Some motherboards are not compatible with using USB keyboards before booting the OS (atleast I have tried that.)
Also doesn't PS/2 send more keystrokes at the same time or something? im sure I read that somewhere.

It can but not all PS/2 keyboards are built to take advantage of that.

Well you would need a fully anti-ghosting keyboard for a start, then you would need some sort of reason to be able to press 20+ keys at the same time...

There's more advantages to PS/2 as well. The commands that get sent over a PS/2 port get handled as an interrupt by the CPU, meaning that the CPU will effectively drop whatever it's doing and process the keystroke. This is important because even in unoptimized (poorly written) games, you don't have to worry about input delay due to no free CPU cycles. Plus there's no polling so the response is as close to immediate as possible(whereas USB usually waits 8ms before submitting the key), it frees up a USB port that you might have otherwise been using, and if I recall correctly the PS/2 port is handled closer to the CPU than the Southbridge (where all USB controllers are), reducing delay even less and working your SB less intensely.
Honestly, everyone should read this guide. You'll learn alot about keyboards in general, even if you're not interested in mechanical keyboards.

Yeah that's correct. I really like the keyboard, the picture makes it look like the lights bleed, and also a bit flimsy. But quite the contrary, it weighs a good 3lbs or so and has a good tactile feel that isn't too springy or mushy. I am pretty sure it uses some type of metal spring like the older keyboards. Keys are also laser etched so you can't rub the lettering off.

Cool, I'll bookmark that for the next time I need a new keyboard.
the usb protocol can only handle like 5-7 keystrokes simultaneously or something

It's not really that simple, since there are cases in which it may do only 3, or if you were on PS/2, more than 6. It all has to do with the quality of the controller, the key matrix design, and if you're using PS/2, which is the only way to get true N-Key Rollover.

It doesn't matter. You don't need to have that many.

Yeah, God forbid you should ever use more than 3 keys while gaming. Because I never want to walk diagonally and change weapons either. In fact, fuck keyboards. I'll just start using a single big red button instead.
The keybord in the OP is very nice.
the homerow and numbers keys can usually do 6 keystrokes, but the other rows might only be able to do 3 or so
try Y I M semicolon
Don't get Saitek keyboards. Their build quality is absolute dogshit. The spacebar failed on both my father's and my Eclipse II within a year.
Get a Model M or a knockoff like above, or if you want a BLUELIGHT keyboard, go with something Razer like the Lycosa or the Tarantula (I have the former, love it to bits)
ye razer is just as bad, mine and my mates both arn't very good, and random moments random keys will stop working until you unplug it and plug it back in, and my mates one just turns off all together at random times.
I'm not too keen with logitech's removal of "unnecessary keys" (like scroll lock or SysRq). Their products are great, but the fact that I can't do a manual crash dump for my older desktop (which I got a logitech ex110 hooked up) anymore frustrates me.
(Ctrl+Scroll Lock+Scroll Lock)
don't rubber domes have a life expectancy of about 4-5 years if you constantly use them
That sounds about right.
Anyways, if you're psycho about looks and you need a "newage" keyboard you might as well go for the 7G from SS. They're also coming out with a slightly cheaper version that will be fully mechanical as well and for $100.

Saw that I would really like to buy it.
The IBM Model M keyboard actually feels good to type on, but don't mind me, have fun with your colorful LED-covered keyboards because those are sooooo worth it.
A company called Unicomp bought IBM's patent for the Model M and started making them new again, and they're black.

maybe oneday i will be able to afford hhkb
So what's a good but quiet keyboard, for a reasonable price on Newegg(ie less than $30)?
I'm talking so quiet that if you were standing right outside my closed door listening you wouldn't know I was in here typing.
Right now I'm using a Lite-on SK-1500C which, badass as it is, is starting to lose the 'l' when I'm typing. I've done the 'take it apart and clean it' bit but it's still a problem. I've had it for years so I know it's time for a new one. This keyboard has a very clicky sound, almost as loud as the IBM Ms on those Youtube videos, I kind of want to avoid that.

You may be able to find a Model M on craigslist or a thrift store maybe.
well the abs m1 can't even walk diagonal while holding shift or spacebar
g15 is still good but if you don't need an lcd you can always get g110
I've looked at the hhkb, why doesn't it have a ctrl key?

Did you even read the thread or are you just assuming that anything with "gaming" in the title is going to be the best?
