i need to cool my pc down by 10 degrees (idle temperature is about 50 because of a busted fan) all while making it quieter and more energy efficient what's the cheapest way to pull all of that off?
What sort of course do you have to take to work on computer etc?
What sort of course do you have to take to work on computer etc?
You have to take a course?
What sort of course do you have to take to work on computer etc?
you don't usually have to take any but getting some A+ certs helps
I feel so sorry for you OP. I'd hate to be in tech support. Dealing with people as a programmer is bad enough. Tech support would be 0xFF times more headache inducing. [editline]03:39AM[/editline] I still get random people asking me to fix their computers, and I try to tell them that I don't know anything about fixing Windows. That almost never works though.
yeah somehow me knowing my way around Linux makes everyone think I'm a Windows expert too
What Course(s) can you take to get A+ Cert?
Do you still study?
@stuky there are alot of books on amazon that are prep books for A+, but most of it is dictonary should should not, and when I took it had alot of old shit in it LOL 2006 A+, I gained all my knowledge from this forum troubleshooting and builing computers then went out and started fixing other peoples stuff, then stumbled upon networking and realize this is glorious!
yeah somehow me knowing my way around Linux makes everyone think I'm a Windows expert too
Somehow me knowing how to make a website makes everyone think I can tell them how to fix something on facebook.
How do you know when to stop wiping?
Have you ever fixed something by simply re-installing windows and dragging it out so the customer pays more for "labour".
In general, how much do you charge for different services? Such as data backup, virus removal or whatever it is you do.
Somehow me knowing how to make a website makes everyone think I can tell them how to fix something on facebook.
Thats because they're people who aren't technical.
Yeah cause computer technician's are genius. I take TAFE course I are smart.
I suggest you bring a 1 tb hard drive to work for free porn. Also you shouldn't really have been surprised about the amount of laptops they are like the number one sold type of pc, also most people don't damage their desktops by dropping.
I also suggest you read up on the Data Protection Act. You seem to have forgotten about it.
I don't deal with the customers as much as the salesmen do. It's not my job. My job is to creep around in the back and fix the shit that goes in.
Lucky you... I've done PC repair shop work, and I was not only a saleswoman, but also the repair tech, the phone operator, stock person, and had to manage a HUGE (fucking enormous, 20K+) customer database offline. So I had to deal with all sorts of bullshit. I wish we had done the repairs in the back room, would have saved me so many headaches... I really hate doing the phone stuff the most. I had one customer that came back in when we were already more than half-way finished with their PC, and demand it back, and have us "cancel" the work we've done. It's impossible to just "magically reverse" OS upgrades and such, so the raging customer refused to pay for the work done on the machine, and he stormed out with "Fine, keep the shitbox for all I fucking care! FUCK!!!" in which he proceeded to slam our door and take off in his redneck rig. I have gotten alot of free computers this way. we kept the machines for 30 days, and if they refused to pay for the work done after that, I got to take the PC home and keep it, after wiping the harddrive with a 7-pass erase procedure from within the store. Overall, I really hated the job for as much as I loved fixing PCs. Now I do it freelance, and I'm much happier now. :buddy:
In general, how much do you charge for different services? Now that's good money. The guy was a HUGE porn addict, and quite a good returning customer. He gave us good business every other month or so.

I share your pain, did Help desk for a small company over the summer, why won't outlook do this and where is word. is what I heard all the
I fucking want your job. All I've ever gotten are shit retail jobs and the only reason the computer store in my Aunt's town wouldn't hire me is I don't have A+. Seriously, I took the preclasses for that exam, and I aced at 98% without even studying, easiest shit ever, I just couldn't afford to throw .5k at an exam that doesn't even guarantee me a job, when school is gypping me 5k for housing, and more for tuition.

Ya feel me?
I say try to get your A+ as soon as you can. Its pretty damn basic. Its a foot in the door, but the most it can qualify for you (certification alone, no work experiance) is probably Bench PC shops, or a T1 Helpdesk. You can also contract out, you'll get trivial crap. Like IMACs. But I recommend you getting other certifications to further yourself. Also, if you just know how to 'fix' computers by hardware challenges.. you still got a road to go. I suggest getting you a test bed pc and try break/fixing it.
What sort of prior knowledge did you need for the job. Aside from the simple, know what a computer is and how it works.
What's the silliest file you've seen on a computer?
