Yes, XP is still supported, but no more than Windows 7... XP is getting old and support is fading, and that's a damn fact.
My dad has a old XP, jammed with so much shit it refuses to connect to the internet.
Buy it. The driver support for windows 7 is absolutely great. It takes plug and play to a whole new level in my mind. Plug and play in 3 seconds. I was installing a windows 7 machine onto a small business server network with numerous printers and as soon as it configured the network, instantly i was prompted with requests to install drivers. You push the allow button, see a bar zoom across your screen and in 2 seconds its done. It did this for all the printers, even a strange plotter and old parallel printer.
Really, XP has never done that. So im impressed with driver support. Also security is better but i think they reduced the in your face style that they did with Vista. I woulden't call it dumbed down either, i just see it as a big time saver personally. But that could just be my line of work. Also if theres any program that isnt compatible with W7 there is an XP compatibility mode, i haven't checked that out completely yet though.
Don't get me wrong theres still a few things that isn't perfect, but im sure alot of the problems will get fixed in Service Pack 1.
It's absolutely worth it.
Besides Digital River's shitty service, I got Windows 7 up and running in less than a day and it runs all of my games very well. I got a small performance boost from Vista to 7 and it is just more slick and easier to use. New taskbar is sexy.
I used to run COD 4 everything on extra, including 4x AA but recently its been jerking when i move around and quite badly. Yet, fraps was saying i was getting 35+ frames a second =/ so my guess it was the OS which was Vista.
Microsoft planted code in Vista to find good framerates and destroy them.
i have vista but i may go to 7 because it is so much better then everything else
My Windows XP works fine for what I do, I have no reason to update yet.
I installed Windows 7 like 3 hours ago and I'm already in love with it.
