You will not be the first one to have this argument. Even I would still go for at least a 4790 or a 4790K over the Xeon. Sure it's cheaper and offers very similar if not equal performance but the iGPU is very useful if his GPU cracks or he has to RMA the GPU. I'd rather have an iGPU and a functional machine rather than a dead one. Hence I'd pay more and get the 4790/4790K
Not an argument, really, Xeons are just often overlooked because "server/workstation CPU". If an i7 is still worth it to you, fair enough.
I just emailed the company I buy all my parts at, told them I sent my motherboard for RMA (which I already requested yesterday, so don't worry, didn't send it without approval) and asked if it was possible to get in-store credit if they could verify it was a fault that was covered by warranty. They said it was possible, so once they receive my motherboard and verify it as broken without it being my fault, I get €80 back and will use that to purchase a MSI Z97 Gaming 7 and an Intel i7-4790k

I really need to vent myself now. After peeking in my computer lab admin computer because my IT teacher forgot to lock it, I found out that he have a 300GB network drive mounted to his computer, and its full of SFW movies. I found out through the permissions page that only he and our sysadmin are given permission to that. Then I asked him about that, and he even offered me to copy his movies. Then I noticed that the entire computer lab is using fast ethernet. Then I give a small demonstration to my IT teacher about the advantage of gigabit ethernet, using my laptop and one of the computer, and copying one of my movie to the computer using both gigabit and fast ethernet. He was convinced by that, and he even asked about my movie collection. Then the sysadmin come, and I suggested the gigabit ethernet to him. Because the computer lab is only used by year 7 and below, and the rest brings their own laptop, one of those cheap $200 24 port gigabit switch would be enough to satisfy all of those computer lab PC mounted network drive. Students can copy movies much faster, they can save their work much faster, and more stability in the network. Then he said that there isn't enough money to do that. Seriously. That small investment is enough to improve the IT lab by a huge amount. How can the school have enough money to build a chapel that are only used once in a month and an elevator that they only turned it on when there are parents or someone outside from the school come? Why do they don't fix our shit wifi and give the IT lab proper mousepad instead of scrap paper taped to the desk and broken keyboards? Now I understand tales of manglement in TFTS. Even my really awesome chemistry teacher is leaving this school because she can't stand what the manglement has done in this school. Then there is this tale that my PhD science teacher is paid lower then some random english teacher just because he is a Filipino while the english teacher is a foreigner. Or that the schedules are always changing without they thinking the implications to the teacher's plan.

If you look in the other departments of your school, you'll probably see similar things.
Fucking amazon has had my SSD listed as "shipping today" for three days already. I just want muh faster loading times.
ThinkPad arrived, its tiny and it weighs nothing.
You sound disappointed
So no???
What would even be the point? It didn't do anything new, it was just a simple 2.5D shooter. There's millions that do better already.
Soooooo.... I got my old motherboard out and I now have my PC working, at least, underclocked, without the case closed and with only one case fan. Still want an upgrade, fml.
Why the shit is my wireless RDP through Remmina on my laptop so much faster and less laggy than direct Windows RDP from my wired connection desktop? They're both set to 16 bit color modes, and I've tried ruling out resolution.

RDP was actually smoother on my old potato server than directly interfacing with it.
I RMAed my GTX 560 and got a 660 back, I hope the reference cooler isn't too loud.
I RMAed my GTX 560 and got a 660 back, I hope the reference cooler isn't too loud.
Is this a thing? I should RMA my 770.
Is this a thing? I should RMA my 770.
Unfortunately it's only a thing if they don't have a replacement in stock. Sometimes they'll bump it a gen newer or a model up (560 to 570)

Got Asus Zenbook UX303LA to replace Zenbook Prime UX31A which I had to return. I'll be using this until Skylake laptops get released I guess. It's a lot fatter than the UX31A, though the weight is still below 2kg. Nevertheless, It's a nice upgrade, Broadwell i7-5500U (HD 5500) vs Ivy Bridge i7-3517U (HD 4000). The more expensive models had Nvidia's 840M GPU. UX303LB, which I think is newer, has 940M and who knows what. The different models are confusing considering not all get imported here. Still got the same 1080p matte IPS display and backlit keyboard (I was suprised by this, there was nothing on the product description and it wouldn't turn on at first). The build quality is better I think. Adding to the fatness this now has a full-sized HDMI port on left (and three USB ports compared to the two on UX31A). Don't know about the ventilation and cooling yet. The UX31A was quite noisy (the fan would turn on by even the lightest web surfing). I did some 7-zip compressing just now and at least the computer didn't get scorching hot like the UX31A did. The touchpad is a bit better, it has a more prominent click and isn't a loose piece of shit like it was on UX31A (though that was thanks to the people who "repaired" the laptop). The headphone jack is on the right side which is kind of annoying because headphones usually have the wire coming from the left side. The charger has become quite fat too. The one that came with UX31A was suprisingly small, though because it fried I had to replace it, and the new one was bigger. But this is even larger and has no removable plug. Now to reinstall Windows to remove all this crapware and perhaps I can finally start doing some work.
Employer gave me my MSDN account today, pretty much free access to all Microsoft software and OS's. Right now office 2013 is the only useful one but I'm gonna set up some virtual machines later and maybe get some Microsoft Cert's.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/3QvW0gf.jpg[/t] For a 13-inch ultrabook this quite a silly thickness. The parts highlighted by flash is probably how thin the UX31A was. You should definitely start using it if you do. [editline]nobody's going to read this[/editline] Looking at this default background on the laptop, Asus have definitely chosen a perfect angle for the picture.
I haven't read a whole lot into Azure, can you have a VPS through it?
I haven't read a whole lot into Azure, can you have a VPS through it?
Yeah, sure, I guess. Currently I only have a single Linux server running irssi there but you could have a full Active Directory running there and what else.

pomf.se is shutting down. One of the very few filehosters, which were really good. I guess it's time to host my shit myself again. http://blog.pomf.se/post/121058516206/shutting-down
Never seen something working better than RDP. If the video was small enough you could watch it on my old compaq pentium 2 with 64 mb ram running xp. I always thought it was funny that people actually used swefox's image host.
When are you people ever going to learn? Hobby filehosts never last.
And free legit filehosts either end up screwing over their users in one way or another, or do some questionable business.
I host my own stuff, worked out great for me. no limitations and full control of the web server is always a plus.
