Mixamp is good, making my PS4 audio sound much better in terms of quality with my modded fostex, although I do have the volume maxed. Whilst being at a comfortable level, I'd like to know I could go louder..
I think mixamp powers up to 32 ohms or something? Fostex is like 50, maybe I'm best selling my mixamp eventually and picking up the fiio e17 once I have more cash.
For IEMs I'm quite liking my Shure SE-215s, they're fairly cheap at $100 (Got mine for less due to being with a production group), sound great, and look pretty nice in my opinion.
Can anyone recommend some £100-150 IEM's that don't go over your ear? I don't want to look like a pleb but still want nice audio
Would an integrated audio solution in my PC (Realtek ALC892) drive my 2x56 ohm headphones just fine or what will I need to do to make them run at their best. Or does it just not matter at all?
I love my V-MODA Crossfade LP's, is there anything I should know about them? I got them for $50 at a Radioshack liquidation sale two years ago.
You should know that they're supposed to sound as good as they look, and compete with the audio-tehnica m50's. I'm fucking jealous of that price.
Oh and that accesory set. A hardcase and reinforced detachable cables.
Beats don't even look good, though. They're tacky and plastic-y. I'd much prefer to wear a pair of K550s or Grados if I wanted something that looked nice.

My mate has some K550's and they look hilarious.
they look too small for his head
they look too small for his head
it looks like he needs to extend them, it looks like his ear is right at the bottom of the cup.

I'm looking for earbuds, the best one I had was a sony one that came with my sony potato phone and that went through the washer twice so it's no longer working as well. Every other earbuds I do have are really old and/or crap.
if you're just in walmart and want a pair of in ear headphones, JVC marshmallow are generally widely available and okay

I don't want in-ear, I never liked the feeling of them in my ear like that and all of that ear wax it seems to scoop up. And they always seem to slip out of my ear all the time.
I already have headphones (as mentioned earlier in this thread, a senheiser hd418) but I want something I can carry around in my pockets.
Or maybe a headset compatible with the Nexus 5 would be good too. I would like the 3-button control thingy so I dont have to pull out my phone each time I want to change the song like I do now..
do durable iems exist
[editline]12th June 2014[/editline]
headphones are not for looks imo, get some beats for the looks if thats important
beats make you look like a douche, like abercrombie shirts for example

Get something by RHA, mine rarely break and when they do they have a 3 year warranty, replacements get sent first class, the customer support is really good
I've been really unlucky with mine breaking and have effectively had 10-11 free pairs so the £26.99 I put on them 2 years ago has paid for itself

Best sound quality I've heard under £50 too, I don't know why people don't reccomend them more often. Easily the best sub £50 iems
amazon has the sennheiser HD-360 and 429 S on sale, how are those?

They're finally starting to show signs of wear after two years of intense use (leather is very slightly damaged in three places and the foam is exposed in one ear cup, and one of the two cables has had its reinforcement mesh fray), but they still look perfect at anything but a very careful glance and sound like they did the day I bought them.
If they get too tattered in the next year or so I'm probably going to spring for the M-100s because I've had such an amazing experience with these. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
What headphones would you reccomend for <£150? I need something that'll last a good long while without fucking breaking. Also, what desktop mics would you guys suggest?
To be honest desktop mics are a pain if you don't get a really good (and probably expensive) one.
I'd suggest you look into either a modmic or an "inline" boom mic such as this one. They basically give you all the convenience of having a "gaming headset" without compromising on the sound quality you get.
Personally I'm using the vmoda boom mic pro, where the chord goes to my dac/amp and then I use a 3.5mm extension cable to get to my mic port on my pc.
looking at getting AKG Q701 and amp/dac
is this a good combination?
I managed to get a mediocre sound card for free, so that's nice. Going to be buying some JVC HARX700's next paycheck I think. Good choice? My budget took a plummet.

What headsets are good for longevity? I know the OP said not to bother with them, but I'm not too fussed about mic quality since I don't talk that much.
Well as long as your arms aren't super long and you don't spill stuff, a desktop mic would be best for longevity.
No matter how well the headset is build, it won't be safe from you dropping your headset or it finding itself in a glass of soda.
how about some less than $50 earbuds, I listen to some pretty wide range of music, its not bass heavy and I don't need it to be.

Dropping the headset or dunking it in soda isn't my problem. The problem is the wires breaking, becoming loose, and causing only one speaker to work.
Dropping the headset or dunking it in soda isn't my problem. The problem is the wires breaking, becoming loose, and causing only one speaker to work.
all headsets have that problem since they require an additional 2 wires in the cords, which generally means that all the wires will be thinner and more prone to breaking, in addition to there being more possible points of failure because of the added mic
I just got the Logitech 430 7.1 Surround Sound Headset and there really good! I wanted was a USB headset and picked them and found out all these cool features and was impressed!
if you're set on getting a headset, just get the cheapest thing you like, or spend some more and get a modmic and headphones, or maybe a v-moda boom mic and any headphones with a replaceable cord

Right, I'll get one of the mics that LennyPenny mentioned. This brings me back to my first question - what headphones would you reccomend for <£150?
