The ridiculous part is that the guy could have just set that person as inactivate, and maybe net a sale later on, instead of losing the sale completely.
That's the thing about being a salesman. If you are rude and aggressive you are only making it worse for yourself. People won't like you and won't buy your shit. If you are being rude and aggressive to me, I will take my business elsewhere because essentially, you are representing the entire company at this point. It's not salesman X was rude to me. It's Business X has a pretty hostile environment towards customers. I know that people with customer contacts don't have it easy. I have had direct customer contact for First and Second level support for a good 5 years now. I have had contact with both nice and very rude customers. Even if you are getting insulted by the customer, always be polite, apologize and try to steer the discussion towards the customers's goal in a polite manner. Never ever be rude or aggressive. That attitude gets you nowhere, except for the door of your company if the higher ups are informed.
Mine are just straight descriptive. I've got JWDESK, JWAPU, JWTHINKW, JWTHINKL, JWR210
Jwapu sounds like an actual name, like a tribal african name
i regret everything involving this
same
Ever since I bought my domain I have been operating with similar named hardware. Laptop: hintcode-mobile Desktop: hintcode-desktop Dedicated server: hintcode-server My tablet, though, is "nick-tablet" I'm very imaginative.
I just use RUBEN_LAPTOP, RUBEN_DESKTOP, however, I named my iPad "Bert" and my OPO "Henk", just because they're funny names in my opinion. And for all my servers I use "rsv<number>.rubensrv.nl", to keep it simple. Of course, I started at 0 with my first server.
The most creative I get is with drive names and that's all the drive letter's corresponding NATO telephony.
My drive names are just OS, Data, Games, Media, etc.
Printer talk, mine decided the other day to just wake up and do a cleaning cycle, eating the last of the yellow ink cartridge, then every hour it'd wake up to shift the print head around and complain about no ink, even though nobody was using it Can't wait for this thing to cark it so I can buy a basic laser
If any one of you uses, or has used, TigerDirect, reconsider buying from them in the future. https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/39hqwv/_/
Archive of this anywhere? The content got removed.

Naming schemes at home suck.
Archive of this anywhere? The content got removed.
Damn, didn't think to archive it.
My desktop is BLACK_MESA because it's a giant black tower :v: Laptop is COON-XPS because default laziness
I kinda wanna get a Bitfenix Prodigy, but what the fuck should I do with my old case? I have the Node 304 so I could make it into a server but I don't really have any need for one.

Get a PicoPSU for it or use a ITX board with built in DC power supply so it only needs a beefy laptop power brick, then with some jury rigging you can use the ATX PSU space for more HDD's
Mine are just straight descriptive. I've got JWDESK, JWAPU, JWTHINKW, JWTHINKL, JWR210
Mine's called Smokey-PC. Because I set it on fire once.
Wow, is this steam sale a fiasco. The "game" they have is barely working and I can't believe they didn't prepare accordingly if the game puts such a stress on their servers.
I'm uncertain if the game even does anything meaningful
why does this work better and use less resources than the native onedrive client for mac
why does this work better and use less resources than the native onedrive client for mac
Same reason Itunes is a massive turd on Windows.
So I needed a crossover cable, but didn't have any crimping tools lying around. Instead I dug up a 2-pair cable of extremely dubious quality. Cut it, switched the pairs around and soldered 'em together. Plugged it in, didn't work. Then I looked at the cable again and noticed it was wired like a crossover cable in the first place. Fuck.
I'm tempted by a 16GB Thinkpad X250 with the IPS 1080p display...
Same reason Itunes is a massive turd on Windows.
It always has and always will be a massive turd on Windows..
There we go, soldered it back I may or may not have gotten a bit pissed at how fragile the wires were when stripping them and I may or may not have substituted wire clippers for a blowtorch. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] It works fine though.
Mine's called Smokey-PC. Because I set it on fire once.
I read through the entire Hall of Records (The long wall of text in the old claymation adventure game The Neverhood), which is basically a bible story complete with begats, and made a complete family tree of all the characters (about 300 or so) using Graphviz. When I get a new machine, I pick a name at random from the tree. This presented a very neat opportunity when I got my Transformerbook, because there is a tale in the Hall of Records about a beast called Mammur that splits in two:
...a two-sided being which included both genders, male and female, one on either side. It was a colossal being named Mammur who was very proud indeed. It considered itself absolutely complete, lacking nothing and independent even from its creator, Mak Mak. Mak Mak could not stand for such conceit, so he made a huge crowbar with which he pried the being into two parts: a male being named Meen and a female being named Mavi. It took all of Mak Mak's strength to pry the two halves apart. And when Mammur finally split, it sent the crowbar hurtling out into space. As soon as the two half-beings saw that they were no longer a singular whole, they started trying to put themselves back together again, and they have been trying to put themselves back together ever since.
Thus, the hostname for the Windows partition is called Mavi while the Debian partition is called Meen. The last passage also makes sense because the connector between the computer and the dock has developed a fault where it won't always connect all pins. Self-fulfilling prophecy, I guess. It was also a neat thing when I sold my old PC, Numeron, and built my new one which has the same specs but in a mini-ITX case. So I go to look at the Records and find the passage "The first-born of Numeron was Nabris, a clone of Numeron." So that was that settled.
My device names are pretty simple. Ezhik%DeviceName% So EzhikSurface for the Surface, EzhikThinkPad for the ThinkPad, and so on.
