Man, OSX Yosemite is so nice and butter-smooth. I'm really tempted to just ditch my Acer and get an rMBP15, but I'm having trouble justifying paying over three times the cost for something that barely constitutes a performance upgrade.
Be a rebel, Hackintosh.
Be a rebel, Hackintosh.
Driver / kexts are a nightmare to find for more obscure laptops though also screw you previous coder of this software it's iterated in the wrong order too
Only time I will ever hackintosh is when I buy a newer ThinkPad or some Dell Latitude. Hoping Final Cut Pro X will run on it that is.
Oh dear what did I wake up to. Social justice advocates do not want to optimise for profit or project success first, see the next point (Besides, the meritocracy really is a lie.) Do you really need strong statistical evidence that maybe poor people and those who somewhat regularly face some amount* of discrimination** might have a slightly harder time using and contributing to open source software (or formally studying programming/CS) because they might need a little more effort and have less money and free time to live their lives? To come back to the first point, even with fully meritocratic hiring, in modern western society women and members of minorities will on average be picked less than they "should" be because they have greater barriers to both gaining and proving their merit. And the social justice advocate's position is that you have a moral obligation to work against that. It doesn't say anything about what is the best hiring strategy for making the most useful product*** or making the most money. *: Argue about the extent all you want, but I think you'll find it pretty hard to prove that in modern society everything is peachy and there is no sexism, racism, homophobia or transphobia to be found anywhere. **: Don't take this to mean "misandry don't real", but it should also be pretty obvious that the groups social justice advocates call privileged are in general less affected by discrimination. ***: Admittedly there's also some arguments to be made that diversity makes for a better working environment and a richer and more, well, diverse collaboration, but it's not the core justification SJ advocates have for their views, but instead a rational argument intended to convince people who disagree with those views - one that is not made here. It doesn't really matter that @elia didn't make those statements in his capacity as a developer; hearing he made them at all is gonna offend some people and push them off anyway. You might say "well that's not his fault, it's not his responsibility not to put people off working with him" - and I would agree - but again this is a subjective moral value. So in short, most of the logical flaws you stated are logical flaws only if you try to combine them with your views. In the context of social justice ethics - and I'm just gonna assume that you agree with me that there's no such thing as objectively true moral values - those statements do make sense. There's of course also a lot of stuff in SJ that is either unproven or disproven, but that's mostly details, and there's a shitload of intellectual dishonesty. But you can say that about most if not all political movements (and it's not like they're monolithic hiveminds either), but much of the core SJ theory would appear to be correct. Also note that the text Cold cited is really just ranting - it's not even making an argument, it just kinda assumes the reader already agrees :v:.

who somewhat regularly face some amount* of discrimination** might have a slightly harder time using and contributing to open source software
Can you explain how race plays into your ability to contribute or use opensource software when you're faceless and nameless on the internet.
Driver / kexts are a nightmare to find for more obscure laptops though
You're not supposed to look for all-in-one kexts fitting your laptop model (as they're often shitty), you're supposed to look for kexts that works with each hardware module not natively supported.
Can you explain how race plays into your ability to contribute or use opensource software when you're faceless and nameless on the internet.
The argument is that people of color living in America are more likely to be poor and face discrimination in school, the workplace, etc. meaning they on average have less time to work on open source software for free, are placed under more stress and have worse access to education.
She accused the project userbase of being homogenous. Not just "one group more prevalent", "homogenous". Even treating that as hyperbole, I would only consider that statement true if one statistical group absolutely dominates the userbase, with a 99%+ supermajority. That is NOT a statement one can make and have assumed accurate.
It is massive hyperbole, I agree. But I don't think that particular aspect makes much of a difference to the point she wants to make in general. I never said they were correct about everything, or particularly honest.
The core disagreement seems to be that SJWs are literally trying to be the thought police, exiling anyone who does not think the way SJWs tell them to think, while the developers consider someone's personal life personal, and as long as that personal life does not affect their "work" life, they are completely separate. I think it is fairly obvious which side in that disagreement has more valid points.
Well yes, the far left is usually averse to the idea of free speech, and it's not like they don't say this (though usually not as openly for PR reasons, but exceptions apply). And that's still an entirely subjective ethical value. There's no "objectively valid or invalid" here. [editline]a[/editline] Do we wanna shut up or take this to PMs or something?
Computers are a magical thing.
I fucking hate computers I wish I'd find another hobby already
my android is rendering webm's really fuckin weirdly they work fine but their colours are weird this is how it normally looks like (preview before playing): and this is how it looks like when actually playing it
I think I've seen that myself, though only once. Does that still happen after reboots, screen rotation etc.?
Used to happen on my S3, I think the hardware just didn't support it, had a lot of video issues on that phone.
yeah im on an s3 too, and rebooting does nothing
I wouldn't mind a video connector with a unidirectional plug, but the same screw-on jacket around the outside to secure it.
Too bad they are mostly in the professional broadcast video industry for modern day uses. i.e. BNC/SDI, Triax

You can just change the extension from .gifv to .webm and it'll work fine.
Anyone know of a decent tablet, Atom CPU and at least 2gb of ram that does not suck? There be allot of crap floating about ya know.
Anyone know of a decent tablet, Atom CPU and at least 2gb of ram that does not suck? There be allot of crap floating about ya know.
I can vouch for the Asus ME572c. 7 inch might be a bit small, but that's up to you.
Man that 9-cell battery was worth it.
How long was it at 100%?
Computers is my life. This really makes me look like some actual fucking nerd who doesn't do anything else. I feel quite sad now.
I enjoy working and using machines, half the reason I'm going to work in IT is because it legitimately feels like the only career path that I would be interested in for many years and feel like I had a strong enough backing to learn the ropes.

My advice specialist on campus found an apprenticeship for some choir boys school. I'm not going for it.
IT would be nice but i don't want to wake up one day being the old computer fixing adult in an elementary school
Well it appears there is quite a few roles that people can transition to, seems you don't have to get bogged down with doing the same thing for the rest of your life should you so choose. I'm personally sticking to the more working with hardware and software side of things because I don't feel confident at all in programming.
Too bad they are mostly in the professional broadcast video industry for modern day uses. i.e. BNC/SDI, Triax
Monitors used to have BNC or hybrid 13W3 connectors which were pretty fucking neato. They would be great to still use but half the dweebs out there would complain it's too cumbersome and confusing or the connectors are too big or something retarded like that. So instead we get to hear them crying over how they snapped their micro HDMI plug off flush with their video card.
Hell BNC is way easier to work with, especially if you use RG174 or similar. Much thinner than HDMI and it locks in place, so no accidentally pulling it out.
I can vouch for the Asus ME572c. 7 inch might be a bit small, but that's up to you.
Have you ever slapped windows 8.1 on it? That's what I intend to do.
This has made me search for a non-electronics involved hobby, the stereotypical of a nerd started to piss me off.
I ended up as a auto mechanic. The future is bright for someone who's got the basics of electrics and computer systems nailed down considering modern and future cars, and I also do know how to use my hands. Though that means I do have to get my hands dirty, I can't get the smell of diesel off my hands ATM.
Bought a Raspberry Pi 2. Have no idea what I'm going to do with a Raspberry Pi 2.
The thing is though if I write a book I'll end up rambling about absolutely nothing or I'll just stay focused on one thing. I used to do drumming and drawing as a hobby and I have no idea why I stopped on the drawing. Drumming stopped cause my kit was fucked from the move to NZ from Wales.
Photography!
Bought a Raspberry Pi 2. Have no idea what I'm going to do with a Raspberry Pi 2.
can you use one to download linux distros?
can you use one to download linux distros?
I could port Hannah Montana Linux to the Pi, maybe?
