Hey, at least Valve released a new game.

It's not a "virus". This is a typical Indian tech support scam, where you call the number, they pretend that your computer is broken, charges you money, and then remotely steals your information by logging into your computer using ammy

I like to let them walk me through downloading and running an exe when I'm on a Linux system.

A number to fuck with. Yay.

This needs to be done on a tech podcast.
Just do it just to fuck with them cause you're on linux.
Is there a windows themed Linux distro around? Preferably XP themed?
I think that would be even better.
If they saw Linux, i'd imagine they'd probably just hang up
Going on a bus trip to Poland, starting on Sunday.
Bus trips are hell, what apps shall I get to not die in boredom? I have gtavc, didn't get gtasa working. I have a usb otg cable but i lack a gamepad, could get a keyboard though.
Movies on Oneplus one y/n?

How would we know? It'll work without a problem, but whether you want to watch movies on a phone screen is your thing.

They're not gonna see a thing until you give them remote access. Which might be difficult given no Linux server.
XPDE though

This is basically the only reason I still have a decade-old desktop with OpenBSD installed.
"Start button? I don't see any start button." - system boots up in vterm mode
"My browser? It's the cat one, I think. Cougar, maybe?" - actually Lynx, but there's Firefox 3 installed too
"Oh no, I think the virus is breaking your program too! It says it's not an excretable file."
"Operating system? Uh... the sticker says Windows 2000 on it, but I think someone changed that later on. It's a Compaq, if that helps."
"My IP address? Let me check... ooh boy, this is a long one, you'll want to write it down. Eff Eee eight zero colon ..."
Sadly and/or fortunately, there don't seem to be too many of those calls anymore, so I've never gotten to do this.

There's still plenty. When I worked for a PC shop last year we'd get multiple people in weekly who fell for it.

What happens when you try to blow the dust out of a laptop using an air compressor[sp](note to self, keep dad away from computer)[/sp]:

What happens when you no longer have a spinning fan in your laptop but you have an AC unit and a few placemats:

Got a monitor mount installed for my Asus. Looks like it floats now! Really awesome. It's great to have the space underneath.

48c isn't bad...is it?
if so i'm fucked, as my laptop's been running at 130-140f since i bought it and i've cleaned all the dust out of the fan/exhaust vents :V
Finally managed to fuck around with VMTools long enough to get it running in my Win2K VM and install the SVGA mode. Internet works great too and Firefox 12 is modern enough to run errything up here. Time to play some Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 3rd Edition
Do any of you have an amazon creditcard? I've been wondering if I should look into getting one. I've never owned a credit card, only paid in full for anything I own. Car, computer, university, etc.

Should everyone with a laptop have those laptop coolers?
I got a simple 10 foot 14awg heavy duty extension cord, like is built into my giant power strip, to connect my UPS to another outlet on another wall. I think my UPS kept shutting down due to some sort of cycle sync problem due to my AC window unit being on the same outlet. The sudden voltage drop caused the UPS to freak out and then drop.
So with it being on a different outlet, it can actually work now. It's neat how I can unplug the cable and still use my machine and just plug it in whenever. UPS's are like magic

Honestly, batteries are pretty magic when you think about it.

Nintendo batteries are definitely. My fat DS from 2005 is on the factory Li-Ion battery and still lasts for 3-4 hours.

My DS Lite has gone for months without a charge and I still pick it up and use it every now and then (I'd use my 3DS for it, if it didn't have awful scaling on DS games).
anyone got any cheap laptop ram they wanna sell me? i'm looking to get a 2gb stick of ddr-2 800 200pin for this crappy MSI netbook.

I've used all mine, sorry. I used the remaining 2GB sticks for a netbook and the remaining one for this D830 to upgrade it to 4GB again. I can attempt to find another 2GB but we'll see.
If any one of you uses, or has used, TigerDirect, reconsider buying from them in the future.

I just hang up, what they are doing is pretty scummy, but i am not gonna bully somebody in india trying to earn a meal.
Its not like they are the source of the problem either, they are just people working at a company, just like every other telemarketing company.

When I evaluated 1 company for a few custom built PC's, had a few emails and calls with 1 company in order to clear any uncertainties and discussing the timeframe. At one point I received an email directed at a question regarding shipping times and their response was "Either you buy it or go away".
Needless to say, we looked somewhere else.

The ridiculous part is that the guy could have just set that person as inactivate, and maybe net a sale later on, instead of losing the sale completely.
Love it when he says "Ever heard of VAR? I’m the value-add.", it's so stupid.
