I'd like something pretty affordable, good for picking out sound, but something that doesn't completely block out sound.

They're great headphones but I'm pretty sure you want a neutral headphone for making music. [editline]27th April 2013[/editline] Though, for that low I'm not sure if there are any.

I could probably go about 50-60 dollars if I have to. I'm not getting them right now, anyway.

Koss KSC75
So there is nothing like the DT-770 PRO with a shorter cable? I know i'm asking a retarded question about getting a shorter cable from studio headphones.
So there is nothing like the DT-770 PRO with a shorter cable? I know i'm asking a retarded question about getting a shorter cable from studio headphones.
ATH-M50 are similar and there's a coiled cable version but I can't remember the name
The headphones I bought last month have finally left the country: I really want to know how it took sooo long for this to finally happen.
ATH-M50 are similar and there's a coiled cable version but I can't remember the name
The ATH-M50 are the coiled version, the ATH-M50S are the straight cabled version
So there is nothing like the DT-770 PRO with a shorter cable? It's still 3 meters long, but because it's coiled it's like having a 1 meter cable.
Budget: Around 100$ eBay: No Country:Denmark Isolation:Circumaural Purpose: Playing games, listening to music, talking on skype/mumble. Music Tastes: Mostly techno, some metal once in a while. Previous Experiences: My current headset is razer carcharias.
Koss KSC75
Well, when I meant not closed, I didn't mean like something like that, I like the look of the MDRs. I just don't want anything that might deafen me to what's going on around me if that makes sense.
Why exactly would it be a better choice to pick up a microphone and headphones instead of a headset?
Why exactly would it be a better choice to pick up a microphone and headphones instead of a headset?
Better sound quality for less or same price. [editline]29th April 2013[/editline] Larger variety.
Why exactly would it be a better choice to pick up a microphone and headphones instead of a headset?
Also typically better build quality.
Better everything the only downside is inconvenience, which a desktop or clip-on mic solve (clip-on mics are a little inconvenient due to the extra wire which is solvable).
Better everything the only downside is inconvenience, which a desktop or clip-on mic solve (clip-on mics are a little inconvenient due to the extra wire which is solvable).
I dunno. It's both convenient and inconvenient. I remember having to return my headset once because the mic on it just broke.
Budget: $200 - $400 for headphones and DAC, willing to go over if there is something with great performance for the price eBay: I like eBay Country: USA Isolation: I don't care too much, but closed is slightly preferred Purpose: Primarily for listening to music, but also should be decent for gaming Music Tastes: light rock, drum & bass, and some vocal pieces Previous Experiences: I liked the sound quality I had on my old Bose quietcomforts, but it cancelled a bit more than I would've liked and caused my ears to feel pressurized after extended use. I've been meaning to get some nice headphones for a while, but I have trouble deciding on what would be best to buy. I'm definitely looking for an all-around good headset that will last me for a while. Right now i'm leaning towards a pair of the HD 650s and an apex glacier, but I'm open to suggestions.

Budget: up to $100 eBay: No thank you Country: USA Isolation: Circumaural Purpose: Gaming, light AV work, music, Skype/Mumble Music Tastes: A little bit of everything, mostly electronic and stuff (Last.fm under my avatar) Previous Experiences: I had these for about two years. Loved them to death but they unfortunately died (rip in peace) leaving me with shitty Skullcandys Comments: I know it's shunned upon, but a microphone would make my life a ton easier, as my only auxiliary mic is a handheld (literally) RockBand mic.
So I might be getting a new pare of headphones soon, I am set on using the Xonar Essence STX as the sound card but I cant really decide on a headset/headphone with mic I am considering either Sennheiser Pc 350se or Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, 250 ohms with the Audio-Technica AT2020 using the stand it comes with. Any suggestions? Edit: Audio quality is more important then the mic quality, I just thought getting a good mic would be nice with a new pare of good headphones
DT770 for sure. I'd recommend something else than the Xonar if you're not completely set on it though.
http://www.amazon.com/Koss-ProDJ100-Headphones/dp/B003X1BEKI or http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
Both are good, the Koss will be better built, lifetime warranty, coiled cable, mid-emphasized in sound although some find it uncomfortable. The Creative's are more V-shaped (strong bass/highs) with a straight cable. I'd get the Creative's if you don't know what you want, safer buy in the sound and comfort department
Does the MP3 player make a massive difference? I'm looking to buy a new one, not sure if I should get a cheaper one or go for a ~£100 model. Any recommendations? I operate mine from the pocket, so buttons only.

Variance in the ability to drive headphones of different impedance (remedied generally by use of an external amp), ability to play different file types (e.g. FLAC), ease of modification (Sansa products used to have a different user-made firmware you could flash to them), and other things. If you've got a decent android phone, you might look into just upgrading your removable storage. What headphones do you have?

I've only had experience with "Gaming" headsets and $5 earbuds.
