oh gosh, i've whittled my choices down to two phones:
JVC HARX900 ($55) and Sony MDR-V6 ($68)
i like the harx900 because it's said: to be really comfortable, has a good soundstage, and thus would be good for games and movies, but they're still great for music
but i like sony's set because it's said: to have even better audio than the harx900, they're not as bulky, and they still have a fine soundstage
i'd use these primarily for listening to prog metal, melodic death and melodic doom, prog rock, post-rock, ambient stuff, electronica and trip-hop
i watch all of my movies and tv shows on my comp, and would appreciate nice audio for movies
i don't game as much anymore, but i've been sporadically playing fallout new vegas, just cause 2, max payne 3, and sins of a solar empire
so i guess my main focus is for music. i'd choose sony for the apparently better sound, but the jvc's are said to be very comfortable while the v6 lacks in that department
a lot of you guys seem to have experience with these headphones so any help would be greatly appreciated
oh, these will be exclusively for home use (and sometimes i have lengthy skype convos with my friends)
I don't remember the HA-RX900 too well, but i've heard that the HA-RX700 are better.
Anyways, from what i recall they're pretty decent for their price. Soundstage was pretty good, they were pretty comfortable and they're built like a tank.
From what i've heard about the MDR-V6, They're pretty good too. They're more analytical, have pads that flake and have bright highs. However, they are built well and there are still sets around from 1970.
If i had to choose, i would choose the HA-RX900 for movies/games and the MDR-V6 for music in general, but don't take my word for it since i have no experience with the MDR-V6.
£42, that's a really specific number, any reason why?
£12 amazon gift card balance, I'm flexibly though, so a bit above or below is fine. Thanks
gonna go for the the mdr-v6 based on the recommendations of many and for the fact i'll be listening more to music than games/movies. within a couple months i'll get the velour pads, too. i'm very excited to start my journey into the array of good headphones. the last pair i had were some shitty $20 logitechs. i'll post a picture of them soon (i'm amazed they still work).
v6s are great just buy them from a reputable seller.
V4? No wonder I wasn't getting any new posts.
I like the new OP.
Great to see this thread is still alive after I started it a while back out of boredom.
Once again, I'd like to vouch for the SuperLux 681B.
Great set of headphones, DT. Noticed at first with my Xonar DX they sounded a bit flat so had to adjust the EQ on them, but I'm yet to get an amp and try FLAC/lossless quality. I'd assume the amp would change things up? I don't want to disregard a set of headphones on first impressions, especially ones that might need burn in time and something better to drive it. I just think the bass needs a little bit more of a kick.
It sounds much clearer on my iPhone 4, which is promising. I can't imagine how it would compare to an E10 though? For films/games, I might be tempted to add more bass though, if I get a Fiio E10, at least for some cinematic feel. Otherwise I might eventually just get some xb500's to use soley for that purpose.
So I've got some AD700s and I'm looking at buying a modmic (2.0). Has anyone tried this combination or used a modmic with open headphones? I've heard they pick up just about everything and I'm worried that sound leakage from the headphones may be an issue with voice chat in game.
I see they're bringing out a 3.0 that isn't omnidirectional and reduces background noise, but I'm not sure I can wait for it.

Opinions on the Sony MDR-XD200's?
Just watched that swtor expansion trailer with these headphones and the bass seemed much better today, more punchy, whether it was just the quality of bass in the trailer itself as I can't see myself burning these in already.

might have to pick up HARX700 again, though I'm tempted to get a non-broken pair of HTF-600s, I miss that lovely sound
got sick of my HTF-600's size adjuster being broken so I just epoxy'd it at my heads size and did some fancy stringing to make it look pretty :D

what the hell was wrong with me
[editline]i[/editline]
as i was bringing my headphones out of my room to show my mom, i accidentally dropped the 3.5mm plug onto the hardwood floor. whoopsie. everything's fine though, guys, don't worry
I've always wondered how ridiculous the sansa clip+ looks with an ATH-M50 plugged into it because of how huge the jack is
Does anybody have those two items so I can find out?
gahhhh finally got m50's back, I've missed having real cans so badly.
AudioTechnica's RMA process is so sketchy. Print a form, fill it out, and mail it to them. You don't tell them it's coming, they don't tell you they received it, they don't tell you when they're shipping it back. But they fixed my problem so I guess I'm happy.
Now Sweetwater just needs to get their dt250 pads back in stock, and I'll be perfectly happy.

If you can solder then you should be fine.
I don't feel like ruining my warranty. I need to find a short (<1ft) 3.5mm male to female extension. The front panel on my computer is fucked up, and I'd rather ruin the extension than the m50's again
wow. these mdr-v6's are sooo much better than my old logitech's.
Thinking about getting these.

I just need some decent replacement headphones for about 30 bucks. Opinions on the headphones themselves compared to the price? If I need to have more information, let me know.
this thread sucks for earbud suggestions :V

Those who uses this, where do you guys put the microphone? Does the plastic break easily?
Not related to mic. I got an sennheiser cx200 and when i plug the earphone in, i get a loud hissing noise. When i plug it on my ipod, no noise. How do you get rid of it

They're good, they hurt my ears but they're relatively big.

Either those or HTF-600's.
just a quick question because I have no clue what the differences between different jack types are.
would this: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Headphone-Compatible-Apple-Extension/dp/B000WKS8QG/ref=pd_sim_e_2 be able to plug into the front panel of my pc, and my m50's? I have no clue what the differences between three and four conductor jacks are, so I'm not sure whether or not I should order one of these
