Separating your online personas and knowing which mannerisms and inside jokes fit which websites is a valuable skill, which Amiga doesn't have

That is the problem. Small voltage spike and your >$200 PC is fried. Big voltage spike and your house can burn down, so yeah. Need more research

He's a prototype of Microsoft's Universal Shitposting Platform.
But to be honest, who cares. Amiga could've spelled his post differently and this discussion wouldn't have even happened.
Many communities online are much more similar than they realize. The biggest difference between posting on 4chan vs posting here (besides the different injokes, which still bleed into each other anyway) is the adjustments you make when posting with or without a username.

Although perfect understanding of each community's differences and rules does contribute greatly to one's shitposting abilities.
Ideas for a router to get for my grandparents here in France? This one has such a shitty range so mom's gonna buy a new one. If I could choose and I were rich I'd get one fancy Asus story, but in reality the net isn't close to being able to utilize the damn thing.

I didn't even know such a notification existed. I like it!
I didn't even know such a notification existed. I like it!
And that is one of the thing that Windows does it right. I have a broken external HDD enclosure and Windows notifies me with overcurrent condition while Lubuntu doesn't give any notification about it except if I look at the dmesg.
The little cube chargers are 1 amp, I have a 2 amp charger chilling here doing dick all.
Apple chargers are weird. They use a specific pulse pattern to signify that it's an authentic charger, which the device recognizes as a cue to start charging at a faster rate than they would otherwise. The phones themselves are also built to protect the charging circuit, so if your charger's pumping out too much electricity, the charging circuit just shuts down entirely, or charges slower than it would on an Apple charger.
My advice? Go out and buy a $20 cube for your shiny new phone, and stop complaining.
R9 Fury X review embargo is over, discuss.
It's nice.

I guess I'll stay with Nvidia.
I'll probably be getting a 980 Ti as well, for various reasons, but there's some pretty impressive stuff in Fiji. Shame the result isn't that great.
Oh boy, looks like steam's doing the {LINK REMOVED} business again
Now it's censoring basically any link shortener like bit.ly, goo.gl, tinyurl, tiny.cc
man the kindle apps suck
the Twitter app doesn't even work right lol
what's the easiest way to get cyanogen or stock android running on this?

Fuck.

Yes. I am serious. You want to make your phone work? Buy the fucking charger for it.
This is absolutely basic. I shouldn't even be saying this, we shouldn't be having this conversation.

Well, I'm gonna avoid all technical discussion about it and just jump right to the buyers perspective on it. Impressive technology be damned, what do you get for your money?
First off, that cooler is fantastic. It's quiet and cool, a solid job. BUT WITH THAT, the fact OEMs can't touch it and can only rebrand the card... makes me a bit sad. I like the cooler but what if I don't want an external waterblock on the card and just want to run air? I like selection, and frankly the waterblock limits multi-gpu a lot.
Next, card performs well. Sits pretty well in between the 980 and 980 Ti. But it also seems to fit between the two in the price bracket as well. It competes fairly reasonably, but with all that said I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't do more than that, but that might have just been my expectations getting the better of me.
And finally, the part I'm actually really disappointed in is the power efficiency. It's... crap. Looking at full system reports, under load stuff like the 980 draws a whole 100 watts less, even the Titan X is capable of drawing a less (However the difference is more like 30-40 watts rather than 100). I find it disappointing. However, with that established, AMD does have their framerate target control, so depending on the game and your settings you may well draw a shitload less than those cards in reality, but we'd need to see people do some testing and shit on that.
But those are my thoughts. I'm a little under whelmed, I want AMD to do more than this, I want them to give Nvidia *real* kick in the pants, not sit inbetween their cards. At the end of the day, I still think it will be, relatively, money well spent but... Dunno, I wanted more.
It's not the best anyway. It fell kinda short. Wait till DX12 hits and then think about it again otherwise 980 ti rules them all plus it's the same price as the fury x.
That's what I was thinking, the 980 works, is available and my 1440p monitor is already in the mail so let's just go with that one.

Sits exactly beside the 980TI. Like, literally 10% perf difference both ways. Some games are better on the fury, some are better on the 980. Also it's exactly the same price.

my thoughts as well.

With this fucker coming in the fall I'm not sure if I want to jump ship to a card I can actually get my hands on but I probably will.
A homebrew UPS seems kind of... dangerous.
I've been pondering on making that for a fileserver, except with three 12volt lead-acid "alarm system"/UPS batteries in series.
I COULD go with four 12volt lead-acids in series, but then the voltage reaches a level where I'm getting a wee bit concerned, also then I can't repurpose automotive blade fuses anymore with good conscience.
Reason for bumping up the voltage is because then I can get away with using thinner cables without significant power loss.
Biggest problem is implementing the PWR_OK and the "toggle to power on whole unit" feature, although from salvaging dead AXT psu's for parts, it seems there exists controller IC's for that.
But a AtMega328 (or any other decent microcontroller with enough I/O ports and general performance) could probably be used for that, (but it would need to run without any clunky bootloader that would otherwise put a delay on startup) and in addition then there'll be a serial line so it can be monitored live (most likely through a UART to USB IC, or maybe even V-usb if crazy/skilled enough but detail, detail)
I suppose designing a DC-in ATX PSU that can be scaled up/down according to needs could be a EE group project, since my search hasn't shown anyone attempting that while providing plenty of documentation, although the biggest hurdle for scalability would be choosing suitable transformers for the switchmode part of it, depending on the amperage of each rail needed for each implementation.
Wow, the Fury X is a massive disappointment for me. Judging by its specs before release, I expected it to be almost 50% faster than the 290X/390X, but now it turns out it's only ~20% faster than the 390X, can't quite catch up with 980Ti, and only has 4GB of ram which is barely enough for such an expensive card. The only impressive part about it is the water cooler, but that's still not enough to make it worth the price. And the non X Fury will inevitably be a cut down and lower clocked version of Fiji, meaning it will be barely any better than the 390X.
I wonder just how AMD managed to fuck this up. They've created an absolutely huge chip with loads more functional units than Hawaii, based on an updated version of the architecture, and it even has a completely new memory technology with insane bandwidth, and yet the benefits are so tiny. The benchmarks just don't make sense to me. Are the drivers somehow fucked and are slowing it down? Is it because it only has 64 ROPs (it actually has the same fillrate as 390X) - if that's the case then that's seriously embarrassing.
The 4GB RAM has been confirmed for a while now and is a limitation of HBM per Hynix, not AMD
Considering who we're talking about, it's probably drivers. And it will probably always be.
And I was actually holding off on upgrading my 7870 waiting for something good to come out from AMD with all the delays. Then the 300 series turned out to be pure rebrands and the Fury is seriously underwhelming. Looks like I should've just bought a 290X half a year ago.

Or buy a GTX 970/980 and give Nvidia Global Domination.

Hold out a bit longer and see what the R9 Nano brings, they say its 290x performance in a smaller package so it might just drop down prices a bit for current 290x cards.
Personally I find the Nano and the later Fury X2 are what should be interested in, the Fury and Fury X to me feel like a platform test, we might see better later on or maybe the cards are just stumped by poor drivers. Only time will really tell but its a nice move into a new technology.
Baby steps.
