My hd 558s are a bit too loud these days. Meaning for everyone else. Often times I wonder if there's a better headphone though.
just get a 6xx. tbh i just think everyone in the world should get in on the next 6xx drop
Eh, I'm just done with Massdrop's ass customer service and QC
would anyone recommend an hd 800S? there is one on gumtree for basically half price, and as much as i like my 6xx's i'm always inclined to go insane with things. is there a $1000 difference? if they sound incredible and clear and have a massive soundstage i'd probably do it. it's hard to say from reviews just how MUCH better they are than what i already have, especially since it's all i've really heard

If you're not shy to mod, no, the SDR mod for the hd800 achieves similar results, if not a more articulate low end, for nearly half the price if you get used. Otherwise, their sound characteristics are very different to the hd6x0's. Wider soundstage, brilliant high end, a lot less bass impact, but infinitely more comfy. If you have a bright amp you'll be scorched by it's radiance. If you want the next step up from the hd6x0's have a look at the audio zenith pmx2's.
I'm okay with a different sound. people are saying it's more analytical rather than laid back which sounds like what i've been looking for (but still with that sennheiser vibe) My amp is a magni 2 uber (soon to be a 3) and a modi multibit, and as far as i'm aware they're not bright ones
I'm okay with a different sound. people are saying it's more analytical rather than laid back which sounds like what i've been looking for (but still with that sennheiser vibe)
My bad forgot to capitalize the S, but opinion still stands. [Editline]when[/editline] Ninja'd
My bad forgot to capitalize the S, but opinion still stands.
yeah sorry I got confused too, edited my post. sometimes i feel the 6xx's could do with less bass tbh
I haven't heard the hd800S out of a magni 3 yet, but since it's a slightly warmer amp than the magni 2 it should be a good pairing. Oo if you do get the hd800s maybe it's time to mod the hd6x0's? :)
I don't trust myself to mod anything. I'll just break something lol anyway this guy's selling a new 800S for $1300 AUD on gumtree (when stores are charging between 1900 - 2500 for it). so once i verify it's genuine it's hard not to pull the trigger on that
this is phenomenal the hd 800 s's don't trigger the distortion in my left ear (when things get too loud). i guess the drivers being off my ear a bit and the massive sound stage are preventing the issue. this is amazing. you get what you pay for i guess
Whelp, guess that explains why the Magni I ordered on the 1st hasn't shipped yet.
STATUS: Backordered. We are experiencing unexpected delays at our board production house and that has delayed shipping of customer orders. We expect to begin shipping Magni 3 for customers with backorders on 1/22. Based on our current shipping and production schedules all backorders should be shipped by the week of 2/2. Orders placed December 30 - January 5 are scheduled to ship on 1/22 or 1/23. Orders placed January 6 - January 12 are scheduled to ship on 1/24 or 1/25. Orders placed on January 13 and after are expected to ship on 1/30 or 1/31.

Hey guys, looking for a new pair of headphones so here goes Budget: 100-150£ Country: UK Purpose: Good all-rounders ie. Music and video consumption, but also good for gaming Music Tastes: I'm pretty eclectic here... Mainly psychedelic pop/rock, electronic music (synth, D&B), some hard rock/metal, but also even classical and orchestrated music. The more genres they cover well, the better Previous Experiences: None buying actual headphones, have only ever bought headsets Comments: They absolutely need to use 3.5mm line-in so they can also be used with my TV. Would also prefer headphones that have some rich bass in there, though I'll leave it to you guys to recommend what will be the best way to go
Dt770, probably 32Ohm version?
I ended up buying the DT770 Pro (80 Ohm) and hooollyyy fuuuccckk they sound phenomenal, I've never heard audio quality like it. I couldn't be more ecstatic, thanks guys
Not gonna bother filling out the form. $25. US. General purpose, computer use for gaming and movies. Not expecting anything amazing, just looking for the least shit option. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B486K I take it these are still the best option? [editline]17th January 2018[/editline] In other words I have an Amazon gift card and just need headphones now. I'm not looking to go over that range. I understand that I won't find anything great, just want to know what to avoid more than anything else.
the hd800 was amazing when it came out but honestly it's only ok now. there are better open options for the same and less money.
just to be clear, I got the 800S not the 800. (which is usually between $1900-2500)
The rubber around the wire connecting to one of the ear hooks on my RHA MA750s has detached and I figure it's only a matter of time before I lose the right channel, still under warranty so I'll likely send them back later as a backup set since they are pretty nice. Still, it's been about a year and I'd like an upgrade to go with the Pioneer XDP-300R. Budget: Hard limit of 950 AUD (~760 USD) pre shipping for anything imported because anything over $1k gets hit with 15.5% of import duty and fuck that. Fine with less obviously, probably more around the $600 mark. eBay: No Country: Straya Isolation: IEM Purpose: Music Music Tastes: Bit of everything really, mostly trance, edm, dnb, synth etc. Some classical, rock, pop on the side. Previous Experiences: RHA MA750 Comments: Removable cables (likely MMCX, or another common one) which go over the ear are a must, though I assume that's a given at this price range. Wouldn't mind a bit of extra bass in there. DAP has balanced out so I'll probably try that out at some point later on. Likely only portable use as I prefer open cans at home. Current candidates: Shure SE535: Local distributors are actually cheaper than imports so it's nice in the regard, also has the option of sensaphonics tips for pseudo CIEM. Audiofly AF1120: Reviews reckon it's really good for the price but the cable gets tangled as fuck which I'm not a fan of. MMCX connectors but they have a proprietary locking mechanism so not all custom cables work. Campfire Audio Polaris: Heard good things about Campfire Audio, though I would have to get after market tips as I can only get a good seal with multi flange tips. If there's something not on the list feel free to suggest it, almost certain I'm missing something else great out there. Also won't rule out CIEMs, there's an audiologist 20 mins away that's on 1964's approved list.
I personally love my 535s for that type of music. Although I reckon at that budget CIEM is your best choice.

If you can order from Alo warehouse deals you can get them b-stock for $100 off. And the b-stock I got had virtually no flaws on them. https://aloaudio.deals (I've yet to listen to the Polaris though, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt, i've only had time with the Vega, Jupiter, Orion and Andromeda.)

I just brought the Koss again. I also should've mentioned I don't like closed designs because I don't like not being aware of my surroundings because shit always happens.

can anyone recommend good dual headphone stands (that aren't stupidly expensive for some reason)?
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-akg-m220-pro-headphones#options any good? gonna be used for gaming w light general music use
I think it's finally 'bout time to get a pair of headphones. Can really start to feel the wear & tear on my current ones. Budget: ~€100-150 ideally eBay: No Country: Denmark Isolation: Closed, circumaural Purpose: Gaming & music. I play music myself as well and am getting more and more into actual production of stuff (on a hobby level) so I was mostly looking for something that works fine for that purpose; gaming can come secondary I suppose Music Tastes: Pretty much everything, really. Mostly rock and metal, but fair amount of electronic stuff too Previous Experiences: Steelseries Siberia V2 is what I have now, and is the only thing I can remember using. Only thing I want to "keep" from these is the design, honestly. Comments: Would like it to, or be able to, use 1/4" jack since I have an audio interface for it. Since I kinda want to get more in to the whole production part of music as well I think I'd prefer if the sound is as neutral as possible, too. thanks in advance ♥
Yo Kangaroo, could I get a list of your recommended mods for the 650?

I'd still recommend open back headphones for mastering since they sound more natural than closed backs though.

What spurred the change of heart btw?
It's always been my intention of getting the 650's if I decided to replace my DT990's. I've probably contradicted that multiple times in this thread though. With my E09k still dead I'm getting a Schiit Stack so why not headphones too.
Budget: $150 - $400 eBay: No Country: US Isolation: Open or Closed Purpose: Mainly sound whoring in games, some music Music Tastes: Little bit of everything really, mainly EDM and Rock Previous Experiences: Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 and Audio-Technica M50x Comments: My AD700s are starting to feel a little worn but I still enjoy them and I find them super comfortable. I'm mainly seeing if anyone has any opinions for what would be an upgrade from the AD700s. I'm assuming I could just continue up the Audio-Technica line and stop where my budget limits me. Part of me kind of wants to try a different brand. I'm also not sure if I should invest in an AMP and/or DAC like the Schiit stack. I've been looking at a few different headphones like the HD6XX, K7XX, Monoprice M1060, AD1000x
At around $400 you can grab pretty much the best combo you'll get < $1000 with HD6XX + Modi 2 + Magni 3.
The hd600 might suite you better as it has a closer signature to the ad700 but with a more controlled upper end. If you want a warmer sound, then Hd6XX.
