That sounds pretty spot on actually. Anything else I should consider that would fit the bill? Generally if they're on the more bassier side that's what I'll be looking for. I like large headphones too.
You can always fuck around with the equalizer to make it push more bass

Please don't hurt me guys but if you're looking for decent bassy headphones you can consider beats solo 2's as well.

build quality seems to be questionable though.
I'm picking up a new pair of headphones on Black Friday now that my old Steelseries headset broke :V
I'm thinking something with Bluetooth so I can walk around a bit or bind it to my phone if I wanted to.
Been eyeing the AKG Y50BT. Got pretty good reviews. Anyone got experience with it?
I'm gonna also pick up an Antlion Modmic to put on it whenever I wanna voice chat and I can just detach it when I want the freedom. If anyone has experience with the Modmic, is a Uni-directional one fine?

Ended up getting a pair of Sony MDR-XB950BT. They were cheaper on Black Friday

Hmm, seem pretty good if not a little small, since I'd rather something that completely wraps my ear. if only the studios weren't so much more.

Oh actually, one other thing I should probably of asked a while ago. If I want the best audio I can get from my games, how should I be connecting my headphones to the PC? Do I need a fancy amp or anything?
M50x headphones have incredible detail and are well balanced. Tight bass, clear mids and highs. However, they have zero sound stage. They basically play the music in your brain with crazy detail. It depends on what you're looking for.
Thats what I had heard and not exactly what I need in an all-rounder atm- manipulating the stereo field is one of my favorite things to do. M40X is a nice price though and might leave me more money to even upgrade to a 6i6 and get myself a bunch of extra inputs. Or maybe a nice tube preamp rack for my synths idk.
I've also heard good things about the KRK KNS8400's being just dead on in terms of frequency response. Have you heard anything about these or just stick with the m40x?
[editline]25th November 2015[/editline]
Anyone used a Bravo Audio v2 hybrid tube amp and have anything in particular to say about it? I'd still use my interface outs for. Monitoring but could use the amp for pleasure listening or maybe even run my very sterile rompler through it to give it a brush o those lovely harmonics
After much money savings and some peculiar timing, I ended up ordering a pair of Zebra cupped ZMF Omni's that launched today. It's only been a few hours and I'm already tired of waiting for them! (time till shipping is 6-8 weeks)
I'll see if I can give a quick rundown when I finally get a pair within my hands!

I'm really jealous. I hope you enjoy it!
Can anyone recommend some decent in-ear buds that are around the $30-40 mark? I was looking at Sennheiser CX 300 II.
Is there anything else that can beat those for pretty basic use? (Riding the bus, walking around campus, etc?) Listening mainly to the generic "top 40" music.
Sup ya'll, looking for a new pair of over ear headphones, I posted over on r/headphones and head-fi, but I like to get everyones opinion here too so.
Budget - $350 Hard
Source - Asus Xonar D1 Soundcard, I'd like an DAC/Amp combo
Requirements for Isolation - No, prefer open ear
Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized over ear
Preferred tonal balance - I'm kind of at a loss here as a newbie, I'd like something that has strong bass and sub-bass but isn't overwhelming and sacrifices clarity for it.
Past headphones - ATH-AD700, amazing soundstage, comfort, great all around headphones
Preferred Music - Rap, Atalanta style Trap, Trance.
Just want something that would make the lows on these types of songs slap and still be able to listen to stuff like Trance.
https://youtu.be/ePgHlr5fkNc
https://youtu.be/9jDiAcqbO0c
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Bass, just overall clarity
I'd get a Beyerdynamic dt880 250 ohm. Its main "complaint" is a touch heavy on the bass but they're fantastic headphones. To fit in your budget you may need to find a schiit magni/modi stack second hand.
I dunno if I'll be able to get the Schiit's anywhere for cheap. I'd prefer to buy now with all the sales. I've heard good things about the HE-400's but I can't seem to get a consensus difference between the i's and s's.
Would I need an amp to drive the 35 ohms ones?

These are about 50$ with a promo, and I hear its the best bang for your buck sub-100$. What ya'll think?
Hey, well my previous headphones took a dump so I'm in the market for a new pair. I figure now is a good time to buy with all the deals going on but I could use some help since I don't know a whole lot about headphones.
Budget: $150
Country: USA
Isolation: I like isolation but it's not a deal breaker
Purpose: Gaming, TV shows, music
Music Tastes: rock, pop, trance
Previous Experiences: Creative Aurvana Live!
Comments: I like over ear headphones and I'm looking for something that would be comfortable for hours of use. I want something that will sounds nice for the price.

Sennheiser HD 598's for sure. They are open, but I've worn a lesser version of them for 12+ hours straight no problem.

They look to be pretty good but how bad is the leakage? Like would someone be able to hear in the next room over if the door was closed?

I never had any complains from my absurdly sound sensitive ex. But if you're sitting near someone they're going to be hearing a decently muffled version of what you're hearing.

Alright cool man thanks. I don't think they'll be a problem then.
Good laptop/portable dac/amp combos? Apparently, schiit fulla isn't very good (has problem with usb noise) and it's hard to get Fiio's for a fair price in canada.
Been a while since I posted here, but with the holidays coming up I figured I would probably be in the market for a new pair of headphones.
Budget: <$300
eBay: No
Source: Onboard Soundcard (ASUS)
Country: US
Isolation: Moderately important, but not especially.
Purpose: Games, Music, Movies.
Music Tastes: Basically everything.
Previous Experiences: ATH-M50s.
Comments: Really, I'm just looking for a new pair because while I've had them for going on 5 years n ow, my ATH-M50s clamp my ears super hard after about 5 hours of use, and make my ears start hurting, so I'm looking for something comfortable to wear for very extended periods of time, but matches the versatility and quality of the M50s without being too bank-breaking.
Went off and decided on the Denon AH-D2000's.
Budget: <$100
eBay: if theres a large discount why not
Country:US
Isolation: open preferably, although i can deal with closed
Purpose:gaming and some music
Previous Experiences: 5 dollar no name headphones and a used pair of turtle beach earforce x11s
Comments:i'd like something with good build quality as i can be a bit rough with my headphones sometimes. i'd also like something decently balanced although leaning on the bassy side as i like bassy music
Does anyone know of a shop or site that ships Audio Technica M50x cables to the Netherlands? Or perhaps a store/site in the Netherlands. The official site only ships to Germany, the UK and France and only found one other site which has fucking crazy shipping costs (either $40 and some at the door, or ''all-inclusive'' $80 (for one fucking cable))

The Sennheiser HD 558's should be in budget right about now. Think I saw them on sale for $87. I've been pretty damn rough with my 518's without issue.

Can you not just use any old 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable? (I really don't know)

I'm not completely sure, but the M50x uses a locking mechanism to lock the cable into the headphone so probably not.

Was thinking about getting these for gaming with a half decent amp
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-HTF600-S-Stereo-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B004MMEI8W
or these
http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Acoustic-Detachable-Durable-Headphones/dp/B007SP2CO2/ref=pd_sim_23_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=41HLwjRxwYL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1MF37HMAW9T7W32XQZFN
You definitely don't need an amp for either of those. Take a look at the Samson SR850/Superlux HD668B. Or the JVC HARX700's if you want to spend a bit less.

Just bought them for $102 after tax + shipping. Sale just went live:http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-598-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0126HISOO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1448611478&sr=8-2&keywords=sennheiser+hd+598+case

Me too, can't believe it. Waited all day to see if m40s would drop more and almost got the m50s with $25 gift card but decided to wait.
Glad I did too. They'll be at my dorm tomorrow and I get back Sunday evening. I'm just waiting to snipe an audio interface now since a 16bit audio mixer is not going to cut it
Soooooooooooo hyped though. Soundstage and precision sold me
Yeah that's the best deal I've seen for them since last black friday when they went on sale for $80 for about 5 minutes before they sold out. If I wasn't aiming for some DT880's I'd pick them up.

I would probably get this if it wasn't open-back since everyone around me would hear what I'm listening and if I didn't already buy a M50x for $179 some weeks ago.
