i hope they dont get discounted more than 60
Well darn, I tried my best.
lcd2 vs hd650? opinions?
Audeze has a track record of quality control issues that are a real turn-off for me, and I much prefer Zmf's house sound and level of craftsmanship over the LCD-2. But as far as sound and comfort (And it'd been a long while since I've demo'd the LCD-2) the LCD-2 has a lovely dark signature, with a mid-treble peak that gives it a kind of sizzle, along with that fabulous planar kick in the low end. Hd650 is technically the superior headphone being more well-rounded than the LCD-2, but the LCD-2 has its moments with EDM and electronic. LCD-2 weighs like a brick though. (The Zmf omni also weighs a metric fuck'ton, but ergonomics helps distribute weight)
i really dig the look of the lcd2, the like bubble-wood on the zmf looks kinda tacky/cheap to me :(
Could anyone recommend a decent pair of desktop monitors that are under $300?
JBL LSR305's are excellent powered monitors and typically drop to $200 a pair on black fridays.
Holy fuck these 598s rock your socks off, I can't imagine what even better cans sound like
I just got a pair of 598s, around the same time you did. I guess we hit the same sale. I'm coming from 518s, and they're honestly about the same. Regardless, they're excellent headphones. I'd suggest getting a preamp though, they really only work well with a preamp.
Should I get these?

If you're buying from Massdrop, there's plenty better options for not much more, depending on timing of course.
Massdrop X Sennhesier collab on the Hd6xx? There's still that gaping hole from all that Schiit but...

[editline]when[/editline]
Audioquest also unveiled their Nighthawk and Nightowl Carbons w/ new pads. the old stock's MSRP dropped to $350, so that means the used market is also taking a dive. Time to grab a pair of old Nighthawks?
God damnit. I can't.
[editline]2nd November 2016[/editline]
Not right now at least, too much furniture to buy.
Man, I was about to buy the K7XX's too. I guess I'll wait until the last minute for that if that announcement is good.
The sennheiser Hd600's are excellent open monitors for studio use and they're regarded as the headphone benchmark for their price/performance ratio. The warmer and more mellow Hd650 would be my #2 for studio monitoring because of their slightly colored, but still tonally accurate sound, deep rich bass and softer top end. (Hd650 is much more fun to listen to also) They both need some dedicated amplification though.
Would the Magni 2 and Modi suffice for the HD650s?
Sure, they can rock the Hd650's just fine. And if you intend on purchasing new, Amazon Uk's got them for $308 USD less import fees. I'd wait till tomorrow to see what massdrop has in store though, as it might lower their price points. (People are speculating that the Hd6XX will be around $250-350 if it IS the Hd6XX)
Pretty damn sure that's an Hd6XX body in black. Twelve more hours!

Yep, I was going to wait for the MD one as well.
I want to buy the Sennheiser HD 461i for travel and school use, its 80 euro.
Worth it? Or should i go for one version lower, the HD 451? It looks almost identical but the sound quality is said to be better on the 461
Senn HD 6XX was announced on Massdrop. It's just a cheaper, different colored HD 650.
I'm probably still going to get the AKG's.
Cheaper 650. I like the sound of that
I do too but they're not really what I want right now.
I'm sure they'll be back.
Same as Hd650? Guess I get to save my wallet then, $200 is one hell of a deal though
Hey guys I know this is the buying megathread but I don't see any other headphone thread and don't wanna make a new thread just for this quick question so here goes
I've been using some 34 year old studio mastering headphones for a few months now and they sound awesome but recently the left ear has developed a buzz with certain frequencies, is this due to debris in the shell or is the driver finally wearing out for good? The whole thing is shielded and proofed from interference so I'm thinking it is a physical problem of some sort. They are not abused but they are very old so it wouldn't surprise me if something is finally beginning to fail.
It's probably debris that's causing your drivers to buzz. You can examine the driver with a flashlight and use a light burst of compressed air to remove any debris on the driver, or if you have steady hands, brush stuff off with a small instrument. Just be careful not to puncture the driver of course. (I've used a clean capri-sun straw to remove hairs from my hd650 drivers in the past)
Thanks, I'll take the shell apart when I get home tonight and see if I can clean them. I recall when I was replacing the disintegrating foam ear cups some crumbly foam gunk fell through the grille but I thought I got it all out and it didn't make any funny noises at the time.
Worst case scenario I'll send them to be professionally serviced because they are really really good headphones and if they'll run like this for another 30 years it's worth the investment.
As soon as I hit it with compressed air, a big piece of foam launched out through the grille. Buzzing solved. Thanks :v:
oh wow that massdrop 650
oh wow that massdrop 650
I'm buying it. Along with a Magni and Modi by the time it arrives.
I'm buying it. Along with a Magni and Modi by the time it arrives.
Yeah I could get a magni and modi by 2018 too.
Welp, dropped the cash on the AKG 7XX's. The Senn 6XX's are a fucking deal but the 7XX's have the better soundstage and are better for video games.
Update on my 5.1 Project thing
Bought myself a Cambridge Audio Azur 340R that drives the speakers pretty well, but the issue is that it only has output for a Powered Sub, but i've got a Passive Sub.
I've read online I can connect the sub to the front l/r speaker connectors in parallel - anyone got any experience with this?
I've gotten an issue. My computer is shit and the headphone port doesn't work on it. Does anyone know any good USB soundcards or just 3.5mm to USB? Thanks.

If your sub has a high level pass-through, you'd feed the receiver's front L/R speaker output to the sub's high-level input, then sub's high level output to your L/R Speakers.
Receiver L/R Out > Sub High-level Input > Sub High-level Output > L/R Speakers
If your sub doesn't have high level inputs/outputs, you can piggyback the sub line inputs off of the receiver's L/R outs.
Receiver L/R Out > L/R Speakers + Subwoofer.
Here's an article about it: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-hook-up-a-subwoofer-to-a-stereo-system
