Budget: 150$
eBay: Sure
Country: US
Isolation: I need them to be pretty good at keeping sound in
Purpose: mainly music, and some movies
Music Tastes: Progressive rock, metal, classic rock
Previous Experiences: Don't know
Comments: These are for my dad who has been using this really shitty pair of headphones for the past 20 years, the name is worn off on them, the ear pads are all chewed up, and there is no isolation at all. They need to be over the ear headphones. The headphones need to stop sound leak pretty well, my mom is a speech pathologist and believes if she can hear the music coming from your headphones they are too loud.

ATH M-50s
Get Brainwavz HM5s.
Get Brainwavz HM5s.
Those will sound better, but M-50s will be more portable. Also coiled cable.
I think I will get with the Brainwavz, my dad likes to sit in a chair and listen to music. Thank you both.

No problem, your dad will love them.
Referencing my post above, anybody have experience with these?

How is the bass on them? I was just talking to him about what he likes to hear, and he was talking about bass a lot.
Guess my dad is a bit of a bass head.

They're neutral. Bass is there but also is not overwhelming.
My little bro bought a pair of Sennheiser CX200's off ebay and they arrived and I compared them to my CX212's and I'm convinced his 200's are fake. What's the chance of that? They were $17, didn't have packaging, have slightly different rubbers on parts, sound far more tinny, and the model number is in a different font and not centered properly. I am pretty sure they are fake but I can't be totally positive, since it is a lower model (but I figure why would there be a difference in sound quality/plastic for such a small increment) and might just be different. I would say they are a pretty good fake, but still a fake. Likely?
Very likely. Ebay + name brand.
Not to say everything on ebay is fake, but the chances are inherently higher.

Look at the Sennheiser website, compare.

it's hard enough to tell with my real pair though, that's the only reason i can tell the rubber/plastics are off. wouldn't be able to tell by looking at a picture. both my 215's and his iphone 5 earphones sound better so i am definitely going with fake, not much more proof required. you get what you pay for i guess.
Fuck. I'm torn between the ATH-M50 and a Beyerdynamic DT990.

Go for the Brainwavz HM5.

If you suspect they're fake, ask on Ebay for proof that they're real.
If they can't provide, you'll win a chargeback.
Budget: $150
eBay: Yes
Country: Australia
Isolation: Open/Semi preferred
Purpose: Music/Games
Music Tastes: Metal/Rock primarily
Previous Experiences: Shit-tier "gamer" headphones
Comments:
I've been looking around for a set of 'phones for most of this afternoon, but I've been unable to decide. I'd prefer an open or semi-open pair with a decent soundstage for gaming, but with decent sounding music reproduction as well. I've considered a couple Audio Technica's, namely the ATH-50's and the AD700's. From what I've read about them though, the ATH-50's have a lackluster soundstage and the AD700's lack adjustment options.
Any recommendations or insights you guys might have?
Not sure if this fits the format of this thread (posting products and asking for opinions) but what can you guys say about any of these:

I bought these a while ago. Really great quality for $60, and the noise cancelling feature is a neat plus.
However, after close to half a year, the right ear stopped working (wire problem) and the earbud would come apart sometimes (wires would still be attached). I guess I was too rough on them :S
Go for the Brainwavz HM5.
With the few reviews I could find they definitely praise these headphones. There's also only like one video review on Youtube and a small amount (while good) reviews on amazon. I was thinking about getting the ATH-M50's because they are a weathered set that is proven to last a long time and has good sound to boot. It feels like a risk buying those. I also planned to buy
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Velour-Earcushions-MDR7506-Headphones/dp/B0016MF7W2/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header
to go along with the ATH-M50's for the sexy velour pads.
I'm considering the M50's and adding a modmic for game voip...
Hmmmmm

Didn't see that, sorry.
Anyways I looked at the KNS 6400 and it ticks all my boxes, rotatable ear-cups, detachable cable, pleather pads etc. but it says the driver is only 40 mm, does that sacrifice audio quality in a noticeable way or am I obsessing and worrying about pointless figures? In either case I like to know my alternatives, what are some similar headphones to those?

40mm drivers are the standard for most dynamic headphones at the minute, but driver size in no way correlates to audio quality, Sony used large drivers in their XB1000s (70mm) and Sennheiser uses a novel 56mm ring-type driver in their HD800. Arguably the best dynamic headphone ever uses a 50mm driver (Sony MDR-R10) which is a common size for bass-heavy headphones these days. So driver size doesn't mean anything, just like frequency response.

If you didn't already get them, AD700s would be a great choice, AD900s and 840s also great, you can't go wrong.

Anyone heard much about the creative wireless tactic3d omega. Only $150 for me from $199. Just need a decent pair I can use for my consoles and PC.
