the smilidon is kind of ugly, but the green bits inside it just push it over the ugly cliff.
So I finally opened my computer, only to see this...

In a little need of a cleaning (I hate dust!) and cable managing, right?

heh, if you think that's a lot of dust, you should see mine :v:
You wasted your money on the 975, I'm running a 920 @ 3,8 ghz
But if he wanted to overclock he could go much higher than you can.
But if he wanted to overclock he could go much higher than you can.
like he needs to do that in the next 3 years!?.
i think he will keep it at stock for now to spare it and when games catches up to it i'll see to it that it get's Overclocked and optimized properly.

A 975 and that piece of crap, low ventilation case? Very odd combo, hell even so odd as to make doubt the credibility of having a 975. But that's me, the skeptic.

yeah it's running very hot, when my lappy is besides it it just burns.
Maybe he inherited a large ammount of money and he wanted to upgrade his crappy computer quickly. It all adds up : he bought the priciest CPU, graphics card and used the crappy ram from his old rig since the new ones didn't ship yet.
He was also too lazy to move it all to the new case which came the next day.
so you advice him to swap the 12 gb gddr3 ram?

Perhaps to something better than 1333Mhz stuff. Maybe 1600+, 2000 if he really pushed it.
Though the timings might be sweet so it's all good?

that does make sence, but what the hell are we doing up there? last i checked you were totally badass MoFokker if you had 800mhz?

You haven't checked in a while have you ;)
DDR2 tends to top out at 1066Mhz for non-enthusiast kits. Though 1300Mhz ones were available.
DDR3 Tends to start at 1333, 1600 is the norm. 2Ghz is crazy shit right there.
Also timings, they range from CAS6 (Read: Sick, at least at these speeds) to CAS9.
Average is 7 generally for most kits.
I might change my case when bored, but I ain't touching the RAM, no reason why to go faster or change them, they work completely fine.

There's two big airvents on the other side, the fan ain't just facing against a closed case.
Although I will change the case later.
I was around fixing someone's computer for free, and their brother offered me $25 to give his a service, so I popped off the side and HAHAHAHAHA
Everything was caked in dust. There were mounds of it. I could hardly see the graphics card. I took a picture of my phone, I'll post it when I find my card adapter. But yeah then cleaned it out, defragged his HDD, repaired his registry and ran ccleaner. For $25

Ive had much worse. One time I opened the side of a case to find little roaches everywhere. There was probably 200 of them in it.

I've got a pretty decent story. There is a kid that hangs around with the group of people I do, and he is the only kid in the group that isn't into computers. He asked another friend and I to do some general maintenance on his computer one day. We took the computer to my friend's house and opened it up, ready to vacuum. Upon opening we found 3-4 pills (no clue what they were), a cigarette butt (his mom and brother smokes), cigarette ashes, and about a half inch of dust on everything.

Hm. A good competitor in the stock boring case category, but I've got an XPS 410. It's basically a white box. Side windows? Wuzzat?
did penumbra just happen to be there or did you put it there?
did penumbra just happen to be there or did you put it there?
Just happened to be there. I was gonna move it but was too lazy.
Okay I am pretty much finished, I just need to paint the PCI slot shields (they're not installed at the moment):

I'll also take better pictures tomorrow, I cba to mess with my camera/find better lighting right now.
looking good
I don't think you'll ever rest until they find a way to power everything without wires, even then you'll find something to work to improve
looks so clean compared to mine.
probably gonna end up doing some cable management similar to that that this weekend.
just a question, where did your sata cables and fan connectors go?
power everything without wires
When that day comes, ahhh :allears:
When that day comes, ahhh :allears:
well it's all possible, it would just take more space(and ALOT more money) to do. radio waves are energy, and that can be converted.

Well, the SATA cables are at the bottom plugged into those purple slots. I have my HDD mounted backwards, and in that shitty lighting you can't really see the other one plugged into the DVD drive (but it's there :v:). I have my two front fans plugged in behind the motherboard tray, and I sleeved the 3 wires for that rear case fan. It's plugged in right by the 12V connectors, you'll be able to see it better when I retake those shots.
[editline]10:35PM[/editline]
There's also a couple small spots I need to touch up on those drive cages, I'll do that tomorrow.
[editline]10:36PM[/editline]
Overall that was a fun project...but it took much longer than I had hoped. Every time I was actually going to sit down and work on it - something came up :argh:
you need black screws too
you need black screws too
That's actually something already on my list. I'm going to replace those with hex bolts, although I need to go stop by the hardware store first and pick up a smaller size. I've got some already but they're too large.

Also, they just opened up the high Ghz frequency so that you can have wireless (video sent to your) monitors.
Wireless sata? Who knows. It's absolutely feasible.

Yes, but it takes more energy to convert that frequency into power.
oh no my brain's gonna get fried
This is my dads rig.
