So what should I be looking for then? Haven't really spec'ed out headphones lately.
personally I use

and a pair of
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009S333U4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
both are very good and I can easily hear behind me, and in front
I just want to replace a 2 channel stereo with surround sound wireless headphones. PC already has bluetooth, so if I can do that for under $100...
7.1's are pretty much either 2 speakers that pretend that they are 7, or 6 speakers that are shitty and sound inconsistent as hell.
I know this is a headphone thread but I need some speakers for my computer and i have a budget of $60 usd
Are you looking for powered or passive monitors? Would you happen to have a receiver? Would you prefer a space saving size? Or would something a little larger be possible?
Hd558 or SHP9500, both under 100 on amazon. Both open cans. I'd lean on the shp9500 based on previous experience, and the 558 because of sennheiser's track run.
If you extend your budget quite a bit, the fidelio X2 can be purchased $145 used from amazon because of some cosmetic defects with the latest batch. But at that price, it's a steal.
Im also looking to get a HD558 for gaming and music, however would i require a sound card with headphone AMP to get full potential? If so, would a Xonar DG do the job?
By the way, i heard some people mod them by removing the foam tape, to make it sound even better, anyone tried that?

With a headphone impedance of 50 Ohms, the HD558 should perform just fine without an amp/dac. But the addition to a matched amp and dac allows peak performance.
If you wanted a percentage value, I'd give it an arbitrary 5% "truer" if it was properly amped/dac'd. Whether you want to sink the extra dosh for 5% is up to you.
I use a sennheiser hd598 and a modmic for gaming and I can clearly hear directional movement.
I'm liking my current Beyer990 and Samson Go-Mic setup. Not sure yet if I want to bump to the snowball ICE or buy one of these Samson's. (The one I'm using isn't mine)
I got my VModa BoomPro today, extremely happy with it! Voice is super crisp and clear too.

The cord is a little scratchy on clothing and the volume adjustment/mic switch is too far up but for $30 all on a single cord it's worth every cent.

I wonder if something similar is out there for the M50x..
Can we talk about these holy shit

If you stretch the budget a bit to $80 and you don't mind cutting your own speaker wire, this passive stereo system should be able to smash anything you throw at it. With 6.5" woofers, the speaker boxes are pretty large, so disregard if you don't have the space for them. Comes with x2 9.5' 20 gauge speaker wire.
The treble is noted to be a little shrilly, so you can toe them outward at bit.

Ok thanks
The more shit I buy from massdrop the more I realize how shitty they are. Bought some massdrop exclusive akg headphones last month and they were blown out of the box. Did another group buy on a mystery box for sennheiser iems. On check out they ask if you want android or apple headphones. I asked for android and when I opened the box today I pulled out a pair of iPhone CX 5.00i's. :why:

Oh.
Apparently there's some issue and they're telling everyone who got the wrong pair to contact support.

B&O have extremely well designed products, but I hear that they are not very good value for money.
I wonder if something similar is out there for the M50x..
Supposedly you can just hit it with a 1/4" drill bit to ream out the locking cams and do the same thing. You could also cut out the old jack since the design can take a standard 3.5mm jack too.
I need something that will fit on a small desk
I haven't heard them personally, but based on zeospantera's review. The Micca Covo S's should be a lot more suitable for your desktop environment, but with a 3" woofer, they're a bit basslight. The Covo's feature a concentric driver, so there's a tiny little tweeter in the middle of the woofer. And if you decide to upgrade your system to 5.1, you can use the Covo's as mini surrounds. How cute.
They're passive speakers, so an amp is still required. You also need to purchase and cut speaker wire, but it shouldn't be too bad, and there's plenty of videos on youtube on how to do it. I'd recommend some 16 gauge speaker wire since they shouldn't be travelling too far.

In other news, I ordered a Gustard H10 amp from China on Monday and they'll be arriving tomorrow! What an age we live in!
Gustard H10 just arrived at my door, that's some really fast delivery right there. I know that it'll take about 100 hours to burn in before this thing settles down. But I couldn't help listening to it right now.
Everything digs so deep into subbass. I wasn't expecting that my AD900x's could go this low. But when you pour 2.7w into very efficient cans, anything can happen. The next few days are going to be very interesting.
I had the Sennheiser PC 350 SE for X-Mas, tried them out today by playing FLAC encoded audio, and discovered they sound... awful? It's washed out, dull. Synthetic. Hard to explain.
I have to press the earphones on my head to get sound close to what I had with my old shitty 40€ Plantronics headset, but it's still very underwhelming for the high price.
They are connected by 3.5mm jack to the back panel. The model has an impedance of 150Ω. The computer has an on-board Realtek HD chip. Do I need a sound card? An amp? Or should I just go with another pair?
You'll probably need an amp for those. Especially with the symptoms you're saying.

FiiO E6 is a good cheaper one. Quality can go up though if you budget is higher. The FiiO SHOULD do everything you need quite well though.

I normally use JVC's XX headphones. Does anyone have any other recommendations for something similar (affordable, fairly durable, good bass)?

KZ ED9? they kick ass with etymotic or comply tips. Unless you mean the on/over ear ones... Can't think of anything really. Maybe the harx700s?
Anyone had any experience with Somic phones? Was gonna get the mm185 and a clip on mic. Tired of keyboard ninja-ing in team shooters.
bought my first pair of iem's two days ago ( shure 215) was nice since i needed something more portable and my dt 770 are pretty precious to me but they are annoying to carry around
well...

within a couple hours i stepped on them
they ended up going on sale for $90 cad today and i was going to get them since i can't wait long enough for shure to replace them ... but... lady luck starting smiling at me

$550 buds for $275 cad I took a gamble since i bought it based off reviews and well I have zero regrets this is well worth the money I'm surprised IEM's can sound this good.... these are also surprisingly super comfy
Any advice on doing the Kramer mod on my KSC75? Should I just wing it? I've access to a drill press, but I'm not so sure.
So I'm looking for new headphones. I'm eyeing the Sennheiser HD518 but I was wondering if any of you here know a better alternative.
Budget: +- €100,-
eBay: Maybe
Country: The Netherlands
Isolation: Over-ear
Purpose: Gaming (hearing directional sounds in CS:GO is important) and film
Music Tastes: Rock and everything around it
Previous Experiences: Sennheiser HD 212
Comments: Detachable cable is also a must

SHP9500 if you can find it.
SHP9500 if you can find it.
Currently nowhere available. Last time they we're was 18 december though, so I may be able to buy one somewhere in January.
Are they that much 'better' than the HD518's?
Looking for a good pair of wireless headphones. Doesn't need to be anything fancy. Less than $100 please.

I'm afraid that you won't really be able to find good wireless headphones for under $100 (unless you want a ghetto setup with a mpow bluetooth receiver. Maybe someone will come here and shows a good model though) but for $120 the Sony XB950BT is pretty good.

If you can't get the SHP9500, the HD518 is still a very good buy. Other than that there is also the Takstar HI2050
