Went with the Shure SE-864 because they were on sale resulting in them actually being like 20% cheaper than the US pricing somehow. Figured I'm going to get a few years out of these things anyway and didn't want to be stuck with a mid range IEM for that long. Everyone at work thinks I'm insane, I'm inclined to agree, and my parents are definitely disappointed in me but jesus fuck are these things good.
Sadly the Magni 3 lacks the ability to drive such low impedance IEMs and barely gets out of channel imbalance before hitting painful levels. Funnily enough the Ragnarok - which is capable of driving speakers - does feature 0 dB on low gain and therefore likely would work just fine. Not really an issue given I have a DAP for that and the Magni was for my 6XXes.
Anyone got third party tips for Shures before? I knew they were smaller and therefore all my old tips won't fit so I'm looking for a nice double/triple flange tip, probably more like 15mm long (stock are 23mm long). The triple flange tip it comes with seals miles better than anything else I've tried before but a tip going a whole inch into my ear is far from comfortable and somewhat concerning. Using the foam tips for now which seem to work ok unlike the comply tips on my RHAs that would work themselves out in 30 mins.
Had a quick look and there does appear to be a few and some suggest instead just trimming the shaft on the stock ones since it's so long but I figured I'd check here first.
If you particularly want double/triple flange then trimmed is the best choice I believe.
I've found the default Shure black foam ones best on me 535s though, the flanged ones sound noticeably worse to me.
I've got a pretty good pair of headphones from audio technica, but I can't wear them for more than like 15 minutes because they make my skull hurt, any way to make them a little wider?

Stretch them over your computer case for a night or two or more.
Anyone here know how easy it would be to re-shell an (otherwise working) Shure SE425 into a new case? Wondering if I can make a quick profit from this.

They don't seem to hurt as bad if I put them on in a certain angle (or just getting used to them), plus I don't have a desktop atm, will try to find a box or something.

Well for £45 quid, I think I have a nice new DIY project to work on.
I'm thinking I might get some new shells 3d-printed (after lots of research me thinks) and stick them with the new Shure BT cable :)
The HD6XX are back on sale for a bit:

Almost tempted to make my first big boy headphone purchase. But I have no clue what I would need in terms of an Amp and DAC.

They're great I have a pair of 6xx's and a pair of 7xx's as far as amps/DACS i run a schitt Modi 2 DAC/Asgard 2 Amp combo but a magni 3 would definitely work for an amp and be cheaper

Can confirm the 6XX sounds great on a Magni 3.
In other news Shures triple flange tips are still too long with them trimmed as far as they go, Bifrost gets nice and toasty as promised, Shure memory foam tips are surprisingly good, and custom moulding tips out of earplugs is harder than expected though initial attempt #1 is comfy as fuck.

Also curing putty sounds real fucking weird.

I'd probably lean towards the cheaper option, but what makes the Asgard better? I might consider it if it's truly worth the price. Might.

Asgard is class A, magni is class AB (so it is class A until a certain point then transitions to class B), apart from that Magni 3 measures better in every other way (including output power!). Magni 3 started out as Asgard 3 in the prototyping phase.

For neutrality and mixing's sake, the AT M40x's, but they're not really ideal for music listening because they're not tailored to sound "fun", if you want something a little more exciting, Dt770 80 ohms, for warmth, sennheiser Hd598c's. I'd still recommend open back headphones for mastering since they sound more natural than closed backs though.
I decided to go with the DT770's. Only two minutes into use and oh boy everything sounds so much different, so much more.. filling. Also jesus christ they block out just about all sound there is, it feels so strange, I can even hear my heartbeat when I don't have anything playing..
Thanks for your help!

I'd go with the magni 3 if I was doing it again the only reason I went with the asgard 2 over the magni is I bought the asgard 2 used for what was basically highway robbery
Anyone recommend a decent headset stand for a decent price?
Anyone recommend a decent headset stand for a decent price?
I got myself a chrome banana stand for my hd650's and it works wonders because there's a gap in the headband where the hook goes.
Chrome banana stand also works fine for my DT990's
Theres also Zeos style yoga blocks which I'll have to try as my new desk won't have hooks on the side.

Be careful with those because they'll flatten out your ear pads if you leave them on for a very long time.
Anyonehere have experience re-selling Shure earphones?
Picked up a pair of SE425s with broken nozzles for £40, and I have ordered a pair of replacement shells.
Am I right in thinking just use a heatgun to melt the glue, transfer the internals, (test sound) then re-glue?
So my plans changed when the Jamo C-103 Speakers went on sale for $170
I got those, an Emotiva A-100, and a Modi 2 Uber.

And now that the HE4XX are available again and available sooner than the HD6XX were, I joined in on that drop.
Okay so yesterday I was using my ATH-M50x with my phone. Noticed the sound kept cutting out and jumping left/right, so I took out the plug and...

The tip somehow detached and is now stuck in my phone jack, How the fuck do I get it out (without fucking up the jack)?
This happened before with a different M50x cable, but I got it out somehow but don't remember how. Is this a common thing with the M50x?
[editline]13th February 2018[/editline]
To be honest i'm thinking of just getting a DT770. Don't get me wrong, I love my M50x. But it shipped with three cables: one plug got bent and the other two got stuck in jacks. I just don't trust it anymore.
I'd personally use a small amount of epoxy or something on a sturdy object that can fit in there, let it sit for a minute, and see if you can pull it out.
[editline]13th February 2018[/editline]
And by small I mean very small, don't want it leaking out to the casing of the jack.

I'm inhumanly clumsy so I'm thinking I might just bring it to a phone repair shop and ask what they would charge for removing it. Paying a couple tenners for a simple job like that might be a bit of a waste but it's less of a waste than paying for someone to fix the jack when I inevitably fuck it up.
Also, would my LG G4 be capable of 'powering' the 80 Ohms version of the DT770? I'm reading conflicting reports online, some say that's it works perfectly and some say that 80 Ohms is too much for phones.

Not to it's ideal potential but not completely inadequate.

How are the DT770? I know, these things are easily Googlable, but I just get so many conflicting reports. I'm personally thinking of the 80 Ohms version, I prefer velour pads because they don't wear down as easily. Some people say they're flatter than the M50x, some say they are quite bass heavy.
I'm a music producer so I do prefer a slightly flatter sound, but I'd be lying if I said I don't like a bit of extra bass when I listen to music.
I'm a bit bummed about the lack of a detachable cable though. If the same would happen with the DT770 as with my M50x i'd have to replace the entire headphones instead of just the cable.
Anyone have any other suggestions for a <200 euro pair of over-ear headphones? Sound-wise I'm only used to shitty earbuds, one pair of very bass-heavy Sony headphones, and the M50x. I like the M50x but for general listening i'd secretly like a bit of extra bass. Preferrably not Bluetooth but if it's a good price and it has the option to use a cable as well it's all fine.
I mostly listen to electronic genres (dubstep, drum & bass, trap) which are bass heavy, and produce them as well.
Also side-question but if anyone here happens to be from the Netherlands, are there any stores where it's possible to try a nice variety of headphones? Media Markt/Saturn only have the mainstream budget-y headphones from Sony and whatever and some Skullcandy tripe.
So I own a pair of ATH-M50x's. I bought the Bluetooth adapter for it, because I thought that was a really neat thing! Turns out that the official adapter is a peice of hot garbage.
So I'm wondering if there are any, decent battery life adapters you guys would recommend.
Having a built in amplifier would be excellent as well.

Look up some reviews of the V-Moda M100, not sure on the exact price in Euros but they fit your needs well by the sounds of it.

At 199 euro's they're a bit out of my budget sadly.
And i've already semi-decided on a true heathen pear of headphones: the Sony XB950B1. Bassboosted and Bluetooth, oh no.
I got a replacement cable for my M50x so I can use that for producing and other things where flatness is more desired, and I can use the XB950's for general listening. They come with a smartphone app to tone down the bass if it's really too much, and I have a 30 day period where I can return it and get my money back if I end up not liking it.
