when is someone going to make a 2015 miley cyrus linux distro
You can just change the extension from .gifv to .webm and it'll work fine.
Just had a look, looks like imgur chickened out of having everything as H264, transcoding was probably too expensive, so if you upload a WebM, they don't touch it.
Did not know about that.
Bought a Raspberry Pi 2. Have no idea what I'm going to do with a Raspberry Pi 2.
Get RASBMC (OSMC now) and make it a multimedia PC attached to your TV.
Remote is your smartphone. (Even windows phone has 7 apps for this)
I fucking love the shit out of Photography but I don't have the cash to even get a half decent DSLR with what I want out of the hobby. I wish I had my old portfolio cause I'd show that off.
Don't get a DSLR then--grab an older film SLR for next to nothing. Them mechanical clicks are satisfying.
I want to get into filmography/filming so bad.
i want to get in to computers more
i still don't even like building a pc
I'm still gonna attempt to invest one of those Canon Legria G30s. And then if I save up another £500 from my £600, I'll buy one of those pro-grade Sony MiniDV HDV camcorders.
Im contemplating buying the MSI R9 380 or the Nvidia 960 tomorrow. I cant stand playing the witcher 3 on medium/high at 25-30fps on my 6950 1GB.

If I was spending that much, I'd just get a good DSLR and some nice lenses. With Magic Lantern you can get some pretty fantastic video out of Canon DSLRs.

What's Magic Lantern?

Firmware modification for Canon DSLRs allowing the shooting of RAW video and other lovely movie-related features.

That looks all difficult and I'm not really gonna want to fiddle with an expensive DSLR. It's tempting but I don't really want to consider that.

Fair enough. Some of the more high-end DSLRs and even mirrorless cameras can get fantastic video without any modification too.

It's not just fiddling or expenses, it's also the form factor it is as well. Looks uncomfortable imo.

Would you not be using a rig or dolly most of the time?
really wish nikon had something like magic lantern
It's a shame Canon has a bit of a monopoly on consumer DSLRs, I'd love to see more community modifications like this.

I'll probably do at some point but for now I prefer a slight all-in-one in a comfortable form factor.

Fair enough, if it fits your usage then go for it. Just seems like worse value for money to me, that's all. That sentence probably makes me sound like a huge dickbag :v:

Yeah it's just that I'm very VERY unsure what to look for. But as far as I've been aware, I'm not terribly interested in photos which is why I'm not looking at DSLRs.

Oh man, how about a Blackmagic (pocket?) Cinema Camera? Those things look so rad.
Kinda want another 550D from Canon again. Used to use those in high school.
You could see if you can find a grey market import one on the cheap.
Oh man, how about a Blackmagic (pocket) Cinema Camera? Those things look so rad.
Was looking at them but I'm not terribly sure. Whenever I want a video camera, it always needs a manual focus ring, touchscreen and a viewfinder with optional lens hood. If a DSLR had a mount to behave like a camcorder then sure I'd buy it.

I don't know about camcorder style mounts, but some newer Canon DSLRs and Sony SLTs can do autofocus while filming.
[editline]19th June 2015[/editline]
Focus rings are rad tho, if you have a follow focus or whatever.
[editline]19th June 2015[/editline]
I just realized you probably meant you want a focus ring :v:
i'd really like to get in to filming stuff/photography, very irregular money though. i used to be known in the photography thread on one of my other accounts but that thread is a lot bigger now

DSLRs are just often impractical for video. Shitty audio, 4GB limit, no HDMI out while keeping the built-in LCD on, so on...
[editline]19th June 2015[/editline]
And yeah, the form factor is kind of annoying to use for video.
DSLRs are just often impractical for video. Shitty audio, 4GB limit, no HDMI out while keeping the built-in LCD on, so on...
That's why you don't buy a budget DSLR for video. Higher end SLR like the 5D family have much better video quality and features for videos.
If you're serious about video, you shouldn't even be using a DSLR to be honest. DSLR is simply not designed for professional videos.

Yeah I was gonna say, I was going to stick with video cameras for video.

what? the 5d series spits out amazing video
there's really no point in not getting a 5d unless you're going black magic or even red
Anyway, speaking of videocameras, I got a "new" one today.

It works - The tape mechanism is a bit noisy though and the zoom motor no longer works, but I prefer manual zoom anyway.

Oh man, that thing is sweet. I really wanna find a JVC GR-C1 some day

My mom had a JVC GR-45 when I was a little, I remember it quite well. It was the first camcorder I've ever used. Maybe I'll find one again some day.
