Mine will be here in about an hour or less (I hope), it's on the UPS truck. I'll let you know what the quality is like.
Followup: The mic works fine. The actual pickup of my voice is high quality, but it also picks up a lot of static and background noise. It doesn't really work that well unless you have the mic right next to your mouth. If you aren't going to use it often, then I don't really see why that's a problem. If anything you could just hold it. I personally used that cable tie method someone posters awhile ago, until I think of a better solution. [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] Interesting enough, when I test the mic through steam I don't hear any of that static. Actually, I don't hear any static at all now. Idk what changed, but I guess after playing with the microphone settings a bit I eliminated the static. So yeah, sounds fine.
It can also depend on the Voip codec the mic's audio goes through, some are better at removing static than others I guess.
Static went away when I listened through windows too though. I think that the Noise Suppression setting under Enhancements removed it, but it didn't do anything right away. When steam activated my mic maybe it started working. Nevertheless, it works just fine in front of my face. Sounds like a mic from any headset now.
I'm looking to buy a nicer audio setup for my computer in the very near future (Next week easy), I was thinking about getting these http://www.amazon.ca/Sony-MDR7506-Professional-Diaphragm-Headphone/dp/B000AJIF4E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403712934&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+headphones+mdr-7506 headphones because I recall someone saying they're super good for their price. The only thing is I also want a microphone, so what sort of microphone do you guys recommend? I've got lots of desk space so space shouldn't be an issue. I can probably spend ~CAD$80 tops on the microphone.

Well guys, here is my Zalman mic solution that works better than a cable tie: Make sure you enable the enhancements in your windows settings/driver settings to remove static and as much background noise as possible, and then buy one of these things: [t]http://i.imgur.com/BTRnfp9.jpg[/t] http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-GT12-2PK-01-12-Inch-2-Pack/dp/B005LFOHNA Gear Ties can be picked up at Walmart, if you don't want to order it. I recommend 12 inch ones. They bend just like the things on headsets, better actually, since they can even be folded. This is my end result (Shitty Nexus 7 Picture): [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/BXTEnk.jpg[/t] When I don't want the mic, I can simply unwrap it and take it off. IDK if these have been posted before, sorry if I'm late.
got the xpt100s and OH MY GOD they're so nice so comfy and everything sounds clean. thanks for bringing these headphones to my attention guys edit: which way do the angled pads go?

Budget: £50 (±£25) eBay: Sure Country: UK (England) Isolation: Circumaural / closed air (prefered) Purpose: Gaming Music Tastes: I wont be using these for music much but trance is my style. Previous Experiences: Plantronics Gamecom 367, Corsair vengeance 2000 (Snapped) Comments: Not much of a sound guy tbh, Just looking for something that can give me good sound quality along with a really clear mic, I dont mind having the mic as a separate unit but i'd prefer it to be on the headset.
Looking to buy a replacement cable for my HD439s, is this a legitimate site? Does anyone have a better place? http://headphonespares.sennheiser.co.uk/

Don't buy a 'head-set', don't even consider it. Buy a desktop microphone for around $20, separately from your headphones. Clip-on microphones work well, they even sell ones that will clip onto headphones. (Desktop mics are still better generally)
I'd probably recommend a pair of Brainwavz HM5. They're quite good closed neutral headphones (with a large soundstage, so they'd work well for games.) They go for about 70 quid on Amazon. Add a mic and you should be good to go.

Add a mic and you should be good to go.
Personally, this doesn't really help me in many ways, 'adding a mic' doesn't mean much to me as that could be anything from a £2 one to a random £30 or something mic. as far as the headphones, they seem a lil overpriced but I'm not much of a sound guy. I should rephrase that I'd like a headset as I've always used them, and if the mic is as terrible as people make them out to be, then could you recommend an actual model to get?

If you were to buy a $100 headset you are probably only going to get the sound of a $50-70 pair of headphones (at very best) + a built in mic. Maybe even worse depending on the brand. That's why people recommend you don't buy a headset. Headsets are a premium price simply because the mic is attached.
Budget: Under 60 USD (155 LTL), preferably around or not above 40-50 USD; eBay: Not an option; Country: Lithuania; Isolation: Circumaural; Purpose: Gaming; Music Tastes: None, not for music; Previous Experiences: None; Comments: I need to buy at least fairly decent headphones for around 50 bucks for gaming, specifically - Counter-Strike for a LAN event. Note that prices may be at least slightly higher in my country compared to the headphones you would buy in the US/UK or wherever. The most common headphones used by gamers I could find in my country online were Steelseries and Sennheisers, but the selection in stores and online is fairly big. Also, sound leaking isn't that big of a deal for me. I've looked at these so far: Sennheiser HD 219 and 202.
Budget: Up to 100 Euro eBay: Available Country: Estonia Isolation: Circumaural Purpose: Music and Gaming Music Tastes: Industrial Electronic Rock Metal (I find it hard to understand what genres really fall in to this, but here are samples: 1 2 3 3 Previous Experiences: My current headset is http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&cat=383&pid=31548&paus=1 . Comments: I want the same isolation as my current ones, but not neceserally with a microphone.
The headphones that I have that I use when I'm either not on my desktop (e.g. laptop) or just listening to music on my phone are the AKG K271 MKIIs. I love them because they have great sound quality and are SUPER comfy. They are, however, rather bulky and difficult to transport, as well as looking a bit ridiculous on my already big head. I got them off of amazon for about $150. My question is, is there any reason to get a similarly priced pair of earbuds over these? Ease of transportation factors aside, I'd imagine the smaller drivers make for worse audio quality, but the proximity to the eardrums makes up for any perceivable difference. I have also never owned a pair of earbuds that didn't either make my ears hurt after twenty minutes or require me to continuously push them back into my ears to keep them in. Is there any reason other than just personal preference to pick one type of headphone over the other?
Annnnd my right ear cup on my Q701s has stopped working entirely. so, time for new headphones, only had these for a year.
Thinking about grabbing the Sennheiser HD558's and selling off the Astro A40's. Decided I've had enough with headsets and just going to grab good quality headphones and use my external mic. Wise decision?

got myself some sennheiser momentum today! replacing the g35s that broke on me. is there any way to get that fake "surround" feature that Logitech had? I used it a LOT in cs:go.
I'm making the switch from a headset to headphones + desktop mic. I've got great headphones, but I'm having a hard time finding a decent mid-range mic. I'm not a podcaster or anything, so I don't need anything professional but I also don't want to waste $10 on something that's going to sound like shit. I also use a mechanical keyboard. Is it inevitable that my desktop mic is going to pick up every key tap?
So I'm replacing my Logitech G35 (Which is surprisingly good for a headset, as most other headset I've tried are absolutely horseshit) with Audio Technica ATH-M50S and I want to get a soundcard while I'm at it and a good clip on mic. Tips? I can get a Asus Xonar DX for 65€ (Swedish prices) and I can use Ebay and Amazon for the microphone if necessary.
Budget: 250 eBay: Prefer not Country: U.S.A. Isolation: Doesn't matter too much but kinda prefer closed Purpose: Gaming, music Looking for something that doesn't have too much bass, i'm not into rap or dubstep. Need something with good clear audio, good soundstage but at the same time isn't horribly lacking on bass. I already got a good Amp and DAC on my Essence STX.
Is this thread serious yet or is everyone still saying "get ATHM50s"?
Budget: 400$ or 300 euro eBay: Rather not Country: Netherlands Isolation: Perfer closed both doesn't really matter, as long as I can sort of listen to music on the airplane without bothering people it's fine Purpose: Mostly gaming/music/movies Music Tastes: I listen to just about everything except metal or dubstep ect. Previous Experiences: sony mdr-xb700, mostly because of the bass Comments: I'm a bass junky but i do really apreciate clear sound I don't really have a budget but under 400 would be preferable, however if there's one that's a bit more but really worth it.... you get the point. [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] p.s. is this any good? http://www.jdslabs.com/products/46/standalone-odac/

KRK 6400 if you're willing to go over budget a bit And the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Circumaural, Pro Studio Headphones - Closed Closed Studio Headphones $99.95 I really like the sennheiser. ATH M30x if that budget cannot move. [editline]8th August 2014[/editline] You won't get a good mic for anywhere near 20. But something casual I'd recommend this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000MYPPPE?cache=cfb5c0129852159374fb530bac4cb815&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&qid=1407556200&sr=8-5#ref=mp_s_a_1_5
I just got Koss ProDJ100s yesterday along with some M50 pads to swap onto them and wow they're fucking awesome. Shits only 43 bucks on amazon too. Anyone else got a pair of these? It's quite straight forward, just a simple mic that plugs in your mic jack, and it sounds very good given the price. Certainly more than good enough for any TS/Comms related stuff. Obviously if you're going to record music on it or something you're gonna need better gear, but I might go as far as saying you can record human speech for videos perfectly fine. The range at which is captures sound is pretty short though, and its quite dependent on direction. You can get fine quality for comms just by clipping it to your headphone cable, but you won't get the best quality unless it's pointed in the direction of your face and fairly close.
