If you like money in your pocket, you're in a pretty damn good spot and should be alright. I'm trapped at event horizon of "I know my gear's good, but I've heard 'other' more-expensive options and I'm hooked" and there's no escaping for me. But the end-game barrier has definitely lowered since I started which is fantastic. What used to be Schiit Bifrost MB > Val2/Molj2/Eddie Current > Hd6x0 flavor of choice; is now the Modi MB > Vali2/Jotun, quite a penny saved.. And it actually fits on a desk too.
I attest money in my pocket. Thinking of a 650 and schiit Valhalla 2 and modi multibit
I'm actually considering getting the schiit Val2 or Saga as a pre-tube buffer for my Schiit Jot.. It never ends ahhhh!!!!
But I'm also getting ryzen+Vega or at least Vega + my 5ghz 4770k if ryzen turns out to be shit [editline]22nd January 2017[/editline] Mergeee
I'm looking for some new headphones. I'm not exactly an audiophile but I'd like some that sounds good and are comfortable to wear for a reasonable price. My current pair is a Panasonic RP-HTF600-s, as recommended by this thread back in the day. I've been fine with these for the last 2-3 years, with one exception in that my head is seemingly a bit too wide for it or something. They broke very shortly after I got them, and I've had to keep them together with increasing amounts of duct tape for the last few years. I'd prefer not having to do that again, so something a bit wider or more adjustable would be nice. Any recommendations?
Do you have a budget in mind and don't care about isolation? I'd recommend the Superlux Hd668-b with these earpads. If your budget is a little higher, the sennheiser hd558 is a very competent pair of open headphones as well. And if you need isolation, the audio technica M40x + brainwavz pleather earpads is super comfy with a neutral-bright signature.
So what would the logical upgrade be for the magni/modi stack? I was thinking of the multibit modi and a bottlecracker tube amp kit maybe.
I'd say modi MB > bottlehead crack + speedball or the val2 with EH 6CG7 input tubes. Crack should have a more lovely tone and the val2 more neutral. If you want a fast sound, the jotunheim is razor sharp with bass impact and speed, but accentuates mid treble a little. And based on my experience on how pretty terrible schiit's usb implementation is (seriously usb vs spdif is like night and day on the bimby with my setup) I'd have to say some type of digital > digital transport to go along with it. I went with the ifi idsd nano because it doubles as a portable amp, but I'm pretty sure you can build a digital transport using a raspberry pi with a ddc spdif hat or use pretty much anything. If you're lucky and your mobo already has toslink / spdif, I'd recommend you give it a whirl. And if you're on the fence, schiit might have a few very interesting things coming out in the next few months.
what cans

HD6XX's showed up and holy bananas- bought the Magni 2 and Modi 2 to go along with it later the same day.
I think my Hd650's mod evolution is finally in the sweet spot lush mid-range while digging into some serious sub-bass. Mass loader now replaced with Second Skin Damplifier pro because it's cheap and easier to apply/maintain than both dynamat and sorbothane and the only downside is that it smelled like old vinyl and a hint baby vomit for the first week?? Otherwise the tonal signature compared to the last two is a little darker presentation and more (physical) weight overall because it's thicker. It's also visually more appealing because it's all black instead of sticky fingerprint magnet / shiny foil. [t]http://i.imgur.com/bflsd0t.jpg[/t]
Not sure if this is the right thread for this, But I currently have a HD558 cans (Love them, more thanmy 428s and 202v1s). One of the best features is this removable cord. Now i was wondering if there is a way I can replace the cord (which is 5mm to 2.5mm(which connects to the headphones itself). I was wondering if there is some sort of mod that can add a microphone to it? My plantronics .10 headpphones I got from the late 90s early 2000s are really showing their age. And I cant find myself a decent standalone mic these days for a decent price. (and i certainly do not want a condenser mic, i dont want to hear peopple smacking my lips when im browsing my food porn) My question is simply this, Is there I can have a mic that can pplug into the 2.5mm slot on the phones and to a regular 3.3mm input on my soundcard?

I'm planning on getting one since it's portable compared to the Yeti.

good pair of wireless earbuds for $100? something that can wrap around my ears because normal ones always fall out of my ears. Thanks!
They're not $100 or have something that wrap around the ears, but the brainwavz blu-200's sound very nice for blutooth and I've never had any issues with them falling out of my ears when using the foam earbuds, even when active. Actually, the foam earbuds on them are literally the only buds I've ever had that don't constantly fall out of my ear.

You just need a very fine phillips screwdriver.
So I wanted to start out these 558's a little different than the ghetto way most people do this. Instead of just removing the locking cam which also protects the jack/board from damage from jamming the connector into the board. I did the same to my 518's which I only took pictures of. The first time I did it I didn't drill/shave down the tabs as much and it actually puts a little pressure on the adapter which helps hold it snugly. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/Computer/2016-01-15%2015.55.51.jpg[/t]
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/Computer/2016-01-15%2015.15.42.jpg[/t] It's very simple, you can just take out the locking cam. All you do is remove the left earpad(pull with wide even pressure across multiple fingers. Unscrew the 3 screws holding the driver in, carefully set it aside and then unscrew the 2 screws that hold down the jack board. Now remove the locking cam and reassemble. I modified my locking cam instead because it guides the cord into the jack a little and keeps it from stabbing into the board. If you go buy a $8 dremel knockoff at harbor freight or something it would probably be better to grind down the inner tabs with that instead of jamming drill bits into something I held with pliers. If you don't want to use some screwdrivers, you could always get a modmic.
If you need help taking the ear pads off without breaking them, you can watch someone else do it in the following link. This video also goes over disassembly but it's really not complicated other than using a correct screwdriver that won't strip the screw heads. How the hell do you guys deal with having a mechanical keyboard and a desk mic? It seems like having a headset is the only real way to go if the only place you can put down a mic is right next to a noisy fucking keyboard. And because my walls are so paper thin I can only put it so far away from my face before the microphone can't pick up my voice at all because of how quiet I talk.

Once I switched to discord, I adjusted the sensitivity of my mic and fixed maybe 90% of the problem. Maybe you can get a mic arm and attach it to your desktop mic? You can put it closer to your face and set the sensitivity low.

Keeps the mic very close to my face, out of my peripheral vision, and I can swing it out of the way any time I want. Cost less than $30 too. The cardioid pattern helps mitigate a lot of keyboard clackies, but I typically use push-to-talk anyway. Plus, having a separate mic liberates me from solely headsets. And it opens up my options to some pretty insane headphones. (Looking at you ZMF Ori, Oppo Pm-2, Sennheiser Hd650, CA Orion)
Ok so my sounds on videos, music and youtube and most windows things are fine and are at a decent volume but most if not all of my games seem to be quiet, i'm not sure why, does anyone know anything?
Budget: preferably as cheap as possible while maintaining quality. [t]http://www.fruityloopssamples.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/voice-recording.jpg[/t] Top is completely wrong and a huge misnomer. [t]http://voiceathome.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/adc96174_o.jpeg[/t] This is correct. You keep your head straight like normal and you mic slightly above your mouth. This tends to work well with how I sit so it's basically right above my monitor. You do not need a pop filter using this technique, since your plosives won't be hitting the mic straight on like they normally do.

Would you guys recommend loudness equalization when using headphones, again i thought i was ok with my sound lol but most games are far too quiet, i mean I can hear most things in the game but it just doesn't sound loud enough
Well I got my monk pluses in and I have to say, I've never heard anything sound that good for five bucks a pop.
I'm looking for a good pair of headphones for gaming and for music. I would prefer Wireless. I currently have the Sennheiser 280Pro's and am looking for something a little more and wireless. My budget is $350.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A73ZIL0/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3GRURY5RYWGPU Thoughts on this headset? For $30 and to be used for gaming I don't think I can go very wrong.
Not headphones - but this thread is probably the best place. I'm looking at buying a pair of monitor speakers. Currently looking at Alesis Elevate 5, JBL LSR305 and KRK RP5s. Anyone tried any, or able to chime in at all?
From a lot of professional reviewers I follow, the jbl lsr305 is the go-to for budget monitoring for its excellent imaging and ruler flat response. I'm kinda stuck in the same decision between the jbl lsr305 and the Overnight Sensations MT. Except the latter is a kit build. The OSMT has a more fun and lively sound and is less for monitoring.
