My friend broke his third razer headset :v: - Don't ask why he bought him, I didn't tell him. Budget: 800-900kr (107-120 euro) Country: Denmark Isolation: Over-ear Purpose: Music / Film - Little gaming Music Tastes: A bit of all, Trance / Dance / House, Rap Previous Experiences: As mentioned earlier - he bought a bit razer and they weren't really good. But anyways, my experience has been Sennheiser and Logitech G930 (THEY'RE NOT BAD WITH EQUALIZER), and I like both parts.
Gonna get the akg550s and a zalman clip mic after hearing what it sounded like on youtube; hopefully my motherboards onboard sound is good enough for it, would hope so for the amount i paid for it! ^^
Well these are easy to drive. They still sound good when unamped.. other headphones need a amp to match them to sound good which i think is a plus for the k550. People used these on things like iphone and they can drive them to sound loud enough and good but these do benefit a bit from an amp. Hopefully they will be loud enough for you i mean i have dt990's and it takes max volume to sound anywhere near close to the loudness of the k550 which takes little volume adjustment and overall volume as low and still sound loud enough. Some people love them, sound think they are amazing, something they sound great or good or fantastic and some quite impressed that these sound open for a closed can, overall i prefer these cans to my other ones and i own a lot. Another one who says he keeps being amazed by them out of his collection of headphones which means this is the only one and me i was spooked by them which made me jump and no other can has done that before. Hope you like them they are a definite step up from your other used cans and yea has a good sound stage for a closed can.
I posted this several weeks ago and never got a reply.
If you're very self-concious earphones might be the way to go, I never felt comfortable with an over/on-ear headphone in public aswell and earphones are easier to put away, for headphones look at the ATH-M50 (bass tilt), Creative Aurvana Live (slight bass tilt), M80/V80 (bass tilt/v-shaped), MDR-V6 (neutral/accurate) and KNS 6400 (neutral/accurate). For earphones, HiFiMAN RE-400, Rock-it sounds R-50, Vsonic Gr07 [editline]26th May 2013[/editline]
My friend broke his third razer headset :v: - Don't ask why he bought him, I didn't tell him. Razer chimaera 5.1 = hooven Also it works on my iPhone/ipad :words:
Is there any point in 7.1 headphones for gaming/movies/music? My current headphones are falling apart and I need to buy new and 7.1 surround sound is tempting, the second issue this brings is that my motherboard can of course not support this with an integrated sound card, so I was wondering if an external 7.1 sound card is a good idea, and if so then are the cheaper ones around 30 bucks good enough, or do I need to spend more dosh for enough quality to get anything of worth out of my new headphones then. So Are 7.1 surround sound headphones good for gaming, movies and casual music? Are cheap 7.1 soundcards good enough? Do I need an integrated sound card, or are externals just fine?

Just get some decent headphones and a sound card that supports dolby headphone. Virtual surround is just as good, if not better, in headphones.
Well alright then, but what sound card do you recommend? Also with headphones I'll have to buy a loose microphone, any recommendations? When I searched around on dolby headphones I still only ended up with headsets, but I remember reading about these being the shit, but I'll still need a 7.1 soundcard.
When I searched around on dolby headphones I still only ended up with headsets
Most Xonar cards will have it, but don't spend too much towards it because any virtual/binaural surround more than a basic HRTF is fatiguing as fuck and you'll likely not want to use it very much.

Thus virtual surround is usually better.

Ordered an Ath-M50s from Amazon for $111. Can't wait to get it and bust it open to insert a 3.5mm jack.
Let me know when you get the k550 and what you think of them. http://www.head-fi.org/t/602869/akg-k550-gaming-and-movies I have these for gaming and I'll have to say that they are awesome if you want to hear everything. They are very transparent and the base is seems maybe a little recessed but the sound stage and directional sound ques from it are amazing. The sound signature is very close to my hifiman he 500's, but are not detailed or open with a smaller soundstage. They are very easy to drive, my droid Razr gets them loud enough, and my ps vita gets them even louder. If you are looking for good neutral headphones than these are the way to go. If you like a lot of bass though I would recommend the ultrasone pro 900. The sound on the ultrasones are a bit more bass orientated. Good luck Out of my headphone collection the k550 is prehaps the best at pinpointing directional ques. Here as well my username is lltfdaniel ranting on about a 3d effect that the k550 produce with the way they sound. http://www.head-fi.org/t/610298/akg-k550-review/300 http://www.head-fi.org/t/599170/akg-k550-review-essentially-a-closed-back-k702-literally From http://www.head-fi.org/t/599170/akg-k550-review-essentially-a-closed-back-k702-literally The soundstage is awesome. 3D, like it should be, and with great positioning. I played MW3 infection and actually got the drop on some infected. I still suck, but the K550's are no slouch in the gaming area. There's plenty of detail throughout the spectrum - you can easily locate footsteps fore, aft, back-left etc. like a champ. Movies are equally awesome, although when cranked the highs seem to overwhelm a little so I keep the volume slightly lower than what I had it with my MK2's. AND, speaking on volume, these can bump 117db in the cup. That's loud. I like that. Some others do too.

I really prefer these over my other cans for gaming. Sharp sounds which these give seriously gets my attention it is more easier for me to locate where sound comes from more quickly without careful listening. Hl2 the way that sounds goes well with positioning, team fortress 2 sounds different and bf3. My other cans are (dt 48, dt 150, dr 770, dt 880, dt 990, k 701, q 701, k240 mk2, k242, hd 555, hd 650, t50rp, ath m 50, hd 25 ii, hfi 580, pro 900, ultrasone proline 2500, he 4).
k0dex is going to be blown away by all this expectation bias
Personally i prefer these. He has to get a good seal and let them burn in. I prefer these any day over my other cans and what to expect well i am satisfied he may or may not be but for me this is what i was looking for in a headphone. Bass is satisfactory for a headphone after knowing quantity quality of the others not to mention the k550 sound different compared to my other cans. Give the k550 a listen sometime if you don't like try the ath 900x.
k0dex is going to be blown away by all this expectation bias
I knew he was biased but i did do a lot of research into them on my own :P Unfortunately i have to run them off a steelseries usb sound card thing because apparently my motherboard sound is screwed, so i will have to get a new sound card sooner or later Music sounds great on them right now, but counterstrike:go sounds pretty bad because there seems to be a complete lack of bass ( literally almost zero) im assuming thats just the sound card im using though ( i know its not a bassheavy pair of headphones )
Glad you agree that they sound great. These cans are more towards neutral bass does vary with tracks. Hope you enjoyed them as i did, how loud are they for you?
Glad you agree that they sound great. These cans are more towards neutral bass does vary with tracks. They get better with burn in imo. Not many headphones of the type sounding great are out there only other one i know is the ath 900x. When you get used to these cans regarding position of sounds you will understand why. Have you tried squeezing them on your head for bass? I like this track with these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I9Ar6upx34 sounds great :P.

Comments: I have no qualms with over ear headphones in public so long as they're reasonably discrete, some AKG's would probably be a bit too much for my taste. Might consider in ear. Previous experiences are only the sennheiser HD 558. Ebay is fine if the seller ships internationally, amazon is fine too. Will probably almost always use them amped. Even considering designing myself an SMD version of the O2 amp that runs on a lithium ion battery. Not expecting stellar performance but most of the design work is done already, just gotta lay out a PCB and pick some compatible SMD components.
Still haven't gotten a reply, third time posting this.
Look at the Brainwavz IEMs.
