Contrary to what people say about them, the two lenovo laptops I've owned in the Y series were both really good. They normally have upper-end Nvidia cards and run games pretty well, and you can sometimes find them on sale for good deals.
Their build quality is decent and their performance per dollar is great. They're not bad by any means, just not great.
Anything Apple is really not my taste, I don't want to pay for a flashy brand and Mac OS X would not be good for games at all.
a mac is the best hardware, it's convenient, well designed, and you can put whatever OS you like on one
I hope you're gonna use nylon or plastic fittings.

Yeah plastic plugs for sure. The actual fittings that screw into the plugs will be metal though.
a mac is the best hardware, it's convenient, well designed, and you can put whatever OS you like on one
Its' only good if you don't have 128GB of storage. I do, and it's a nightmare.

boxy & matte black or no deal, also see above.

I had OSX running on a HP shit notebook of all things.
Only niggles were fetching a bootloader that would stop OSX bitching when installing about it not being genuine Apple™ hardware and a kext for the wi-fi
Shit's expensive and pretty damn limiting, and if you're a ultrabook fetishist, then there's a big selection nowadays.
Don't buy into the "it just works" propaganda.

To be honest I'd buy a 13" rMBP. I may not be an ultrabook fetishist, but I can certainly appreciate them for what I'd be using a 13" for.

My MacBook Pro has a fair amount of niggles. LCD has image retention, the fan is buzzy at times and scrapes when it turns on after from sleep and the WiFi is atrocious when I use it with Yosemite. It's not perfect at all like they say but whatever, I'm able to get a boot-USB for Yosemite on another non-Mac product if I wished to do so.
Where's my I/O ports?
if you're talking about usb ports, i've never had more than a few on any already built pc i've had -- it's not out of the ordinary for someone to own a usb hub.
boxy & matte black or no deal, also see above.
that's just preference. i like a small or all in one pc on or inside the desk somehow. i'm not talking cosmetically, i was actually talking about how on my mac mini i can turn it over, remove the bottom plate, and upgrade the ram in less time than it takes to get out of an office chair.
Shit's expensive and pretty damn limiting, and if you're a ultrabook fetishist, then there's a big selection nowadays.
i don't see how it's any more limiting than a computer that ships with windows to someone that wants to install linux.
Don't buy into the "it just works" propaganda.
i don't. notice how flagdog says i'm using windows? i like windows more. it's faster, i like it more, and i can customize it to my liking. i'm not afraid to tell a brand to go fuck itself, i just like apple hardware.

The bezel on the 13.3in MBA isn't so bad. But the 11.6in is eh.
Check this bezel out.

Also, like Linus pointed out in a video, the iMac has its microphone placed on the BACK, of all places. On the MBP, the mic is placed very close to the speakers and fans. Not exactly what I would call good designs.
even worse the new macbook that came out with the usb-c connector?
it thermal throttles and will keep throttling till it drops to 0.9GHz per core
they also have bad thermal designs
How the hell can you throttle a core M?

I hate lugging around extra shit for a laptop because they put minimalism over functionality.
Anything above carrying a decent mouse (since all and I DO mean all touchpads are horrible) and the powerbrick means a designer needs to be punished

Even with shitty Dell's you only have to pull a handle to open them and have tool-less access to anything bar motherboard or PSU, it isn't anything new.

Don't get me started on a rant about that, I don't even use windows on my laptop yet it's nigh impossible to buy one without it preloaded.

how does it feel being entirely wrong lol
arguably the only bad thermal designs in apple's current device rota is the MacBook and 5k iMac (but only to an extent). there is nothing wrong with the Air or Macbook Pro.

The point is though that it appears to be a completely unneeded complication of the design.
the structure is different. it's one large part versus two using apple's standard screw head. not really a big deal, especially to anyone with a modern set of precision bits
as far as i see it, at least it isn't glued like the iMac has been
[editline]16th June 2015[/editline]
the real problem with the 2014 Mac mini is not the fuckin access door, it's the soldered ram. something that annoys both Mac Mini and Macbook Pro users

Wifi was fixed in a yosemite patch. and apple do free replacements for panels with retention FYI.

Im already out of Apple Care and almost finished warranty so I dont really care. Yosemite still had messed up WIFI on the new patch, so Im on Mavericks yet again.
what, that's different from the screwhead on my retina macbook?

AKA a part of the reason why I deliberately went for the 2012 mini instead of jumping for the 2014.
The price drop is all smoke and mirrors.

I dont have the time to, so no. It works fine on Mavericks anyway and the IR hasnt worsened at all.
unless you're someone who doesn't want to upgrade their mac mini... being the huuuuge majority of the consumer base for that product
I dont have the time to, so no. It works fine on Mavericks anyway and the IR hasnt worsened at all.
they replace it in the appointment unless your store does display replacements, which they don't in the UK. that's hardly any excuse?
+ going from mavericks to yosemite would have literally zero affect on display retention. mine has very temporary retention of flashing images on both mavericks and yosemite to the exact same extent (which is completely normal for IPS)
i think you're kind of touting your display as having retention when it's really just an IPS...
i know, i think it sucks. but the price drop isn't 'smoke and mirrors' like wickedplayer said in the large scale of things.
as sad as it is, we're a tiny minority :s

I had it checked 2 months later after I saw IR, but Western Computer didnt see it as a major problem.
take it to an apple store, not there. if there's not one near, get talking with apple web support and they can do a 2 day exchange thing AFAIK.
the WiFi is also an issue covered under warranty
[editline]16th June 2015[/editline]
but to me it doesn't sound like your display really has any problem at all
And i didnt say anything about Yosemite causing IR... That was a different problem
EDIT: MERGE AAAA

if there was ever a valid complaint to be had about OS X it would almost certainly be how terrible finder continues to be, and how much worse it's getting. the only thing it has going for it is tabs
[editline]16th June 2015[/editline]
but i much prefer settings access and the core system with OS X. and of course DPI scaling
