff direct, or otherwise without absurd mark ups.
Not a bad choice.
Aliexpress isn't too bad from what I remember.

Can't he import from other countries by using shipping forwarding services?
