Does anyone have the Blue Snowball Microphone? I'm wanting to get a microphone that I can record songs with, but also use with gaming and general use. I read that they like to pick up keystrokes, and I have blue (loud clicky) switches in my keyboard.
I have the snowball. I really like it but i only use it for a mic to talk to people in-game. For music you may want to get something a little better.
Thanks for the info. I'll most likely be using a mic for gaming, with music on the side. I'll look more into it.
I've been using a logitech g930 headset for the past two years or so, and it's been ok ya know. The sound quality isn't bad as far as I can tell and being wireless is nice. But the battery life isn't super great and when you turn up the volume things start to get distorted, the bass starts getting peppered with these crackling popping noises and there's this constant hiss in the background. Anyway after trawling this thread and browsing through head-fi for a few days I caved and bought a pair of brainwavz hm5s along with a FiiO e17. I got the e17 so that I could hook up my ps3 through the optical port and have one set of cans for both my console and pc. Anyone with a similar set up? What should I expect? Is it going to be a vast improvement to my g930s? Also is there anyone in the uk with a modmic? It'd be nice to know what the shipping time is like on an international order, or if there is a EU reseller.

Great sound quality. The headphones are comfortable and the DAC/Amp works wonders. It sounds clearer than the DAC on my motherboard. I love the DAC/Amp though because its flexible with many different options(and the E17 is even better with this).
Thanks for the info. Got my HD 598s, loving them so far So long HTF-600s, you have a good run :)
I got my G930 one week ago and it is totally amazing. First wireless headset and now im feeling totally free with it. Music on the toilet. Music when i cook somehting in the kitchen. And Skype everywhere in the house!
So I have the beyerdynamic dt770 80ohms version since it got recommended alot here. I really like the clarity they have, I love this purchase! Really neutral aswell. Now I wonder, the dt770 does not have 7.1 surround sound and is not wireless, which would be a huge benefit for when the oculus rift comes out... might buy a g930 for gaming then in the future, I don't know.

The thing is, a lot of games have a feature called Binaural simulated surround sound. This is an audio mode in which the raw sound of the game is processed using what is called a head-related transfer function, which is just a fancy name for the way sounds distort as they approach the listener's head and enter the ear from different points in space. Basically, any sound anywhere in 3D space has to get to your ear for you to hear it. If a sound is behind you, it has to distort around your head/body and bounce off things to get into your ear. This changes the sound ever so slightly and that is how the brain positions it in space. This means that, if done correctly, all you need is stereo headphones to hear completely convincing directional sound. The reason this doesn't get the kind of press it should is because the majority of people playing videogames have shitty headsets that can't reproduce the sound effectively, so they don't get the effect and they say it doesn't work. TL;DR Look up "virtual barber shop" on Youtube and tell me you can't tell exactly where the sounds are coming from. The only trouble I have with it is front-back distinguishing, but i suspect that's due to me not closing my eyes so my brain thinks it's all behind me because it can't see anything in front of me.

Get software to do virtual 5.1/7.1. 2. Even better, wait for TrueAudio from AMD. People that tried it out said it sounded amazing, and a lot better compared to traditional 5.1/7.1 (in headphones).
Ok that was eye opening, thank you! What setup/software do you guys recommend for gaming to get the best sound without manually fiddling with the eq settings and such. And what do I need to look out for on game options?
So I'm looking to get a new set of headphones and my mate suggested the AKG K44's. I'm just going to be using it for normal music listening and video games but are the K44's worth it?

Also a year later the left channel is gone completely so that is a score of 0/2 from me.

Right ear of my headset recently broke, managed to tape it back together but figured I'd seek some advice from FP about headphones this time around. Budget: Up to $100 eBay: Yes, eBay's fine Country: Canada Isolation: Circumaural prefered, open air would be my second choice Purpose: Mostly gaming and voice chat/Skype/stuff like that, some music Music Tastes: Nothing specific, mix of older soft rock and more recent stuff like Starfucker Previous Experiences: I can't really name any of the brands of headsets (or the one set of headphones I had that I jury rigged an old microphone onto), but they usually last a year or two before the wires coming into the headphones wear out and start to break. I know the OP says "don't even consider a headset", it's more what I'm considering. If you can recommend some good headphones + a desktop/whatever mic for $100 or under together then feel free.
Budget: $50 eBay: No Country: United States Isolation: Circumaural Purpose: Gaming, Voice chatting, Music, TV Shows Music Tastes: Dubstep, Electro, Previous Experiences: Creative Fatal1ty (yes, shitty headset I should have never gotten) broke down on me November, been living on earbuds inside the headphones ever since. Comments: I'm gearing towards deep bass type of headphones that don't completely muddle or destroy the mids and high, as well at least sturdy build quality.
I don't really know much about headphones though but I really like my HD518's.
I'm currently thinking about buying those. The only thing I'm worried about is the open back design though, because I heard people say that while it has a great soundstage, you wont get the same kind of isolation from sounds around you. Would you care to state your opinion on that matter?
The Jaycar Monitors arrived, unfortunately after paying £13.45 to Royal Mail (£8 handling fee). They are great however I can see why people say they have a tight clamp, it does ache after a few hours, I'll try putting them around some books tonight and see what happens.
My FiiO E07K DAC is having this weird problem where at random, the gain will turn up very high and everything turns to a very loud, distorted, white noise. The device still reports the right volume when this happens too so its not something wrong with a button or anything. I'm thinking its windows, but i doubt it since i haven't messed with the audio settings or installed in the past week. [editline]2nd February 2014[/editline] it also scares the shit out of me when it happens. [editline]2nd February 2014[/editline] oh yeah, and my warranty is up in 5 days. guess whos on holiday till a day after that? fiio is...
You should contact the store you bought it from first (if you haven't already)
That's an EU thing and isn't widely used in the US afaik.
That's an EU thing and isn't widely used in the US afaik.
Sometimes it's easier to go directly to the manufacturer anyway, I doubt Scan could of sent me some replacement feet for my keyboard for example...

[editline]2nd February 2014[/editline] Alright, I switched windows back to 44.1khz/16bit. I think what happened was that I was using this setting, and only that one. Is this what I should be using? and which should I use on this
How are the audio technica ATH-M20 headphones (for 25 bucks)?
I just found out Koss still makes their Pro4AA's so I'm all excited I don't have to buy some janky vintage pair that's older than me my question is are there any modern headphones that have that huge old 70's look? (obviously not a hipster)
I'm looking for a new microphone as I have damaged my Snowball mic by accident so it now means the connection is very loose and won't stay connected to the computer. What recommendation are out there? I don't want to pay anything over £100.
-snip nevermind-
I've got a friend who lives in the UK looking to spend about £30 on a replacement headset since his broke, and while I would normally suggest a headphone/modmic combo, there doesn't even seem to be a place in stock to buy a modmic at the moment. Any ideas? or is this actually a price range for a headset?
