What did you get? Always nice to hear opinions on products.
The Panasonic RP-HTF-600-S. They're super comfy, which is weird since every set of headphones I had tried before these grated on my ears after wearing them for more than 2 hours. I think it's mostly due to these ones actually fitting OVER my ears instead of resting on them. The band is also super nice since it doesn't slide around while I'm laying down and wearing them like something cheaper might. The actual sound is probably the best I could get for the price, which isn't bad! Definitely has more clarity than my speakers, but doesn't cancel out too many outside noises unless you're really cranking music or the like which is pretty much the one downside in my opinion as my house is pretty noisy (sat next to a freezer, a fridge, and a vent). But yeah, for the price of $30 that I got them at, definitely worth a buy if you want nice, cheap headphones.
Hd650 received, after the coin mod and foam mod. The sound stage widened and the highs are a lot crisper. They could potentially be a little brighter than my Ad900x's if that can even be possible. I love it. [editline]when[/editline] Time to order some dynamat!

Metal backed monitors also have a nice weight to them.
One dynamat mod on hd650's later, the sub bass is really controlled and deep, with a small bleed into mid bass. It's a completely different animal on songs that already have an articulate sub bass.
God I want some 650's
God I want some 650's
It'd definitely be one fine investment if you decide to pick up a pair. I'd recommend an amp with these cans though, running them off of my phone, the dynamics become squished and the sub bass is not as coherent compared to using a dedicated amp. The last thing I need to finished my build are opamps I ordered from Australia which should be arriving in a week. A full boat of Burson SS V5 opamps.
Yeah I've got a FiiO e17/e09k combo for my DT990 250ohms
Yeah I've got a FiiO e17/e09k combo for my DT990 250ohms
[editline]when[/editline] Coming from a pair of AD900x's, the switch from bright headphones to the dark and laxed hd650 was certainly a jarring experience. But after the mods were applied, it was like a breath of fresh air. The cans opened up and I was able to acclimate to the sound sig really fast. Besides that very minor mid bass bleed (maybe 1-2 Db too much for my tastes), music just sounds right. I would say that if you wanted to try out the hd650, you can always grab a used pair from amazon for under $350, unmodded of course. If you don't like them, you can just return them. But if you do like them, modding will make them sing.

Any headsets you folks would recommend for both PC and Console gaming? Yes yes I've heard a million times not to use a headset for PC because of sound quality and such, I don't care. As long as it sounds decent and I can use it for ps4 as well then I'm set. Personally I was planning on buying the Sennheiser PC 363D headset but I'd like to hear some opinions.

I got a a Plantronics Rig 505 during black friday. I'm really happy with it. Now I use my ugly repaired Playstation Gold Wireless headset at work. Mic sucked anyway.
HyperX Cloud
I'm actually trying to stray away from those considering I have a pair, I sent it in for RMA and they somehow didn't fix it... twice. The mic part was creating a lot of static that everyone else could hear so I sent it in for RMA, got it back and the mic just didn't work at all. I emailed them about it so they sent me a spare mic which I just got today, still the same problem.
I'm trying to find my girlfriend a new setup, she's been using my Corsair Vengeance 1500's for quite a while and likes them for the most part but as per the gaming headset standard the cord has broken. She's said she likes "how big and bulky they are", I'd like to get her something with a VModa mic but she can't have the extra length added to the headphone cord of an adapter required by a 2.5mm jack so a 3.5mm jack on the headphones seems to be the requirement. She's expressed a preference to closed for sound isolation but I know she's never worn closed headphones in her life and her ears are sensitive to pressure, elevation changes and such. The Corsairs are semi closed though. The only thing I can seem to find is the VModa LP Crossfades and the Phillips SHP9500's. A decent gaming headset isn't out of the question but the only "gaming" headset that ever lasted more than a year without breaking a cord for me was the Turtle Beach X1's from way back when they were actually decent quality.
Budget: 40€ eBay: Nope Country: Italy Isolation: Circumaural (Preferably super-comfy) Purpose: Playing videogames, watching movies Music Tastes: Random crap Previous Experiences: Cheap, junk headsets. Comments: I just want a pair of headphones which sound fine and can last me quite a bit, I'm tired of changing 15€ headsets every few months. If you could suggest a good, cheap microphone for 10-20€ to go with them, that'd be great.
I lost my zero audio tenores and bought some no name 8 dollar buds till i get something better. I know i said the tenores were overhyped and stuff but holy shit, i had forgotten how horrible generic earbuds sound. I kinda miss them now.

And they feature a male detach so you can daisy chain cables and mics onto it if you want. (though it might look a bit funny) To cut down on the treble a bit and increase comfort, hifiman velor pads from their direct site are a perfect fit, but that's a small cost bump. [editline]when[/editline] You can also pick up a virtually new pair of Takstar hi 2050 from amazon uk for around $35EUR. I think shipping from uk to italy about $9EUR, but I might be off a little. Non-detach cable. Makes finding the right headphones a whole lot easier. In terms of what's available, shp9500 + boompro would be my choice unless she really wants the isolation. They have almost no clamp and it's like wearing a cloud. Probably the most comfortable headphone I've ever worn.
My favorite "gaming" headset is my steel series Siberia's. Had them for 3 years and they still work, I just felt the need to upgrade.
I ended up getting Sennheiser Game One's, broke pretty much what I wanted to do but they can't be bad and they're on sale for $150 at least... I really wanted to get the Phillips simply because if she didn't like them she could just have my HD518's. Oh well, I'll have to give them a try and see how they compare against the cheaper 518's.
Budget: ~£100 Country: UK Isolation: Closed Purpose: Music mainly, some movies tv and gaming Music Tastes: Hip Hop, R&B, Pop Previous Experiences: Sennheiser HD201 (current headphones) Comments: I've been looking at the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X, but I'm not sure if I will be able to hear the computer static from my pc more so than I can now. So I would like to have a look at a decent, cheapish DAC
Got my 2 dollar mic in today and went to make my DIY headset according to a guide I found earlier in this thread. [t]http://i.imgur.com/gFVR6km.jpg[/t] It works great and surprisingly enough the mic sounds even better than my slightly more expensive Zalman mic. Got another kit for my friend, who will be doing the same thing as soon as he gets his headphones.

http://flash.newegg.com/product/N82E16826106515 I guess she might buy me the SHP9500's now too, I'll have to experiment with drilling out the locking cam on her headphones since it's a little annoying to try to get the 2.5mm adapter into the jack inside my headphones.

But if you do get static or just want a dac, the £62 Fiio E10k is a usb powered dac/amp combo that will be able to push the m50x's with ease. [editline]when[/editline] Oo, I've been saving this visual representation for just the occasion.
Oo, I've been saving this visual representation for just the occasion.
pretty much bought the e10k just for the bass boost with the 598. that and the fact that these headphones are basically weapons when directly listening from my pc unless system volume is under 5%.
Just ordered a pair of xiaomi piston 3's.
Ooooo those look nice! Wouldn't mind hearing opinions on those.
Speaking of, I recently ordered a KZ ATE
With all this dynamat spare, I kinda went on a modding spree. I put dynamat and polyfill into my NVX XPT100's, adding bass and space. But that's not to say the bass is sloppy at all. Before the mod, I'd describe them to be light, almost anemic, but now, the bass is very tight and controlled. And it hits... Hard. They're probably the most open sounding closed can I've heard so far. The treble is still a bit sizzly, but because I'm used to a bright signature, it doesn't bother me too much. I also popped my ATH M50x's open and applied dynamat inside the left driver, getting rid of that mid-bass bloat and cleaning up that sub-bass distortion. The bass is just a tad lighter, but it's definitely a lot cleaner. I then took a spare hd650 headband, rubber-banded it on top, and swapped the pads out for brainwavz hm5 pleather pads. They're so mega comfy now it's ridiculous. Because they're my sister's cans, I need to get her impressions first before I continue. [editline]when[/editline] The modded side has tightened up a lot the bass decay that made the m50x's "fun" sounding. It's almost a different headphone. Definitely not an upgrade if you like big bass. I'll have to tweak this more.
