The Hd6XX is coming back.. but with an increased price of $250. They sold all 5000 units in how many minutes last time? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx?mode=guest_open

Budget: $50 eBay: Yes Country: USA Isolation: Don't care Purpose: Gaming, general PC use Previous Experiences: M50's Comments: I use a laptop as my main PC, and it only has one 3.5mm "combo" port. For the last few years I've just plugged one of these into my laptop, and used that for my AT M50's and Zalman clip-on mic. The mic broke a few weeks back so I've been draping it over my shoulders... it's time for a change. I obviously love the headphones, but I don't like having two cables and using the USB adapter. I'm leaning toward getting a full headset/mic combo that plugs in via USB, but holy shit everything is so gamer these days. I also use the M50's for studio work or recording, so I'd like to be able to dedicate them to that purpose instead of having to move them from my desk. I don't want LED's or that gamer feel, I don't care for bluetooth, and I don't need to spend $50+ on this. Suggestions?
You can get an antlion mod mic and attach it to your m50's. Boom instant headset.
You can get an antlion mod mic and attach it to your m50's. Boom instant headset.
I should have specified in my comments sorry. I'd like to move away from having a headset cable and a mic cable, and using that USB adapter. I'll update my post

Still a little gamer-y, but the headphone itself is based off of the formidable takstar pro 80's and the mics are detachable and replaceable.

Any suggestions for headsets that have a USB connection instead?
Hyper X cloud 2 has usb but that costs a little more. And while I'd typically suggest staying away from USB headsets, in your case since you have a laptop, it might not be that big of a difference.
Having two cables is just one of those things that, after 5+ years, is starting to drive me nuts. Also the USB adapter that I'm using is too wide, and blocks the other USB port on my laptop.
Hey guys, I'm looking to get a closed pair of headphones (already have open and iems). Anyone here tried the Status Audio CB-1? It looks really promising to me but I've seen some mixed opinions on it [editline]23rd June 2017[/editline] or should I just shell out the extra money on M40x's

I'd say if you don't mind a higher clamp, spring for the M40x's, otherwise it doesn't hurt to try the status cans with amazon's 15 day return policy.

There really aren't any other recommendations with your requirements and budget. It's a market segment primarily filled with shit.
There really aren't any other recommendations with your requirements and budget. It's a market segment primarily filled with shit.
Take the sound quality out of the picture, what are your personal recommendations for the least smelly pile of shit?

Great gateway into audio and spreading awareness, but that's about it.

HD700s on MD for $400. Should I grab one?
HD700s on MD for $400. Should I grab one?
If you've heard them before and enjoy it, go right ahead, but if not, then no. Their sound signature is mega ultra-bright and demands a demo if you intend on getting one. I've also seen them go for less than $280 used nowadays.

I'll probably stick with my HD6XXs for a good while longer then. Glad I got em for $200 as opposed to $250 like the new run. Im still using my schiit stack (not uber). The modi multibit should be my next upgrade, correct?
Sure, you can either go for the modi multibit or get speakers.
Already got some Swans Hivi M10s or whatever from MD as well.
MD has reduced the price of the Hd6XX back to $199 if it surpasses 5000 orders (It already has). Deal is great again. [editline]when[/editline] https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx?mode=guest_open
MD has reduced the price of the Hd6XX back to $199 if it surpasses 5000 orders. Deal is great again.
Why do the good massdrop deals always end a day or two before I get paid?
Why do the good massdrop deals always end a day or two before I get paid?
Drop date is Dec 18th, so you easily make up the difference and buy it anytime between now and then.
Why do the good massdrop deals always end a day or two before I get paid?
Ha christ, that shipping date. I won't even be living at this address then. Plus the import tax would be dumb. Shipping Ireland -> US -> England... [editline]29th June 2017[/editline] With a maybe £500 budget, what would you guys suggest for home listening? No need for portability, so could be headphones + amp or whatever. Mostly I listen to electronic and rock/metal, with some hip-hop thrown in so a slight bass focus would be ideal.
Budget: $150 - $500 eBay: sure Country: US Isolation: Circamural, would like to try something open-back but given my other requirements that may not be possible Purpose: Pimarily multiplayer and/or VR games, secondarily music/porn/movies/the usual Music Tastes: metal, punk rock of the hardcore variety, rap, classical Previous Experiences: ath-m50s, logitech g930 Comments: So the kicker is I need something wireless because I play vr games. I've tried using my m50s with the cable wrapped around my neck but that's dumb. I've been using the g930 and it's been ok-ish but like everyone that's owned them for long enough I'm starting to have problems and want a non-shit upgrade. The vive has a built in mic so it doesn't necessarily have to be a 'headset', although an easy attached mic would be kinda nice so I'm not having to switch between speakers, headphones-with-desktop-mic AND headphones-with-vive-mic (I also don't have a desktop mic so that would be another purchase in that case). My price range is pretty flexible, I don't necessarily need the most amazing audio (I use speakers most of the time anyway) but I want to pay more to avoid buggy mediocre shit like my g930s. Open to any suggestions whether gayman headsets or something classier. *Edit I'm thinking this through and it's occurring to me that a simple solution would be to have a 2stage headphone cable, where stage 1 is like a foot and a half and then it plugs into a longer extension cable. So I have a normal long cable at my desk, then when vr time comes just unplug it from the extension cable and now it's real short for the hmd. I'm sure extension cables are easy to find but the short base cable would limit my options to only detatchable-cable headphones.

For open back, a modified Hd650/hd6xx will excel at nearly all genres from EDM to pop to classical to jazz, but performs only as well as its source and lacks any sort of channel separation. The Thx00's don't demand amplification and you can get away w/o an amp, though it's recommended. While the hd650/6XX will sound dull and flat unless it has an amp that can swing volts quickly. Schiit Vali 2 is ideal budget because the tube buffer adds much needed depth while keeping coloration to a minimum. The magni 2 is second budget pick with solid state in mind, At mid tier, Schiit Valhalla 2 for even better tubes, and the Jotunheim for bass control and speed. Eddie Current Zana Deux is tube endgame.
