Cutting and colour correction in Final Cut Studio then editing in AAE CS5.
Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 and Camtasia Studio 7.
can you guys suggest some good free ones?
I really hope you are joking...
Anyway, more on-topic than that last statement, Vegas.
I use After Effects CS4 and Vegas Pro 9!
After Effects is for the little kids.
After Effects is better than Vegas if you just want to make a quick cool-looking movie. Vegas is for more professional quality movies. Both do the exact same thing.

There's not many free ones that rival AE and Vegas, sadly.

You're a dumbass.
Anyways, to OP, go with Premiere if you are running Windows and Final Cut Pro if you are going with OSX.
premiere pro cs5, i dont see any reason to use after effects for my school media projects.

I've used both and can't see a single damn difference between them. The only difference is price, and I'd still use AE.
Sony Vegas HD

That doesn't even make sense. You can't see a single damn difference, and yet you would use the expansive instead of the cheap?
There're alot of differences and they're used for 2 different things. Sony Vegas is for composing the clips together and doing simple things. After Effects is for.... after effects! like motion tracking and adding cool effects.

You need to get out of this thread right now.
Serif Movie Plus. Nobody here has probably heard of it but I got it for a tenner in this cheap deal our school was doing. It's good though (usually it costs about £60) and definitely better than Windows Movie Maker.

um what. After effects is animation and composition software. Premiere is for editing actual video. You don't know what you're talking about.
If I was using Windows I would probably go for AVID Media Composer.
movie maker :(
I'll just throw in for those who don't know, lightworks professional video editor is going open source by the end of the year.
Adobe Premiere 6.5 + Audacity for dubbing + Pinnacle DV500 for A/D I/O
If I'm recording direclty to tape or something like that, I'm on the mac using Avid VideoShop as it can't properly compress processed video or handle firewire input.
Adobe Premiere Elements, soon to be upgraded to the sexy Premiere and After Effects CS5.
Sony Vegas is my editor of choice. I do want to learn more about After Effects though. The shit you can make with it makes me go :psyboom:
