Huh, I think it's pretty simple; account related stuff in the account category, hardware related stuff in the hardware category, add/remove programs in the programs category, things like the system panes in the system category etc. But that's me.
Maybe they will finally dump NTFS and its fragmenting nightmare

They don't need to dump NTFS to prevent fragmenting. All filesystems fragment. Just that others have preventative measures. All they need to do is implement that. Then again with SSDs on the rise, it's a little too late.

Same here, I got used to category view in Vista and now I can't stand using classic view.
Y'all crazy.
Y'all crazy.
It would help if there was a way to reorganize the classic view, I expect it to be alphabetical down (like folders) rather than across so I can never find what I want.

List View?
Y'all crazy.
Madness gives me super strength.
It really is the natural extension. -bla bla bla-
I'm not even talking about classic view, which you would've realized if you read my post (especially the part about network adapter settings being hidden in a side-menu of Network and Sharing center). I'm talking about all these silly menus on the left side of every single control panel, which makes navigation a complete maze as opposed to XP which just took you to the setting you wanted directly.
I'm not sure what you mean "embedded into the menu"? Now you can use the jump lists in the start menu, that's the only real change. And it wouldn't be possible in Vista considering there's no such thing as jump lists in Vista.
Didn't you notice that in Vista, all of your programs are no longer in a separate "All programs" menu, but rather are directly embedded into the start menu, replacing the quick launch shortcuts when you click "All programs"?
I brought that up because it's an example of a nice change in Vista that people did not complain much about, because it was an improvement.
My point still remains, Vista wasn't hated because people were "too cool for change" like most hxc vista defenders seem to think. People don't mind change as long as it's beneficial.

The preventive measures in other filesystems is what makes them fragment very little, effectively preventing consequential fragmentation.
List View?
Yeah, I want List View for the Control Panel.

Uh yeah, that didn't change between Vista and 7, yet everybody bitched about the new start menu in Vista but everything was somehow cool in Win7. Just like everybody bitched about the start menu in XP but then when Vista came they wanted that back?
I'm not talking about classic view either.
It's hard to explain something when you ignore all my quotes and don't ask questions about the parts you're not getting, sorry.
Uh yeah, that didn't change between Vista and 7, yet everybody bitched about the new start menu in Vista but everything was somehow cool in Win7.
Like I said, I've never heard a single person who complained about the new start menu, actually, whether they were using Vista or 7.
The only bitching I heard was "Fucking M$ why'd they remove the run button."
To tell you the truth I would be happy sticking with windows 7 for 5 years or so. I mean new stuff is nice, but why the fuck do I want to pay a hundred bucks every year or so for a new OS when I could just wait until Windows 10 comes out (or some shit name like that).
Well you can, Windows XP should have shown you just how far beyond release an older OS can be supported. Just stay on 7 if that's what floats your boat.
XP is being less and less supported by Microsoft now. And I can't say anything but: Fucking finally.
IE9 won't work, Visual Studio 2010 for Windows Phone won't work, etc...
Also not Microsoft, but Just Cause 2 is also not gonna be supported.
It's about goddamn time this started.
I hope it is. Vista was great and laid the foundation for Windows 7.
You can't live in foundation. You can live in the finished house.
I'm on 34-bit. :frown:
I'm on 34-bit. :frown:
Haha, I got 48 bit.
Haha, I got 48 bit.
Lucky bastard.

Which is why I waited until W7 came out before changing. I saved myself from raging over Vista!

It's actually really early to stop supporting XP, considering it's still the relevant business OS and that XP is still supported by MS for the next 4 years.
I saved myself from raging over Vista!
which is something you would only have done if you were a mindless sheep following the opinions of people on the internet who think copying other people's opinions makes them prtty cll gys
I think the start menu should just go. The only thing I use if for is search. Which is why when I get my computer back I'll make a theme that only has the search box and never finish it.
I never use search, or understood why people use it so much... surely people don't have terabytes of files to dig through on a daily basis. I always know where I put my files. I'm guessing people are just lazy.

Good riddance to ancient rubbish. It had a great run. It's probably the most exploited OS to date. I even stuck with XP until Windows 7 came out. But seriously, I can never go back. People resilient to change their antiquated OS deserve to be left behind and abandoned. XP will die off eventually, and it's quite sad it didn't happen 5 years ago.

The most popular and arguably best MS OS pre-7 is the most exploited OS to date? Is that supposed to be surprising?
There's a reason the OS lasted long - It's not "being resistant to change", it's very simple economics and business logic. Vista required a computer upgrade, and had a ton of driver and software problems at its release. It also wasn't viable on netbooks because of its resource usage (why do you think MS continued to sell XP?) Any good network administrator would not want to deal with these issues, and would just skip to the next version of Windows that actually worked out of the box when things settled down.
It would've never happened 5 years ago; everyone knew that. I'm seeing enterprises *starting* to think about migrating to Windows 7 right now. It would've been completely senseless for Microsoft to drop support for it any earlier than in a few years.
