Either slot will work, I think.
There's a module blocking the top slot, I'm assuming it's an ASUS ExpressGate SSD card (unless it's an actual SSD card that can be used for storage).

Nah, both slots should run at 16x electrical (or 2.0, whatever the hell his mobo supports) if he only has one card in.
After googling this shit, the module forces the second slot to run at x16 (otherwise it's x8 + x8). The card has to go in the second slot. Talk about a fucked up design.

I think so, I don't have much experience w/ AMD boards, although the ASRock innovations/fucked up designs seem to be rubbing off onto ASUS (ASRock was spun off from ASUS around 2000 I think).

It's on a center pivot at the top so it balanced itself when I took the box away.
And guys, stupid question, but is the 955 Black Edition not supposed to come with thermal paste? Mine didn't.
It should be on the heatsink.
Usually with stock heatsinks it's a preapplied pad on the base of the heatsink.
Personally, I scrub it off and apply AS5 (Or some other nice brand or Silver Based Paste)
Also when you get it all set up I would like to know how those speakers perform, i'm thinking of buying some.

I have an older generation of X-540s (the ones with rounded edges) and they've been working great for years. I never have them cranked up all the way, but the bass and the range of sounds they can play is great for their small size.
