Anyone have a DAC they'd sell me?
[editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
USB DAC with a volume knob would be awesome
[editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
just volume control on it, doesn't have to be a knob. Fiio e7, e10, or e11 would be fine
Budget: $100-150
eBay: Sure, but would prefer Amazon
Country: USA
Isolation: Decent. Doesn't have to be great though. See comments for more details.
Purpose: 55% gaming (FPS' although not competitive, RPG's and MOBA's as well), 40% music, 5% movies.
Music Tastes: Classic rock, electronic music (i.e. electro/electro house, house, glitch, melodic dubstep, trance), old school rap (i.e. Gang Starr, Big L, A Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5, etc.).
Previous Experiences: This will be my first serious step into budget-fi. Have used various Sony IEM's up until now.
Comfort: Added my own category, comfort is important. I will often be wearing these for 4+ hour gaming sessions. I'd say comfort is a close second to SQ.
Comments: As far as isolation goes...I live primarily by myself so one would think that an open headphone would be the way to go but, my girlfriend does visit a bit and I often LAN with my friends on our computers (we all sit in a room together and play video games). With that said, isolation doesn't have to be perfect on these. If my girlfriend is watching a movie across the room, I would like to be able to use my headphones and not bother her. A little leakage would probably be fine. And when I'm playing games with friends, a little isolation would be nice but they don't have to be perfectly silent. I do play near them but before this we just used speakers so they're used to some background noise anyways. At the same time, I don't want these things blaring when I'm playing games/listening to music.
Since I will be running these from my laptop, I will also be getting a DAC. I'm more than willing to get an amp with it if you guys think it would be best (I'm sure that it will be). If I could get headphones, a DAC, and an amp (if needed), or a DAC/amp combo for under $150, I'd be absolutely tickled.
I've done quite a bit of searching, and have narrowed it down a bit. The primary headphones that I'm looking at are:
- Takstar Pro 80
- Samson SR850
- Koss ProDJ100
- Jaycar Pro Monitor
- Takstar Hi2050
The Hi2050's aren't be considered as seriously as the other 4 solely because they are open. If the isolation isn't horrible I'd definitely consider them though, I heard they're crazy comfortable. I'd swap velour pads onto the SR850 and I'd change the pads on the ProDJ100's as well. Right now I'm leaning towards the Pro 80 or the SR850. ProDJ100's coming in a close third. What do you guys think? And if you have another headphone that you think would fit my criteria better, please let me know! Thanks guys!

Are there any headphones there are legitimately that huge?
Are there any headphones there are legitimately that huge?
biggest headphones i've heard of are lafayette f-990 (88mm drivers), and stax earspeakers
i genuinely thought about making a sony xb series joke but the new line of xb stuff doesn't look as hilarious
It's come down to the G35 or the G430's, which one do you guys recommend? My G35's broke and I need to replace it. If anyone has any better recommendations then that would be much appreciated as well.
got my aurvana live and they are incredible. Super open, good highs and lows, these will own for gaming and i'm loving them for music!
Is anyone able to tell me which one of these would be best?
Care to elaborate, or give me am recommendation?
Elaboration:
Headsets are 99.99% of the time shit sound quality wise for the price.
Recommendation:

hi dont be rude to people wanting a headset plz
IF you're going to get a headset, get a relatively cheap one or learn to solder, they really aren't that durable.

Sorry. Not trying to be rude, it is just the fact that this thread is mostly people asking about headsets, and getting ignored.

As said, headphones are better than headsets.
Gamecom 780 would be the best out of those, though.
IMO headsets are only really worth it if they're wireless
Ok my budget would be 100$ or less. What is a good headset that has a microphone that can be used for voicework?
Ok my budget would be 100$ or less. What is a good headset that has a microphone that can be used for voicework?
None. For voicework you're going to need an external microphone.
None. For voicework you're going to need an external microphone.
sorry then, any good ones 150 and under for voicework?
what do you mean by "voicework"?
[editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
If this is just for like voice acting for a mod or something, grab a Samson Go Mic and whatever headphones in the OP, maybe HTF-600
if it's more serious than that you should probably ask someone who knows what they're talking about.
Thanks for the advice guys. Is anyone able to recommend me a pair of headphones then? I was looking at the http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/audio-technica-ath-ad700-headphones/?utm_content=3AzR1j0ZswH6TrHTrrVbEwO3UkWU8oT5q0Xh1Q0&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=cpa&utm_source=dgm but I want to be sure I get some quality sound before spending so much.

I've heard good things about AD700.
Hate convincing someone to buy quality headphones but they buy Beats Solo HD off eBay for £95 instead :v:
Sorry for all the posts. I think I'm sold on the Audio Technica A700x I was originally eyeing the a700 but I like closed headphones. Can anyone confirm that this is a good choice? if so, can anyone recommend me a budget sound-card that'll play nice with these?
I'm looking for some new IEMs, my current pair are the Sony MDR EX500's, which I liked. I had a year warranty on them, I replaced them once but that has since run out. I need ones that will last and with good sound isolation, they will be used mostly outside.
Budget: £100 maximum
eBay: Preferably not.
Country: UK (Scotland)
Isolation: IEM
Purpose: Music when commuting/walking.
Music Tastes: Punk, rock - some pop.
Previous Experiences: Sony MDR EX500, which I love. Many pairs of Sennheisers in the past too.
Shit, I think my M50's has suffered too many falls. Is there a way I can troubleshoot the headphones to check for sound irregularities?
My friend was looking into buying a headset, but I notice this thread highly advises against that. Regardless he needs a pair of headphones with a microphone. He can't use a desktop microphone because of his setup (he doesn't actually have a desk or anything to place the microphone on), so he'll probably need a clip on.
Budget: Preferably under 30 USD for the headphones and microphone, but this is a little flexible.
eBay: Used headphones are acceptable, but not preferable.
Country: USA
Isolation: Circumaural
Purpose: Gaming (to use in-game and with skype)
Music Tastes: Battle-march style music (ex. Two Steps from Hell) and VGM.
Previous Experiences: None really.
He's not an audio nut, hence the low budget. The highest priority is that these will be durable, and won't have to be replaced anytime soon.
The OP says I should use foobar2000. What are equivalents for OS X and Linux (I guess there's a reason that people recommend foobar2000)?
got my aurvana live and they are incredible. Super open, good highs and lows, these will own for gaming and i'm loving them for music!
I've used CAL! for about three years; they are excellent but my gripe with them is that they aren't exactly good looking and not very portable; but fuck it.
I'm looking for another pair of headphones which has the same audio quality but are more portable.
I'll maybe go for a pair of in-ear but from previous experiences I can't really stand in-ear ones for a number of reasons.
Can somebody explain to me why I need an external DAC? As far as I can tell from some internet research, people just say the DAC in the computer might suck, so having an external one is better. Is the difference like night and day?
[editline]18th August 2013[/editline]
If I do buy one, how's the Fiio E10?
i don't have a soundcard on my computer. what headphone would be good for me if i don't want to buy one
