is there any particular reason my 6xx's sound better directly connected to my pc's front aux jack, than through the same jack, or the back jack, routed through my magni 2 uber? is it the shitty aux to rca cable connected to the magni? i'm trying to figure out if i should get a fulla 2 or if it's worth just taking the magni 2 uber from my turntable setup and pairing it with a modi 2 for my pc. hence i was trying just the magni before i buy anything and was surprised when it sounded worse.
That seems weird. I guess it's possible that neither are line-level outputs which, ideally, the Magni would want. Or a very cheap RCA cable could do that, although there's little variation in cables past $2 or so really.
So, I'm in the need for a new set of headphones and I know almost to nothing about the current market nor any "scenes" there might be. I've been spoiled with my old DT770s for a long time but they unfortunately got smashed in an accident. I want some kind of sturdy headphones that is over-ear, comfortable to use for prolonged periods of time and have comparable audio quality to the DT770s. I'm not made out of money but willing to spend a similar pirce to what the DT770s cost me. Headphones and audio is fairly important to me so it's something I like to prioritize in my budget. Any suggestions would be helpful to oblivious me.
DT770's are still a good choice if you liked the sound. Around the same price there's the Shure SHR84 or the DT880 / DT990. Otherwise you could look at ATH-M50s for a bit cheaper, or a little more expensive would get you Massdrop K7XX or HD6XX
Welp my headset finally snapped https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015ZXZ1BY/ bought one of these and the piece of shit cord kept tangling up on its own, and the material it was made of caused it to perma tangle, like if I untangle it it just goes right back. I was sitting down to resume a movie and had been annoyed all night that theres been a pull on my left ear because of the tangling so I pulled it like usual and the wire under the volume partition finally gave way, I knew it was going to soon I really want to replace it with something wireless, but can't decide. I'm looking at these two right now https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-VOID-Wireless-Gaming-Headset/dp/B0748N6796/ https://www.razerzone.com/gaming-audio/razer-manowar Manowar seemed good at $110+$7 tax from amazon but they're on backorder til the 19th and some reviews about the support snapping are leaving me nervous. I have tight money and planned to save it for games come Christmas so I'd hate to waste $100+ and not feel good with it What is a good if not the best wireless set ranging below $140? [editline]17th December 2017[/editline] I was always real jealous of a skype friend back in the day that had a wireless headset from turtlebeach where he could walk around the entire house and still listen and talk

Well it looks like my Fiio E09k shit the bed. What should I get, a Modi Multibit and an Asgard?
Well it looks like my Fiio E09k shit the bed. What should I get, a Modi Multibit and an Asgard?
The Asgard has been superseded by the magni 3, saves money too.
Well shit, a Modi Multi and a Magni 3 definitely fit into the budget then.
how much better is the modi multibit than the modi 2? i hear it's the best in the series, but is it still the best if you just use the usb on both of them? (isn't async usb the best way anyway?)
how much better is the modi multibit than the modi 2? i hear it's the best in the series, but is it still the best if you just use the usb on both of them? (isn't async usb the best way anyway?)
USB is pretty shit all around. Less bad if you're on not-Windows as they natively support USB Audio 2.0 and don't need device specific drivers. If you get something with Gen 5 USB (i.e. Bifrost+ or Eitr -> coax SPDIF -> DAC) then it's fine, otherwise there's SPDIF if your device has it.
really? on all the audiophile sites i was looking on people seemed to agree that async usb is better than spdif. here's just one example from another google my understanding is usb USED to be shit before the advent of asynchronous usb [editline]18th December 2017[/editline] it seems as though a good usb dac (like a modi 2) won't be worse than spdif and in some cases is better

So, since my few tries buying headphones havent gone too well i come here looking for help! So my first actual headphones were this https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Surround-Headphones-Microphone/dp/B003VANOFY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1513627544&sr=8-3&keywords=logitech+g930 Which were a fucking disaster as the audio quality is OK at best, its not true 7.1 surround and they make my ears heat like crazy plus the size fatigues my neck pretty darn quickly Then i got these to use on my phone as well on my PC https://www.amazon.com/COWIN-Cancelling-Headphones-Microphone-Comfortable/dp/B019U00D7K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1513627656&sr=8-3&keywords=cowin+e7+active+noise+cancelling+bluetooth+headphones And while they sound miles better than the logitech and are overall ligther they are kinda unconfortable on my ears as in i feel the earcups are too small and theres some pretty high delay when using bluetooth which defeats any gaming purposes so tldr: im just looking for a good pair of headphones that has GOOD audio quality for music and gaming, i mean as long its crisp and clear its fine, in therms of budget i dont mind paying a for something expensive as long its quality is worth it
get some sennheisers man, damn. don't ever get any gamer shit
And COWIN are Amazon Chinesium shit. what's your budget? Open-back or closed-back? Open is better for gaming since you get clearer directional audio but they leak sound so people around you can hear too. What type of music you prefer is helpful too. [editline]19th December 2017[/editline] I always find it amazing how all the top headphone brands on Amazon are crappy no-name ripoffs.
Id say my budget is arround 400$ as i said i dont mind paying a premium as long its a quality product.. As for open or closed preferably closed since i live with other people and id rather avoid sound leaking. And for the music i prefer just a little bit of everything but mostly (Rock, Pop, Indie,Indie Folk and such )

The zmf classic needs an amp to run properly or the bass impact will be nonexistent. Something like the beyerdynamic 770 80 ohm or dt770 250ohm would also be a good pick, albiet a little bright sounding for Indy and pop. (The 250 ohm should be less bright and more controlled but needs an amp.)

At that price point you do have a lot of options. Sennheiser HD 26 Pro could be a good choice, although at that price point a lot comes done to preference really.
Life would be a lot simpler if people didn't need sound isolation.
Life would be a lot simpler if people didn't need sound isolation.
Just make a post macro for HD6XX + Schiit stack :v:
i've never found open headphones to leak much (at reasonable volumes). the only time people are ever bothered by a leak are weirdos on public transport to have their music at literal deafening levels and they are probably already hearing impaired. i use open 598 headphones at work and nobody can hear shit, you'd have to get up in my face to be able to hear any leakage.
The new Massdrop HD-58X looks like a slam dunk for non bass heads .
The earcups on my Skullcandy SLYRs are starting to fall apart and apparently there are no replacements for it online (and I don't really want to have to ship a whole new headset over from the US.) To that end, I'm looking for an over-the-ear headset that's good for music (no specific genres in mind, but a little bass is appreciated) and also for gaming (an attached microphone isn't needed - I have a clip-on.) I think that makes it a closed-air headset, although if there are other alternatives, I'm open to it. I'm in Australia, so some headsets may not be available here... Budget is about $300-500, I'm willing to pay for quality here (although I'm not convinced on the merits of a DAC, since all my music is from Spotify.) Plus, taking it around may be a bit of a hassle (so if it's more portable than a SLYR, that's great!)

Got the shp9500's and mpow, works well.

Unless you need the sound isolation (busy workplace, public transport, etc) then open-back is generally better. In that budget range you've got a huge range of options for both though, it's probably worth taking a read through Head-Fi's 2017 holiday buying guide which has mostly pretty good information. [editline]24th December 2017[/editline] For most people, assuming they don't mind open-back, Massdrop HD6XX + some form of DAC+amp is the go-to recommendation in that budget. Not sure about the dollarydoos to $ conversion but you might be able to get a HD6XX + Audioquest Dragonfly Red in that budget? Might be a little less portable than you're looking for though. [editline]24th December 2017[/editline] The Oppo PM-3 could suit you perfectly now I think of it.
should i really do that even my speakers wont play any audio i think its something to do with my settings
Return it and fix the issue of no sound separately.
